Idyllic and Well-Maintained Getaway Close to Quiet Beaches and to Chicago
"This peaceful property in Beverly Shores made for a fantastic getaway for my wife and two 4 year old boys. The house itself is situated on a quiet, well-manicured lot, surrounded by trees and thoughtful landscaping. The front garden has a multi-level pond/stream, complete with resident frogs and accent lighting for the evening. The back yard is less landscaped, but includes large pine trees and a huge wraparound deck. While you can hear the passing trains along the lakeshore, the environment is peaceful.
Outside, you'll also find a gas grill that's like new as well as a hammock, situated among a grove of red pines. The wraparound deck is HUGE and there is plenty of furniture for guests to lounge and an outdoor sectional, ideal for an afternoon nap. There is also a very large hot tub near the gas grill that's clean, easy to operate and in great shape. Finally, there is a huge firepit, surrounded by new wooden Adirondack chairs.
The house, itself, is in immaculate condition. Built in 1948, the owners have updated the house throughout while maintaining the integrity of the structure. The A/C is virtually silent and the bathrooms are fully updated, despite the age of the property. All the beds are in great shape with firm mattresses and clean sheets. The kitchen is a bit small, but the appliances are all new and high-end. There is an expansive dining area with huge picture windows and a field-stone gas fireplace. There are more than enough beds and bathrooms to accommodate a fairly large group. Wifi and Dish network are also included (so the kids won't drive you crazy).
The property is located less than a mile from the Indiana Dunes, featuring sparsely populated beaches. You're also not far from Michigan City, so shopping is very convenient. Great options for delivery (I recommend Gelsosomo's Pizza) and for take out. There are several decent dining options nearby as well. If you need more than that, you're only an hour or so from Chicago so you can enjoy the tranquility of the Dunes shoreline as well as the nation's third largest city.
All in all, I can't think of anything negative to say about our stay. The owners clearly take great pride in the property and that shows in every detail. I strongly recommend this property to anyone seeking a spacious and modern rental, with NO unpleasant surprises and proximity to civilization while also offering a tranquil getaway."

"Every year we look forward to renting The Sandcastle. An easy ride from the Southwest suburbs of Chicago, this is an ideal and convenient getaway from the hustle and bustle of the big city. The house itself is very clean and has plenty of room with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms along with a large kitchen, dining room and living room area. The backyard and deck are spacious and you can cook and grill out if you want. The surrounding area has many restaurants and points of interests nearby. We enjoyed Washington Park Zoo, the Marina and the Lighthouse. The park also has many concerts throughout the summer as well. It is only steps away to the beach that is very clean. From the beach, if you look to the west at sunset you can see downtown Chicago. So many activities to enjoy such as the brewery and wine tasting locations and the Blue Chip Casino. In the fall there are several festivals. We really love the place and every time we go we find new things to do!"

"A few moms and our kids (teenagers) went up for just two nights. Just fantastic. I don't give it 5 stars because it was super high end or anything. But...I give it 5 stars for the price, location and how well it was represented and so easy to deal with Jill, the owner. We were in the upstairs unit - and the kids were able to stay in the bunk room and the moms stayed in the other two bedrooms. Just perfect for what we needed. I will definitely try to stay here again! Everyone was super friendly and helpful and we had a great time. Thank you!"

"Just stayed there last week of July 2014. I was nervous taking 24 people to one house and coach house but the combination of the two accommodated our family reunion perfectly. Everyone had a comfortable place to sleep and all of the rooms were fairly equal in size and surprisingly private with the way the second floor is laid out. Bathrooms were large enough that sharing one with two couples didn't feel cramped. Enough plates/cups/silverware/cooking utensils for everyone and all good quality. Two double toasters, two coffee makers in main house. But the best part about this property, in my opinion, is the huge grassy park right out front. We played soccer in the park, bags, ladder toss, and enjoyed apps and wine on the picnic table there. You can also sit on the house's screen porch and comfortably watch the little kids in the park. There are only a few properties next to the park so it felt like our huge private yard. We had kids ages 3-15. The beach is of course amazing, and it's a few minutes to walk there but little kids were fine. We'll book the house again the next time the reunion is in the Midwest."
