Recent Ko Olina reviews

  • Paradise

"This was our first time to Ko Olina. Despite reading the description and reviews here, we did not fully know what to expect. To our very pleasant surprise, Ko Olina and this home in Coconut Plantation surpassed all imaginings of what our month in Hawaii would entail. First of all, let me express that this home is far more elegant and beautifully appointed than the photos show. I'm not sure if the owner is aware, but the photos here do not do the home justice. Everything is just as it should be. Comfortable, lovely, and with every amenity that you could desire. It truly became our home for the month. If you're curious what you should bring with you, all you need is clothing/swimsuit, toiletries and food. Everything else is provided, including towels and pool and beach supplies (a wagon, cooler, chairs, kids toys, snorkel gear). Coconut Plantation is beautiful, clean, and quiet. The grounds are stunning. The pool and hot tubs are immaculate. The fellow owners and guests are polite and friendly. As for Ko Olina, everything is within walking distance. Upon exiting Coconut Plantation, there is a shopping and restaurant area with an ABC store (groceries, trinkets, alcohol). If you arrive late in the evening, as we did, rest assured that you can find some basic groceries at the ABC store. The restaurants are varied - Mexican, sushi, Hawaiian, pizza, ice cream, and Monkeypod with a fresh, varied menu (that we LOVED). Beyond the shopping/restaurant are the hotels and lagoons. Walk straight out of Coconut Plantation, through the stop light, and one more block to lagoon 1A in front of Disney's Aulani hotel. It's a busy lagoon, but there are food/drinks to purchase if you like. Head south to lagoon 1B for a quieter lagoon (and the use of straw umbrellas, if one is open). Head to Paradise Cove (north of lagoon 1A) for a "local" hang-out with sea turtles at your feet. I believe it is approximately $80-100 for a taxi ride from the airport to Ko Olina (each way). If you can get a good deal on a rental car and/or you want to explore the island, get a car. BUT you would be just fine without one, if you so choose. (Costco is 1 exit away.) So the long of it is, this townhome, this neighborhood, this area of Oahu and Hawaii... well, it's stunning and I highly recommend it. It will quickly become your new favorite place to be when you visit Hawaii."

  • never to book through Expedia

"We are from Canada and booked this place for ten days through Expedia and was charged 6000 dollars in total for this stay. Almost doubling the cost of direct booking. What's worse, Expedia does not give us the requisite contact information of this place nor give them our contact information, which made us miss this place after a later flight and caused the child scared and ill. I was so furious and upset about this kind of third party agencies and decide that I will only use their websites to search but never book through them. And many thanks to Manager Blayhe of personal concierge."

  • Great Place, Great Owner, Great Experience!

"We loved staying in this unit. Though you sacrifice a higher-floor view, being on the ground floor was awesome and felt very private. We enjoyed being able to walk straight from our unit to the beach without having to deal with the elevators. Plus, the extra grassy area outside gave us extra space and made it feel like we had a backyard. The owner has been nothing short of wonderful to us. She has been kind, helpful, and responsive. She even hand-wrote us a nice card included with our refunded deposit. A real sweetheart. As a note that DOES NOT reflect this unit or the owner... If you stay at the beach villas, we highly recommend renting from a private owner. We had initially gone with Resort Management Company and then lost our reservation without a substitution, along with a large number of other customers, less than two months before our stay. Just beware who you rent from. We feel very lucky to have found this unit and that we were able to book it on fairly short notice after the disaster caused by Resort Management Company. They no longer do business there, so I hope no one will experience that problem again. However, if you hear that company's name, steer clear."
