  • Idyllic and Well-Maintained Getaway Close to Quiet Beaches and to Chicago

"This peaceful property in Beverly Shores made for a fantastic getaway for my wife and two 4 year old boys. The house itself is situated on a quiet, well-manicured lot, surrounded by trees and thoughtful landscaping. The front garden has a multi-level pond/stream, complete with resident frogs and accent lighting for the evening. The back yard is less landscaped, but includes large pine trees and a huge wraparound deck. While you can hear the passing trains along the lakeshore, the environment is peaceful. Outside, you'll also find a gas grill that's like new as well as a hammock, situated among a grove of red pines. The wraparound deck is HUGE and there is plenty of furniture for guests to lounge and an outdoor sectional, ideal for an afternoon nap. There is also a very large hot tub near the gas grill that's clean, easy to operate and in great shape. Finally, there is a huge firepit, surrounded by new wooden Adirondack chairs. The house, itself, is in immaculate condition. Built in 1948, the owners have updated the house throughout while maintaining the integrity of the structure. The A/C is virtually silent and the bathrooms are fully updated, despite the age of the property. All the beds are in great shape with firm mattresses and clean sheets. The kitchen is a bit small, but the appliances are all new and high-end. There is an expansive dining area with huge picture windows and a field-stone gas fireplace. There are more than enough beds and bathrooms to accommodate a fairly large group. Wifi and Dish network are also included (so the kids won't drive you crazy). The property is located less than a mile from the Indiana Dunes, featuring sparsely populated beaches. You're also not far from Michigan City, so shopping is very convenient. Great options for delivery (I recommend Gelsosomo's Pizza) and for take out. There are several decent dining options nearby as well. If you need more than that, you're only an hour or so from Chicago so you can enjoy the tranquility of the Dunes shoreline as well as the nation's third largest city. All in all, I can't think of anything negative to say about our stay. The owners clearly take great pride in the property and that shows in every detail. I strongly recommend this property to anyone seeking a spacious and modern rental, with NO unpleasant surprises and proximity to civilization while also offering a tranquil getaway."

  • Terrific Place for a family reunion

"Elk Ridge Ranch farmhouse & barnhouse in August 2014 was the 6th rental place we’ve used for our annual, week-long family reunion of 25-30 people. It is by far the best we’ve rented. Everyone LOVED the big barnhouse’s giant, eat-in commercial kitchen (after all the years we’ve been cooking for so many people cramped in a standard kitchen not much bigger than the one you have at home). The kitchen had 2 big refrigerator/freezers plus a third commercial “frig” with big drawers. The stove top was big (6 burners I think) with a large griddle (maybe 2’x3’) that was perfect for our pancake breakfasts. There was a big commercial oven, 3 laundry-tub-size sinks, tons of dishes and every utensil imaginable. Even a blender we used for smoothies. The kitchen table seated 10 which was about perfect for our trickle of people as they woke up for breakfast. We also used the outdoor gas grills. The only cooking problem we ran into was the big, commercial microwave tended to burn microwave popcorn. Though there was a long table upstairs in the barnhouse, we never ate there. Instead we enjoyed eating our dinners on the 4 picnic tables on the giant covered deck. Being shaded, it was comfortable with the weather in the 80s that we had. The deck had a long, narrow bar that worked great for making a buffet line for dinner each night. Because the deck is very roomy and open to the air, it didn’t feel cramped and noisy when the kids left the table and ran around the deck playing. From the covered deck we could walk through a door into a silo that had been converted into a workout room and theater. The silo has weights, machines, yoga mats and such. It also has a giant screen and a projector. When we arrived, the owner Dave showed me how to plug my computer into the projector. Every evening after dinner we moved chairs into the silo (or sat on yoga mats on the floor) and watched videos and family slide shows from my computer. Was so easy after all the years we’ve been in rentals where we had to bring our own projector as well as create a make-shift screen by clearing pictures off a wall or hanging a sheet outside on the wall of a building. Elk Ridge Ranch is so gigantic, it was easy for people to get their space if they needed it. The barnhouse and the farmhouse are on opposite sides of a gravel parking lot. The farmhouse has 5 bedrooms (no kitchen or living areas). Four of them had queen beds and a toilet, sink & shower. The 5th room had a queen and a twin"

  • What a wonderful week!

"Our family of 6 ages 6 months to 58 just returned from a great week on beautiful Clear Lake. This was this family's first lake adventure and we were very pleased. The accommodations were wonderful! Since it was our first visit we didn't know what to bring and the owners made sure the cottage was well stocked with needs from any kitchen item to paper products. (They do ask you replace anything you use up but that is more than fair). We packed way more than we needed to. We are a multi-generation family and the way the home is set up is perfect for this. The younger folks had the entire lower level while the older folks had the upstairs. Very convenient. Thanks for a great week!"
