  • Summer on the Lake

"I picked this location because I wanted lakefront and I wanted to be close to family in Cary Illinois. This property is not brand new. It could best be described as Prairie Home Companion on the inside and Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss on the outside. This rental really does deliver 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths. We had 5 Adults and 2 preschoolers staying nightly and were joined by two more adults and two more preschoolers during the days. The downstairs bedroom was a plus for my 90 year old Father who is still able climb the 4 steps to the front door. We had two computers, two tablets and several phones running on the wireless Internet without any problems. It was fast enough to stream movies for the kids. The house has 4 TVs and Cable but we never turned them on during our stay. Meals were easy to prepare in the kitchen and we also used the outside gas grill and fire pit. We were able to fit everyone around the expanding table. We also used the two outdoor picnic tables. We did day trips to the Brookfield Zoo and to the Shedd Aquarium by car although we could have used Metra which is very close by. We drove twice to the park where Hwy 12 crosses over Fox Lake. There is a good playland there for the kids and also a boat ramp if you need one. The dock is serviceable, but the water is only about 3 feet deep at the end. You need to understand your boat's draft requirements. I brought two kayaks and bought two 10 day lake stickers. The kayaking was good through the week, but the lake can be busy with skiers on Friday through Sunday. Boats can sky within 150 feet of the shore which is within my casting distance from the end of the dock. I spent most evenings on the back porch. It's nice on a cool evening with a breeze. On still nights you might want bug spray. The solid gate was highly effective in keeping four energetic preschoolers from reaching the yard which runs right to the seawall. I brought my own childrens' life vests which I made the kids wear when on the dock. I did see some vests at the property. When you're on the lake you feel like you're on vacation and away from it all. Nevertheless you are very close to all kinds of shopping. If you need something, it is probably available close by. Because of the lake's coastline it can be confusing getting from one point to another. If you are not familiar with the area you might want to have a navigation system in your car. I used the one in my smart phone."

  • Warm and Cozy!

"My husband and I stayed in Maple Cottage for the Thanksgiving week since we were visiting our daughter and grandaughter close by. We were pleasantly suprised at how clean and updated the cottage is. The view of the lake, although frozen, was spectacular and a hotel doesn't hold a candle to all the supplies and amenities that the owners supply. Our grandaughter loved the stash of games and we played time and again while enjoying hot chocolate. Although we did not need to contact the owner, he made sure we knew he was available if needed. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again."

  • Paradise on Pistakee Lake!

"We have been renting homes on the Chain of Lakes for several years now and this has been our best experience so far. When the owners advertises, "All you need is food and clothes to enjoy the amenities that our property has to offer, " she isn't kidding. The house has everything you need, and if it isn't there, you dont't need. This house is a wonderful place to vacation, and we spent a week there, and wished we could have stayed longer. We were blessed with perfect weather and spent alot of time on the water. There was more room that we could ever hope for and the house was in immaculate condition, clean, neat and well organized. The view of the lake at sunset was absolutely stunning, and the front, "Sun room," afforded my guests a comfortable option of watching the nightly sunsets over Pistakee Lake. The huge pier outfront is the nicest, most practical and well kept pier on the Chain of Lakes! If you bring a boat along, make sure you have some extra fenders, as the water levels on the Chain are extremely low this year. A marina with pay ramp and fuel service is just a few minutes south of the property. The property outside has plenty of folding chairs to have the entire family gather around nightly bonfires at the huge firepit. A bags game and horseshoes are also provided. A pool tables is inside for you enjoyment. The outdoor grill needs user supplied charcoal, but all the BBQ tools you may need are provided. The owners will greet you upon your arrival and walk you through the house. They are wonderful people to deal with and they are just minutes away if you need them, (which I doubt!) Almost everyroom has a flat screen Television with DirecTv programing. My entire family and guests were all able to comfortably watch the All Star Baseball game in the main living room. Should you need provisions, the town of Fox Lake is not far away and provides several shopping options. Many dining options either on the lake or in town, provide eat in or take out service if you just don't feel like cooking. All in all, a wonderful relaxing place to get away at. We intend to return again next summer."
