"Everything was so good and set up well for us. Thank you for thinking of so many extra details. We really appreciate it. We were satisfied a 5 out of 4. 4 because of an ant problem in the kitchen. We cleaned up everyday and they still came! Also, the 2nd bedroom desperately needs an AC unit!! My daughter and her husband were very hot!! Now for the worst problem: the sitting/lounging furniture inside and out is horribly uncomfortable!! When you come home from a long glorious day at the beach there is NOWHERE to get comfortable!! I'm not kidding-the furniture is the MOST awful we have ever sat on!! ALL sitting/lounging furniture gets a 0 (Zero) out of 5!! We would consider renting again for a month every year if you got better furniture. Thank you."Guest: Carrie A. Date of Stay: August 2014 Review Submitted: September 18, 2014View listing
"This was a birthday trip to celebrate my Mother's 94 birthday. There were 4 adults in our group, ranging in age from 50-ish to 94. The Hawaii House was perfect for us! Each had their own room which provided privacy and yet the open floor plan of the house kept everyone involved. The fact that it was all one level, with no steps into the house, plus the walk-in shower in the second bathroom, made it very accessible for someone requiring a walker for ambulation. The backyard was so nice and level without obstruction which made it perfect for maneuvering with a walker. Everything was clean and neat. Nice big bath towels and lots of beach towels. Really appreciated the retractable close-line in the covered lanai for hanging wet suits, and the grill was put to good use. Being from the humid South, I was skeptical about the air conditioning only being in the bedrooms; thought for sure we'd die of the heat in August. But I was made a believer! Just open the sliding glass doors and the windows and the most perfect ocean breeze kept us perfectly comfortable! Even on the hottest of days. I'm a believer now! The view was superb!!!! Nothing can beat waking up to the palm trees and beautiful ocean view, then stepping outside to lounge in a chair with your morning coffee! Emails with the owner were prompt and very helpful. The directions to the house were spot-on, and it was a great location/home base for all our sight-seeing. I read all of the reviews prior to booking this home and want to say that if you require extremely high-end appointed accommodations, this is not the intent of Hawaii House. It IS a cozy, homey, comfortable "cottage by the sea" for those looking for a more laid-back style. The only clarification I would offer is that due to time/weather/ etc. (all things OUT of the owner's control) there is no beach, only rocks. Did not feel comfortable venturing into the ocean form the backyard steps due to this, but there are many wonderful beaches within just a few miles. And even with out a beach, having the ocean in your backyard with all its beauty was wonderful! Would definitely stay here again. Mahalo Gary!"Guest: Allyson Date of Stay: August 2014 Review Submitted: September 5, 2014View listing
"On a "girls'" trip (my first time to Oahu and first time using VRBO), my friend was really focused on beachfront houses - but Dotty & Peter's property ended up being one of our very favorite places of our whole trip! Trust me, *do not skip this beautiful location just because it isn't right on the water*. You are as close to amazing beaches as you'd be anywhere (5 minutes by car), plus the safety and privacy of being just a few minutes (literally) up the hill. The owners are super kind, engaged and on-site; only there if you need them, but so refreshing to know that it wasn't simply a turn-key property; it's well looked after and cared for, as are their guests. This was truly one of our best stays on Oahu, and I'd book it again in a heartbeat. You're up on the hill/mountain side, but I didn't expect such gorgeous ocean views or that we would be just as close to the North Shore's great beaches as we were in other "beachfront" rentals where we had to hop in the car to get to a swimmable beach anyway! We stayed in the Hibiscus Suite which I expected to be small but was in fact very breezy and super-spacious, immaculately clean, with gorgeous terra cotta tile floors, wonderful ceiling fans and a full kitchen, plus two rooms with lovely beds. It was just my friend and I, but it would be wonderful for traveling couples or a family. There's even a washer/dryer! Wow. We didn't use it, but astounding; if I were traveling with a family, that would be a godsend. The screened porch/lanai was huge, beautiful and relaxing; when we arrived, we actually skipped going to more beaches just to stay and read and enjoy the scenery and fresh air. I wasn't initially sure about the location and expected to be far up in the hills away from the ocean, but that's not what this is at all - in 5 minutes, you can be on the most beautiful beaches on the whole island. Dotty and Peter were available if you needed them, friendly, accommodating, and promptly returned our security deposit. Communication was excellent all the way through our rental experience from start to finish (this is my first time renting through VRBO) and I can't wait to bring my husband back to this magical place! Thank you for the beautiful stay and your kindness, Dotty and Peter - I look forward to returning!"Guest: Jen R. Date of Stay: October 2014 Review Submitted: October 7, 2014View listing
