  • Fabulous Home for the Whole Family!

"Ideal Property for our family! Great Location! So Helpful! This was a perfect vacation for our extended family-9 adults, 6 young children including 2 infants. The house was beautiful and clean, clearly well taken care of. The huge living area with the gorgeous view was plenty large enough for lots of fun family time yet there were also plenty of private spaces for the young families-Enough beds for everyone. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook at home to take advantage of the fresh food available locally. Lots of beach supplies – cooler, snorkel gear, body boards. Patricia and her family were so kind and helpful. They did everything possible to make sure we had everything we needed for our large and diverse group. Two beautiful, kid-friendly beaches are just a few minutes walk for the young children and there were great surf spots a short drive away for the older group. Great vacation. We would definitely stay there again."

  • Lovely, absolutely beautiful home!

"When we began planning our 50th wedding anniversary celebration, we knew that we wanted to include our entire family and it HAD TO BE in a beautiful location. The website photos and video of Hawaiian Heaven on an Empty Beach were awesome, but were they true?? When we contacted the owner, Dan promptly responded to our queries and assured us that we would enjoy a 5-star experience. Their lovely home gave us more than we ever expected and exactly what we hoped to have - - a family reunion filled with many wonderful memories! From the very beginning, we had the feeling that we were staying in the home of a friend, not a rental house. We had everything we needed plus bicycles, boogie and skim boards, beach chairs, a Ping-Pong table, a strong Wi-Fi signal, 2 laundry rooms, outdoor shower, and beach towels galore. For a family of ten, it had the perfect combination of indoor/outdoor living - - we could enjoy the living room, kitchen, dining room, and lanai as one large area - - and that's where the relaxing/laughing/teasing/family games were enjoyed. Hawaiian Heaven on an Empty Beach has absolutely beautiful views that everyone tried to capture on their cameras. The upstairs master bedroom lanai was better (if that's even possible) and there always seemed to be someone calling for the rest of us to come up and see the whales, a beautiful ship, or just how far out that crazy stand up paddle boarder was now. Would we do this again? Absolutely!!"

We highly recommend this house!, and will tell all our friends about it."

  • Wow! Make the North Shore in this house your destination!

"What a great house! What a great location! It more than deserves the five star ratings it receives from travelers. The house is roomy, welcoming and well equipped, all which makes it feel just like home right away. The wonderful lanai faces the beach and ocean and offers you your choice of sun or shade, to relax and watch the waves or the whales breaching on the horizon or the surfers do their magic. It is very quiet yet very close to lots to do. The house has a very high walk-ability rating - the beach is literally at your doorstep for a swim in sandy bottomed water or a quiet walk, turtles were on the beach a few minutes away as is the park and marina. In a few more minutes you are in Haliewa - a delightful town with lots of shops, restaurants, food trucks galore and local attractions like the weekend church market, chicken BBQ and of course shave ice. Activities too - you can easily walk to rent snorkel equipment (to the left across the small bridge as you reach Haliewa) or kayaks or paddle boards at very moderate rates. Even better, people trying kayaks or paddle boards can try it all on a very calm canal right by the rental shops (turtles abound in the water!). In the car you are less than 20 minutes from famous surfing beaches - Sunset and the Banzai Pipeline - or the Dole Plantation - and not 30 minutes to Turtle Bay for snorkeling even in the surfing season. If you are keen to see Pearl Harbor (which is an amazing and meaningful experience) it is about 40 minutes by car and then just a bit further to Honolulu. The "North Shore" is somewhere to visit and stay, not just spend a day. We were there two weeks and will stay longer next time. This house is the perfect place to stay!"

North Shore Oahu Travel Tips

Oahu's North Shore has been attracting visitors for years due to its beautiful beaches and panoramic views. The area that makes up the North Shore is between Ka'ena Point and Kahuku Point and is located 28 miles from Waikiki.

The weather in Oahu is warm so be sure to pack your summer clothes no matter what season you're visiting. Since it'll be cool in the evenings, you may want to consider bringing along a sweater or light jacket. The average temperature in Oahu is between 75 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit when the summer air is warmer and drier. Although it cools down between December and March, the trade winds keep the temperatures comfortable throughout the year.

North Shore Attractions

The area is best known for its massive waves and surfers from all over the world flock there to test them out. If you want to find the best surfing spots on the North Shore, be sure to visit Waimea Bay and Sunset Beach. However, the most notable surfing spot is Ehukai Beach, also known as Banzai Pipeline. Annual surfing competitions are held at the North Shore including the Reef Hawaiian Pro, the O'Neill World Cup of Surfing and the Billabong Pipeline Masters. These three competitions make up the Triple Crown of Surfing. Even if you've never been surfing, there are several surf schools on the North Shore that can help you get acquainted with a long board.

If you visit Oahu's North Shore during the summer months, you can expect to see calm waters that are perfect for snorkeling, diving and swimming. The water is crystal clear and the beaches are among the most beautiful in the world, so spending a lot of time here during your trip is a must.

You'll want to check out Waimea Valley where there's a world class botanical garden at Waimea Falls. You can also visit ancient Hawaiian cultural sites and learn more about the islands. Waimea Valley offers a North Shore Eco Tour and the Hawaiian Hiking Company will take you off the beaten path on a privately guided hike through the Hawaiian rainforest. If you want to get a bird's eye view of the North Shore, take skydiving and glider rides at Dillingham Airfield.

Keana Point State Recreation Area features rare native plants and the opportunity to spot sunbathing seals. Although there is no shade or fresh water, the point is still a sight to see as there are picturesque views and the chance to see humpback whales spouting and breaching from November through March. Bringing along a camera to Keana Point State Recreation Area is a must due to the incredible views and wildlife.

Things to Do in North Shore

Haleiwa: Shopping and dining are just some of the many things you can enjoy in the town of Haleiwa. Women's clothing stores include Silver Moon Emporium, Island X Hawaii, Patagonia and Growing Keiki. There are also a number of surf shops including North Shore Boardriders Club, Tropical Rush and Strong Current where you can pick up your gear as you get ready for surfing lessons. If you want to grab a bite to eat in Haleiwa, be sure to stop by Opal Thai. This food truck is one of the best in town and offers a unique dining experience. You'll find what some may argue is the best shrimp on Oahu at Macky's Kahuku Sweet Shrimp Truck. Don't fight off the urge to sink your teeth into a delicious cupcake. Waialua Bakery offers delectable desserts as well as healthy sandwiches.

Mokuleia Beach Park: While in the North Shore, don't forget to check out Mokuleia Beach Park, the filming location for the popular television show "Lost." The park is located on a remote part of the island's northwest point and is 10 miles from the nearest store. This isolated area looks like a deserted island, and is surrounded by turquoise water and powder white sand. Expect to encounter sea turtles and other marine life. You can spend a whole day without seeing another individual at this picture-perfect secret find.

Puu O'Mahuka Heiau: This viewpoint and religious site offers panoramic views from a bluff located high over Waimea Bay. Puu O'Mahuka Heiau is on the National Register of Historic Places and was once the site of human sacrifices. The land of Puu O'Mahuka Heiau covers 2 acres and historians believe it may have been constructed as early as the 1600s. Today, there is a path that leads you to Heiau and the stone walls that outline it.
