The lake was formed during America’s last glacial era and originally inhabited by Native Americans. The lake has an average depth of 22 feet, and the surrounding hills reach an elevation of around 1,000 feet.

At Engine House No. 3, there is a museum dedicated to commemorating the history of the area’s firefighters. Children will enjoy the Jack D. Diehm Wildlife Museum of Natural History, where the exhibits are set into realistic surroundings. Fort Wayne has a lively nightlife, including theaters and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.
