  • Wonderful clean and cozy cottage in a great location!

"I hesitate to write this review as I don't want it to be all booked up when I need it next year. However, it truly was the ideal place for our family. House is better than the photos depict. It was spotlessly clean and the owners sent detailed instructions on access. These owners are truly detail oriented and have thought of everything to give their guests a very comfortable stay. There is a notebook with the house rules and suggestions of things within walking distance. The owners are right next door, but we never saw them. They were very communicative and available, but respectful of privacy. Our security deposit was returned within 3 days of our check-out! We spent the first evening in Oak Park and walked to a local restaurant in the center of town. Oak Park is such a charming, clean and safe community. The next two days we were in Chicago. We opted to drive into the city since we were visting the Museum of Science and Industry and the Lincoln Park Zoo. I recommend both! Chicago has so much to offer! We didn't need to drive as there is a two car garage at the rear of the property, and we could have just walked to the blue line. However we found good parking options in the city and wanted to explore different areas that were not close to the El. The kitchen is wonderfully efficient and has everything you would need to cook any meal. We cooked breakfast and ate our other meals out since we were on the go. There is a large flat screen TV with direct TV and all of the channels you could want. They also provide a nice DVD library. We didn't watch any movies as we were too tired at night, but it was great that they were there. The beds were very comfortable. The towels and sheets were high quality and the shower water pressure was great! The only thing I would note is that the a/c worked really well on the 1st floor, but it was always about 8-10 degrees warmer upstairs (old house). That probably would not be a problem for most stays, but it was unusually hot and humid on our weekend so the ceiling fans helped to keep it comfortable. This is now our favorite place to stay in Oak Park/Chicago."

  • Best of All Worls

"I recently stayed at this adorable cottage on its gorgeous park like grounds. At the farm, we felt like we were a million miles from any kind of stress yet we were able to bike into downtown Dixon. This remarkable little downtown is situated right on the Rock river. Crossing the bridge from the downtown affords one of the most beautiful in town views that I have ever seen. We enjoyed the riverfront immensely. We were also able to bike right from the farm along an absolutely beautiful rail trail to Lowell Park, which again blew me away. We discovered that there were three other state parks within a 30 mile radius of Dixon. It was a surprise to my husband that Northern Illinois is hilly and forested. We were able to go out in a boat on the river and witnessed more beauty from the water. This was a great place for my husband and I, but I believe that it would be especially nice for a young family with small children. There is so much to explore just on the grounds."

  • Just Perfect!

"A group of 5 couples went to the wine trails for a weekend getaway and couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to stay. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. It is only a mile away from Wal-Mart but still feels like you're in a private setting in the country. Unfortunately, it was too hot for us to fully enjoy the large deck, but we will definitely be going back and possibly bringing more people because we had so much extra space! I would highly recommend the Chalet!"
