  • Summer on the Lake

"I picked this location because I wanted lakefront and I wanted to be close to family in Cary Illinois. This property is not brand new. It could best be described as Prairie Home Companion on the inside and Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss on the outside. This rental really does deliver 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths. We had 5 Adults and 2 preschoolers staying nightly and were joined by two more adults and two more preschoolers during the days. The downstairs bedroom was a plus for my 90 year old Father who is still able climb the 4 steps to the front door. We had two computers, two tablets and several phones running on the wireless Internet without any problems. It was fast enough to stream movies for the kids. The house has 4 TVs and Cable but we never turned them on during our stay. Meals were easy to prepare in the kitchen and we also used the outside gas grill and fire pit. We were able to fit everyone around the expanding table. We also used the two outdoor picnic tables. We did day trips to the Brookfield Zoo and to the Shedd Aquarium by car although we could have used Metra which is very close by. We drove twice to the park where Hwy 12 crosses over Fox Lake. There is a good playland there for the kids and also a boat ramp if you need one. The dock is serviceable, but the water is only about 3 feet deep at the end. You need to understand your boat's draft requirements. I brought two kayaks and bought two 10 day lake stickers. The kayaking was good through the week, but the lake can be busy with skiers on Friday through Sunday. Boats can sky within 150 feet of the shore which is within my casting distance from the end of the dock. I spent most evenings on the back porch. It's nice on a cool evening with a breeze. On still nights you might want bug spray. The solid gate was highly effective in keeping four energetic preschoolers from reaching the yard which runs right to the seawall. I brought my own childrens' life vests which I made the kids wear when on the dock. I did see some vests at the property. When you're on the lake you feel like you're on vacation and away from it all. Nevertheless you are very close to all kinds of shopping. If you need something, it is probably available close by. Because of the lake's coastline it can be confusing getting from one point to another. If you are not familiar with the area you might want to have a navigation system in your car. I used the one in my smart phone."

  • Great for reunion

"This penthouse served as the headquarters for three couples during our reunion of long time friends. Centrally located for the restaurants we visited (Eataly, Carnivale) and we were able to walk to Water Tower place, and all the stores along Mich. Ave. for Christmas shoppping. The weather cooperated well too considering this was mid-December -- temps in the 40's (above!!). We also took advantage of the recommended chef (Sue) and her server (Carrie) on Saturday evening for a dinner party that lasted well into the evening. You might give that a try if you prefer a dinner where you can talk and talk without interruption. Jeri-Lou and Jim are great hosts. Don't be put off by all the rules you will receive prior to arrival, obviously they had some bad renters at one time. The location, the views and the facilities are a great reward. None of us had a car and that worked very well. Everett and the other door men were very hospitalable and helpful. We hope you enjoy yourselves as we did."

  • Wow factor

"We very much enjoyed our stay. The reaction of my son seeing the view was a highlight of the whole trip :) Everything was well stocked and in working order. We would definitely recommend it and would stay there again."

  • Great villa - our basecamp for Galena fun!

"I don't have to sell people on Galena - it's a beautiful area with lots to see and do, but this is a perfect townhome from which to enjoy it all. The resort is lovely, and this property is perfected sited within it ... away from the noise, but perfectly accessible to the clubhouse, etc. We used the townhome for a family getaway but I'm planning to bring my girlfriends for a girls' weekend - it's big enough to fit us all (2 bathrooms, fireplace, and the pretty loft are the clincher)!"
