  • Another great visit!

"We just stayed at the Bird's Nest and enjoyed our visit as usual. Steve and Maria are so accommodating and always respond quickly. This is only one of many trips to Galena and its so wonderful to have a "home" away from home. Everything you could possibly need is there for you and the birds are quite entertaining. There is so much space that everyone can be together or enjoy some private time as well. Thanks Steve and Maria for sharing your "nest" with us."

  • Very nice place

"The apartment was very clean and nicely decorated. It's in a great location. An entrance to the Red Line subway is just a few steps away. And so is a grocery store. The view is wonderful and it changed all the time due to weather. The thick windows keep the noise and cold out. I would definitely stay there again."

  • Great get away!

"We rented the Wine Trail Loft for 2 nights while visiting a friend in Anna. The place is wonderful! Brian did a beautiful job with these lofts! Alto Pass is a very quiet little town with a very nice park and a beautiful walking trail nearby. We took a long walk the first morning we were there and saw 2 baby kits (foxes) playing in the bluffs along the trail. The only complaint (and I do mean only) was that we could not get wifi, which was supposed to be open to the unit (We told ourselves we didn't need to spend a lot of time on our gadgets anyway). We found a great steak place very nearby called the Trail's End Lodge and had a wonderful meal our first night. You cook the meat of your choice on heated lava rocks brought right to your table. I would definitely recommend the lofts for a quiet getaway!"

  • Summer on the Lake

"I picked this location because I wanted lakefront and I wanted to be close to family in Cary Illinois. This property is not brand new. It could best be described as Prairie Home Companion on the inside and Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss on the outside. This rental really does deliver 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths. We had 5 Adults and 2 preschoolers staying nightly and were joined by two more adults and two more preschoolers during the days. The downstairs bedroom was a plus for my 90 year old Father who is still able climb the 4 steps to the front door. We had two computers, two tablets and several phones running on the wireless Internet without any problems. It was fast enough to stream movies for the kids. The house has 4 TVs and Cable but we never turned them on during our stay. Meals were easy to prepare in the kitchen and we also used the outside gas grill and fire pit. We were able to fit everyone around the expanding table. We also used the two outdoor picnic tables. We did day trips to the Brookfield Zoo and to the Shedd Aquarium by car although we could have used Metra which is very close by. We drove twice to the park where Hwy 12 crosses over Fox Lake. There is a good playland there for the kids and also a boat ramp if you need one. The dock is serviceable, but the water is only about 3 feet deep at the end. You need to understand your boat's draft requirements. I brought two kayaks and bought two 10 day lake stickers. The kayaking was good through the week, but the lake can be busy with skiers on Friday through Sunday. Boats can sky within 150 feet of the shore which is within my casting distance from the end of the dock. I spent most evenings on the back porch. It's nice on a cool evening with a breeze. On still nights you might want bug spray. The solid gate was highly effective in keeping four energetic preschoolers from reaching the yard which runs right to the seawall. I brought my own childrens' life vests which I made the kids wear when on the dock. I did see some vests at the property. When you're on the lake you feel like you're on vacation and away from it all. Nevertheless you are very close to all kinds of shopping. If you need something, it is probably available close by. Because of the lake's coastline it can be confusing getting from one point to another. If you are not familiar with the area you might want to have a navigation system in your car. I used the one in my smart phone."
