"Kitchen was well set up. Really enjoyed the fire pit and s'more box. Screened porch was great. We enjoyed our time there."

  • Wonderful clean and cozy cottage in a great location!

"I hesitate to write this review as I don't want it to be all booked up when I need it next year. However, it truly was the ideal place for our family. House is better than the photos depict. It was spotlessly clean and the owners sent detailed instructions on access. These owners are truly detail oriented and have thought of everything to give their guests a very comfortable stay. There is a notebook with the house rules and suggestions of things within walking distance. The owners are right next door, but we never saw them. They were very communicative and available, but respectful of privacy. Our security deposit was returned within 3 days of our check-out! We spent the first evening in Oak Park and walked to a local restaurant in the center of town. Oak Park is such a charming, clean and safe community. The next two days we were in Chicago. We opted to drive into the city since we were visting the Museum of Science and Industry and the Lincoln Park Zoo. I recommend both! Chicago has so much to offer! We didn't need to drive as there is a two car garage at the rear of the property, and we could have just walked to the blue line. However we found good parking options in the city and wanted to explore different areas that were not close to the El. The kitchen is wonderfully efficient and has everything you would need to cook any meal. We cooked breakfast and ate our other meals out since we were on the go. There is a large flat screen TV with direct TV and all of the channels you could want. They also provide a nice DVD library. We didn't watch any movies as we were too tired at night, but it was great that they were there. The beds were very comfortable. The towels and sheets were high quality and the shower water pressure was great! The only thing I would note is that the a/c worked really well on the 1st floor, but it was always about 8-10 degrees warmer upstairs (old house). That probably would not be a problem for most stays, but it was unusually hot and humid on our weekend so the ceiling fans helped to keep it comfortable. This is now our favorite place to stay in Oak Park/Chicago."

  • Perfect Family Getaway

"Loved the cabin. It was beautiful inside and out. The cabin was clean and well maintained. We were a little concerned when we realized that there was no tv but they had a ton of board games to help occupy the time. It was a relaxing beautiful weekend. Would absolutely love to stay again sometime. Highly recommended!!"

  • Family Trip

"We took our first whole family trip with 13 people!! The castle was a great location for our families with it being just about an hour out of Springfield, IL. We enjoyed fishing, hiking, swimming and sitting by the camp fire together. It gave us a place to go and just be together as a family. We didn't have to worry about keeping everyone entered as there was something for everyone to do. The kids liked the secrecy of the hidden room and the adults like the secrecy of the third floor. The overall feel of the castle was nice. The massage chair, big bathtub and sauna were a favorite of many family members. I really enjoyed cooking in the kitchen! I would recommend the castle if your family REALLY wants to get away from it all. No hussle and bussle any where near the castle. Just time to relax and be with family."
