  • Girls weekend

"Perfect place to get away from all the stress of daily living. Our weekend included evenings around the fireplace with lot's of accompanying nature sounds, a hike around the beautiful premises, trip to Luthy's Botanical Gardens, Mackinaw Valley Vineyards and Washington Square. Everything you would need is supplied for a very pleasant stay."

  • Fun City Vacation

"We had a wonderful time on Jarvis Ave. The condo is exactly as advertised online. The decorating is beautiful, and it is comfortably appointed. Our family of six had plenty of room to stretch out, and the inflatable bed we found in the closet was a welcome surprise. We traveled 800 miles, and we were unsure of the exact time of arrival. Ross the caretaker was accommodating, and he was helpful regarding instructions about the area (including restaurant tips). We strongly suggest using the garage if you have a car. Parking on the street is difficult due to the large number of cars in the area. Also, having the garage available when returning to the condo late in the evening was reassuring. Our 2013 Toyota Highlander fit snugly in the garage, but anything bigger would be a problem. We noticed that some of the VRBO reviews suggest the neighborhood is unsafe. It certainly is a city neighborhood, but we did not feel unsafe. However, we had a car, and we did not need to walk about the neighborhood to find public transportation. As in any city neighborhood, use common sense and be careful. If you are going to be exploring Chicago from this great home-base, bring or rent a car."

  • Wonderful apartment, warm and welcoming!

"Our stay at Residence on the Avenue was a treat. We were in town for a family reunion and wanted a place that wasn't the usual hotel room. Ross, the property manager was very warm and welcoming. He provided excellent communication and met us exactly when we arranged to meet. All of our questions were answered and he provided a through overview of the property, including parking. The property provided a very nice binder full of local information (transportation, restaurants, grocery stores, etc.) and maps to these places. The residence was clean and provided basic necessities for our stay. Should we find ourselves in Chicago again, we will definitely make another reservation!"

  • Great Large family getaway

"I booked this place for an extended family getaway for a long weekend. Age 70 to just 1 year (brought a pack and play for the baby). Everyone found something to do. Fishing, hiking, biking, swimming, game room, horseback riding, kayak, by the way all of this was done right in the community the house is at. Plus of course heading into downtown Galena for shopping...only a 15 to 20 minute drive. If you plan on coming I would recommend making reservations at the stable for riding and the kayaks as soon as you get there. They can book up fast especially on Sat/Sun. I would only bring bikes if those who are riding are old enough to be comfortable on the road (no sidewalks) and can handle HILLS! Although there is a nice paved trail up the way it is extremely hilly, we are talking going down at 25 mph and having to walk the bike partway up the hills. That being said there were several of us adults and some pre-teen and teenagers who rode the bikes to the pool. Totally doable, only about 1.5 mi ride to the pool and game room, (bring a bike lock), but again extremely hilly and you are sharing the road with cars. Now to the house, just as it is pictured! The only thing missing out the pictures is the hill that makes up the driveway! Mavis was extremely helpful with questions prior to booking and never had a problem there. The kitchen has plenty of pots/pans, even a Keurig. No need to bring much. I just brought my favorite chopping knife. There is a Piggly Wiggly grocery store about 5 minutes past downtown Galena. We actually only ate out for a few lunches, we had all our dinners in the house...utilized the grill often. (Grill is not perfect, the shelf is WOBBLY, but will do.) I would totally recommend this place to a large family. Lots of fun in the area."
