  • Summer on the Lake

"I picked this location because I wanted lakefront and I wanted to be close to family in Cary Illinois. This property is not brand new. It could best be described as Prairie Home Companion on the inside and Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss on the outside. This rental really does deliver 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths. We had 5 Adults and 2 preschoolers staying nightly and were joined by two more adults and two more preschoolers during the days. The downstairs bedroom was a plus for my 90 year old Father who is still able climb the 4 steps to the front door. We had two computers, two tablets and several phones running on the wireless Internet without any problems. It was fast enough to stream movies for the kids. The house has 4 TVs and Cable but we never turned them on during our stay. Meals were easy to prepare in the kitchen and we also used the outside gas grill and fire pit. We were able to fit everyone around the expanding table. We also used the two outdoor picnic tables. We did day trips to the Brookfield Zoo and to the Shedd Aquarium by car although we could have used Metra which is very close by. We drove twice to the park where Hwy 12 crosses over Fox Lake. There is a good playland there for the kids and also a boat ramp if you need one. The dock is serviceable, but the water is only about 3 feet deep at the end. You need to understand your boat's draft requirements. I brought two kayaks and bought two 10 day lake stickers. The kayaking was good through the week, but the lake can be busy with skiers on Friday through Sunday. Boats can sky within 150 feet of the shore which is within my casting distance from the end of the dock. I spent most evenings on the back porch. It's nice on a cool evening with a breeze. On still nights you might want bug spray. The solid gate was highly effective in keeping four energetic preschoolers from reaching the yard which runs right to the seawall. I brought my own childrens' life vests which I made the kids wear when on the dock. I did see some vests at the property. When you're on the lake you feel like you're on vacation and away from it all. Nevertheless you are very close to all kinds of shopping. If you need something, it is probably available close by. Because of the lake's coastline it can be confusing getting from one point to another. If you are not familiar with the area you might want to have a navigation system in your car. I used the one in my smart phone."

  • Adorable apartment in an amazing location!

"We booked this adorable apartment for our four day trip to Chicago This was our first visit to Chicago and I could not have picked a nicer place or better location. We took the train in from the airport and walked to the apartment. Despite the fact that it was very cold, we walked a lot and utilized the subway and buses to get around. The neighborhood was always busy and we always felt safe. If we ever return to Chicago, I guarantee we will book one of the three apartments in this historic brownstone."

  • Wonderful, spacious gathering place.

"We often have a short time frame to visit with family members who have traveled to the Midwest. We gather at this wonderfully spacious comfortable home instead of driving to various locals. Cooking all our meals together in the well-equipped kitchen is a fun activity rather than a chore. We entered a sparkling clean (even smells clean) home. (Thank you Sue for your hard work.) We all had a comfortable bedroom and bath. Living room and dining room areas allow us plenty of space to play games, eat and converse. We start planning for our "next time" before we go our separate ways!"

  • City Living in spacious condo

"Unique accommodations in Wicker Park area. Condo has ample space to call home. On Ashland at Augusta, a main route. 5 minute walk to train station. Three stops later you are downtown. Recommend buying the $10 all day pass if traveling through multiple stops on the train or coupled with bus service. Train to and from O'Hare. Jewel-Osco supermarket just a four minute drive. Great to get groceries, very good deli selection. Then the full kitchen in the condo is put to use. Bring leftovers back from the many, many eateries in the area. Large flat screen in the living room with all access cable or dish. Comfy couch and plenty of room for visiting. The owner has a table in the storage hall if having a large gathering for a meal...just like the Thanksgiving my family shared. Sleep well on comfy beds. You'll here the Fire Department making runs during the day, but the bedrooms are in the back, away from the street. The only challenge is the steps. A lot of steps to go up. Not bad or bothersome, but my elderly aunt and guest struggled with them. For the rest of us it was good exercise. I would say that it is not stroller friendly, but we are middle aged adults with teenagers and young adults so it was not an issue for us. Sleeps six easily and can handle more. Great for a large group gathering."
