"It's rare to find cottages in the midwest right on the beach. These cottages are totally equipped and they are nice and clean. Along the beach, you can walk and walk and walk (barefoot if you like)and then walk some more. There's a beautiful view and a gorgeous sunset almost every night. Small and large towns nearby for shopping and lots of nice restaurants. There's a really nice European Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings. Lots of hiking trails too - The State Park is closeby and has a lot to offer. You do have to walk down many stairs from the parking lot to the cottages - remember to pack light which is actually a plus. You mainly need your swimsuit/towel, sunscreen and a toothbrush! The owners are very nice and most helpful. The most relaxing vacation ever!"

"My 3 daughters, my mom and I spent a wonderful week at Sandy Nook! We were delighted and surprised at how perfect this lovely pink cottage was! From morning coffee on the deck with views of the lake, to lazy days on the beach, to barbecues, gorgeous sunsets, and family game night in the evenings---it was everything we had hoped for! All this and the sound of the waves as you fall asleep....just delightful! We can't wait to go back again!"

"We just returned from a weekend staying at this lovely rental. This beach property is right on the beach and photos here do not do it justice. This rental is part of a cluster of rentals (studio, 1 bdm, 2 bdm, 3 bdm, and 4 bdm (which is up on a higher dune)). One of the nights we had a beach camp fire with other rentals of their properties, had great conversations with new friends, and made s'mores for the kids. Also, the sunsets were beautiful.
First, the beach. You are right on the beach. You walk down a few steps to the beach - which is private. The beach area in front of house and the surrounding houses is private for the community. It wasn't that crowded and the sand is clean.
Second, property amenities. The owners to have 2 kayaks you can use, as well as some chairs and umbrellas. I would bring my own beach chairs and umbrellas - which we did. If you have kids, they do have sand toys to use, but you share with their other rentals.
Third, the rental. The rental we stayed in is very bright, clean and airy. There is A/C in case you are there when it is very warm and humid. It sleeps five. They had all the utensils needed to cook. Besides bringing your bathing suits and food for cooking (and paper towel), you are set for the beach life. We woke up in the morning and had coffee on our private sand dune overlooking lake michigan. Since we are early risers the beach was empty except for those getting their morning walks. Because we made some great friends with the other rentals we were able to see the other rentals. Be advised that the rentals are two houses that were divided into rental units. All have their own private entrances and private decks/sitting areas attached to their rental. But unless you want to be friendly you really wouldn't know there were other people on this property. The beach is big and private enough that you don't have to share space.
The Dunes. Yes you park up on top of the dunes and do have approx 50 stairs to walk down. The reason for this is that the house is on the beach and there is no way to get to the house except to come down the dune. As much as I dreaded this trip back up, I packed so that I used many handled bags to carry food and such to make is easier to come down in one trip. You are able to walk down to the Indiana Dunes State Park (5 minute walk) and have access to their trails and dunes.
We plan on booking a fall weekend at this place for a quick weekend getaway."
