  • The Perfect Base Camp over Canada/USA July holidays

"Away from the crowds of Waikiki and with easy access to other parts of the island this condo was the perfect 'base-camp' for all our activities. We are adventure seekers that love to explore & hike. But after a long day out traveling about, it's great to come back and cook our own meals and enjoy a quiet beach with only a few friendly locals for company. Everyday at sunrise from the balcony, we watched a family of turtles swim in the surf. Everyday hours before sunset we stayed in the ocean waiting for the green flash then headed to the pool for a final dip. Snorkeling is best along the left side where the turtles live. Waves pickup a little in the afternoon, but not as bad as some other places on the island. Plenty of snorkeling and beach gear in the condo - but we brought our own. There are a couple of boogie boards, chairs, umbrella, games, table-tennis, tennis rackets, and a ukulele! Kitchen is well stocked and very functional. The unit is smaller than what we are used to, but is perfect for a couple. The balcony is roomy and we had our meals there 50% of the time. Some construction was going on during our stay, so we just took off to relax at the beach downstairs. It also gets a little hot in the later afternoon (5-6:30) with the sun shining in on the condo. We used the AC when we first got there, but we soon acclimatized and only needed to have ocean breeze to keep us cool and content! Ko Olinda is about 20 minutes way (so is Costcos). It's nice to spend a day at the Ko Olinda Lagoons. You can go to the different hotels and get pampered during the day (along with the crowds) and then head back to the Condo for an evening swim. Travel to the Dole Plantation and North Point is also good, since you don't have to worry about driving in Waikiki traffic. Some good golf in the area, too (but we didn't go - as the beach outside the condo was too inviting each day!) FYI - You need a car. Also, if you are handicapped, getting into the water at the beach could be a little challenging, since there is a small steep area to get to the surf line (locals use that area as a toboggan run with their boogie boards!). Didn't go to any restaurants in the area (only at Ko Olinda). The Tamura market 2 miles down the street has everything you need grocery-wise, too. (Farmer's Mkt on Sat) Or simply stock up at Costco's on the way from the airport. All-in-all a great modest little place with great views, an excellent quiet beach, and friendly locals."

  • Wonderful...

"The studio is just perfect. It is spacious, nicely decorated, equipped with all kind of kitchen equipment, and it was spotlessly clean. The property is located right at the water, and it is beautiful (the best thing is the garden bench with view onto the water!). The location is a ~45min drive from Honolulu on the west side of the island, which is not very touristy. There are some fantastic beaches close by (Makaha beach is actually only few meters away), and there are also some great hiking trails, e.g. the Ka'ena Point trail. Carolyn was a wonderful host and gave us some good tips for places to go. We truly enjoyed our stay and we would definitely come back."

  • Peace and quiet

"This condo was exactly what we were looking for, you can not get any closer to the ocean any where on the Island. beach is uncrowded and beautiful, view is perfect, went to Waikiki and was like a city feel, crowded and wall to wall people on beach. my wife and I could not have been happier selecting this condo. Did all the sites, pearl harbor, waimea falls, Waikiki, turtle bay golf and spa, sport fishing out of Hawaii Kai, North shore and much more but really enjoyed coming back to makaha for the total relaxation we were looking for. the staff , house keeper and locals were very friendly and helpful. Fantastic 2 weeks. if I left anything out just read previous reviews as they are spot on. Thanks Gail David and Cathy"
