Priest Lake is in the northernmost part of the Idaho panhandle. The lake itself comes within 15 miles of Canada. When you and your family choose a VRBO vacation rental, you will have all the comforts of home and more. These lakefront homes and cabins offer large living areas, multiple bedrooms and fully equipped kitchens to prepare home-cooked meals. You will find a vacation home to fit into any budget while enjoying comforts you cannot get in a hotel.
Discover the Area Around Priest Lake Houses
Have you longed to discover the pristine beauty of a virgin forest? If the answer is yes, you will need to spend a day away from Priest Lake houses to visit the Roosevelt Grove of Ancient Cedars. This ancient forest is on the west side of Priest Lake where visitors can see trees that are four to 12 feet diameter and 150 feet tall. The majority of the original trees were destroyed in a fire in 1926. While most of the trees are only around 800 years old, there are still some to see that are 2,000 to 3,000 years old. It is well worth a trip from your enticing lake house to see these natural wonders. Pack a picnic from your kitchen and enjoy the picnic area surrounded by these magnificent giants. The area is open summer through fall every day and there is no charge.
If you have come to rent a lake house in the summer, you can splash around in the lake while swimming. You can also rent a boat, canoe or kayak and take a leisurely trip around the lake on a pontoon boat. With more than 70 miles of shoreline, you will never feel crowded and the views from the lake are exquisite. Biking is available along the Lakeshore Trail where you can stop for a picnic lunch along the way. Fishermen can catch big Mackinaw trout to cook on the BBQ grill on private decks. Need more adventure on your vacation? Think about running the rapids on Priest River or rock climbing near the lake. Hunters enjoy fall in the Priest Lake area as it is home to whitetail and mule deer, elk, moose and black bear. After a day in the crisp air, come home to a blazing fire and a hot toddy.
Dining by Priest Lake Lodging
Although you can cook gourmet meals in your Priest Lake lodging, you may wish to take a few days off and Priest Lake will not disappoint your palette. You and your guests can indulge in fine dining at the Chimney Rock Café or Elkins Resort where signature cuisine and Pacific northwest delicacies reign. If you are in a hurry because you are on your way to an attraction in the area, stop by one of the fast food drive-ins or grab a quick hamburger at the Korner Klub or Leonard Paul’s Lakeside Sandwich Shop. In the mood for a little dessert? Then you must partake of Ardy’s Café fresh homemade huckleberry pie. You can also pick up a souvenir of your stay in Priest Lake at Ardy’s as they feature local artists' work and some huckleberry items to take home with you.
Looking for a place to gather and maybe enjoy a game of horseshoes, volleyball, foosball or pool? Millie’s Restaurant and Pub should fit the bill. They offer all this and more. It is located near the Priest Lake Service Center so it is easy to find. Your family can munch on gourmet wings or choose from a host of other international cuisine offerings.
