  • Jessica Scott-daughter of Jerry Schoeph

"This is a beautiful cottage! The pictures depict the cottage very well. My family truly enjoyed our stay. My son Breckin enjoyed the water and being able to walk right down to the water without having to manuever down a large slope or steps. The bedrooms were very spacious and each one was unique :) The cottage was clean and very well kept. I would recommend this cottage to anyone who wants to enjoy Clearlake, has a family with little ones and just wants a relaxing vacation. The neighbors were also very helpful and friendly. It was an all around wonderful experience. Thank you for allowing us to rent your beautiful cottage and we hope to rent again in the future!"

  • "Our" farm away from the city

"This marks our fourth summer visiting "our" farm in Valparaiso for a week. Fred and Leslie have created such a fantastic relaxed atmosphere, from the cozy home to the tree swing to the grassy walking trails lined with wild blackberries. It's the type of place where you can hear traffic but not see it, where we can let our kids run wild in the yard which they rarely can do in Chicago, where you can wake up to deer in the side yard and make s'mores every night. And it's a quick drive to downtown Valpo for dinners out and ice cream treats. The home itself is decorated with a modern-slash-retro-cabin curated style that could easily be featured in Apartment Therapy or design*sponge. Every year we enjoy coming back to see Leslie's latest improvements and vintage finds. The Vermillion Farm is the kind of place that we wish that we could own someday. We would spend all summer at this VRBO property if we could!"

  • Fantastic Setting for Large Group Golf Trip

"This property was the perfect complement to our golf trip on the Pete Dye Trail. Centrally located between the Lafayette and Indianapolis courses, this property has everything to keep the group entertained. From the fire pit, to ping pong, shuffle board, billiards, basketball, and ample room to toss the football, this property kept our group connected and hanging out together long after leaving the course. Truly the ideal property for a great golf trip!"

Indiana Travel Tips

Getting to Indiana Vacation Rentals

There are two main travel hubs to Indiana. If you are traveling to the central or southern regions of the state, you will fly to Indianapolis International Airport. The airport hosts all major North American carriers and has regular commercial flight connections. If you are traveling to the far southern parts of Indiana, the most convenient access point would be Louisville International Airport in Kentucky. The airport is located just across the Ohio River which forms the state border with Indiana. For travelers who will be spending their vacations on Lake Michigan and in the northern parts of Indiana, the best airport to travel to would be either Chicago O'Hare International Airport or Chicago Midway International Airport. Technically, this area falls into the greater Chicago Metropolitan area even though it is part of Indiana. From all these airports, there are good public transport links into the cities and surrounding areas. There is an extensive rail network which provides easy access to the major cities. If you prefer, you can also hire a car and drive to your vacation destination.

Attractions and Activities at Indiana Lake Homes

One of the most popular vacation destinations in Indiana is Lake Michigan. The state borders only a small portion of the lakeshore but it is where many of the vacation homes are concentrated. Because Indiana is on the southeastern shoreline, visitors can benefit from magnificent sunsets over the lake. Favorite pastimes include fishing and boating. Many of the lakeside communities are quite seasonal and become hives of activity during the summer months. There are often fishing tournaments and other fun-filled events that take place in season.

If you want to explore some of the lakeshore, you can hire a canoe or kayak and go for a leisurely paddle. There are several State Parks where you can enjoy nature trails, go for hikes and spend the early morning birdwatching. The Dunes State Park is a section of land along the Lake Michigan shoreline which is ideal for wildlife viewing. There are many other state parks in Indiana where you can go hiking or mountain biking. In the south central part of Indiana, you can visit the Bluespring Caverns in Bedford where you take a boat ride through the caves. Indiana has a rich cultural heritage and this is evidenced by the many museums dotted throughout the state. Several are dedicated specifically to the artistic heritage of Indiana.

Visitors to Indiana Cottages

Indiana is a great family vacation destination. Whether you are fishing along the shore of Lake Michigan or hiking a nature trail, there are many different outdoor activities that you can enjoy as a family. There are also several fun amusement parks that offer rides and entertainment for kids of all ages. For those who have an interest in art and culture, there are many art galleries and museums in the major towns and cities in Indiana. If you are an outdoor-type person and want to explore nature, there are many state parks where you can go mountain biking or hiking along the nature trails.

Seasons to Visit Indiana

Indiana has attractions that can be enjoyed throughout the year. For those who want to enjoy the lakes and parks, the best time of year to visit would be during the summer months. The temperatures are generally hot with the occasional thunderstorms. The peak travel season is during the months of July and August which coincide with the summer vacation season. Many families choose this time of year to have an extended family vacation.
