"The good (and excellent): Spectacular location, gorgeous grounds and a lovely, Hawai’ian-style home in good condition. Beds are very comfortable, kitchen is adequate, bathrooms are huge, and there are loads of towels, plates, toys and everything needed for a large group.
We only used the main home. It easily sleeps 6 adults, with many more (kids) on punaes. The master upstairs overlooks the bay through a wall of windows, and enjoys wonderful trades through two sliders. The other twin-bedded room has walls of louvered windows, and shares the large bath with tub.
There is plenty of outdoor furniture that sits surrounded by palm trees on a perfectly manicured lawn that slopes gently to the direct beach access.
The bad (and ugly): We arrived (after roughly 14 hours of travel) hoping for a little slice of paradise. Although Hawaii Beach Homes had (per the calendar) nearly 2 days to clean the home for our arrival, we arrived to “cleaning chaos”, lasting nearly 2 hours. No place to settle, change clothes or relax. On contact with Hawaii Beach Homes, there was no apology, just quotes from their contract. Although they did compensate us for this uncomfortable period, they did so with a stunning lack of Aloha.
This paled to our departure experience. After carefully locking the house, we went to the beach at 7 AM for a walk on the morning of our departure. We returned in 20 knot winds and torrential rain to find that the door code no longer worked and that Hawaii Beach Homes had locked us out of the house at 8 AM (not the advertised 11 AM lockout time).
Can you, for one moment, appreciate how this felt? Cold and wet, barefoot and wearing only a bathing suit. Doors and windows securely locked. No way in. No way to pack. No way to get to our clothing, car keys or to the airport. No phone, no phone number for Hawaii Beach Homes, and no nearby neighbors we could ask for help.
Fortunately, I was able to climb in foliage until I reached a window I believed I could enter, and was able to break into the house. We called to report this, and while the answering service was aghast and incredibly apologetic, the Hawaii Beach Homes agent to whom we were connected was non-apologetic, hostile, confrontational and quarrelsome. It seemed clear that it was our problem for having carefully and conscientiously secured the house before leaving for a beach walk. Stunning.
Bottom line: GREAT place tainted by the involvement of Hawaii Beach Homes staff."
