"We've been to Oahu more times that we can count, but always stayed in a condo in Waikiki except a Kailua rental 3 blocks from the beach once.
THIS was a different Oahu from what we 'knew.' There are no truck noises, sirens, yelling, honking, ...noise pollution of any kind. We woke to the sounds of the ocean and a few birds. We went to sleep to the sound of the ocean. I thought being that close to the ocean, the sound might be overwhelming, but it was not. It was just a calming, soothing pulse.
The rooms are very large in this house! Upstairs is LARGE! 2 bedrooms with their own baths and plenty of room for storing luggage out of the way. Downstairs has one very large bedroom with it's own bath and one fairly large bedroom with a bathroom in the hall. The only downfall we saw to the house was the double bed in the smaller downstairs bedroom. If we stayed here again, we might see if the owners wouldn't mind if we bought a queen bed for that room. :-)
There were plenty of linens for all the beds and bathrooms. Plenty of beach towels, too! The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and utensils and the fridge was brand new!
The living room furniture was not the most comfortable, but we spent most of the time outside. Plenty of masks, snorkels, and aqua shoes were found in the room next to the laundry room. Loved that there was a washer and dryer there. When I go again, I'll pack less. I took clothes for a month, but ended up doing laundry and wearing some of the outfits a couple of times... or just my swimsuits for days on end!
The house is an older home, very comfortable and casual. We felt so at home rather than on 'vacation,' if you know what I mean. It was clean and had new carpeting, too.
We saw turtles every day swimming out front...RIGHT out front!!! Our daughter and son-in-law snorkeled everyday and saw turtles and MANY kinds of fish, crabs, and one night we even saw a small purple octopus! At night, they saw turtles ON THE BEACH a few houses down the beach. We never saw any on shore during the day, but they sure did swim around in the protected area out front! Our niece and her husband and 2 kids aged 2 and 5 played on the beach when they weren't out sight seeing around the island. The beach isn't the widest beach to run and play on, but there is thick, soft sand all day...even if it's only 10 feet or so at times. In November, we had the beach to ourselves EVERY DAY.
We plan on going back...it was THAT good!"
