  • The best week of our lives!

"This has quickly- and unanimously- become the mandated "family vacation spot" of every year! We had the whole family out to enjoy the beach, the park, the zoo, the fest and car show, BBQ's and fireworks, bonfires on the beach, and more! It was just a quick walk to the cool sand that leads right down to the beach so it's easy to get all the fun beach toys out to the water - the cooler full of drinks was the toughest part :). The boats can come right up into shore so friends can come visit us too. The delightfully cool house was a treat to come back into after the beach each day. I swear you could hear everyone sigh walking in. And my favorite spot - the long table out back to hang out at and enjoy dinner, play cards, talk and simply spend time together at - even in the rain (compliments of the plexiglass roof). It's that wonderful vacation spot that our kids will remember going to every year."

  • Back again :-)

"We had so much fun last year we came back and once again Mother Nature smiled and gave us beautiful weather. Our family love it so much they are now calling it "our lake house". We cooked all our meals - your kitchen is so well equipped - the newly painted cabinets are beautiful. Once again we brought our kayaks, canoe - and a small sailboat. The little ones spent hours in the water and collecting shells and rocks. We did have a couple rain showers but your toy and puzzle cabinet in the family room kept them happily entertained. The rooms are so well insulated upstairs those who wanted to sleep in could do so. The sunsets are gorgeous and sitting in the lounge chairs at the end of the dock in the cool evening breeze - so relaxing. Thank you again for sharing your beautiful summer cottage on the lake. We're already talking about next year :-)"

  • Perfect

"The house was perfect for our group of 6. Many comfortable areas to sit and talk. Great selection of movies with plenty of sitting space. House was very clean and had everything we needed. More than enough dishes, glasses and cookware. Beds were very comfortable. Kitchen prep area was small but wasnt an issue. Would love to return in warmer weather to enjoy the outside pond and patio areas."

  • AMAZING!

"Thank you so much! This house was more than expected. Plenty of cooking utensils and towels. Direct lake access for swimming with beautiful views. We really enjoyed swimming and hanging out. Close to everything, not walking distance but a short drive. On a quiet street, neighbors were very nice. My husband and I and our 3 kids (ages 2, 7 & 9) had the BEST vacation! We are already talking about when we can go back :)"

Indiana Travel Tips

Getting to Indiana Vacation Rentals

There are two main travel hubs to Indiana. If you are traveling to the central or southern regions of the state, you will fly to Indianapolis International Airport. The airport hosts all major North American carriers and has regular commercial flight connections. If you are traveling to the far southern parts of Indiana, the most convenient access point would be Louisville International Airport in Kentucky. The airport is located just across the Ohio River which forms the state border with Indiana. For travelers who will be spending their vacations on Lake Michigan and in the northern parts of Indiana, the best airport to travel to would be either Chicago O'Hare International Airport or Chicago Midway International Airport. Technically, this area falls into the greater Chicago Metropolitan area even though it is part of Indiana. From all these airports, there are good public transport links into the cities and surrounding areas. There is an extensive rail network which provides easy access to the major cities. If you prefer, you can also hire a car and drive to your vacation destination.

Attractions and Activities at Indiana Lake Homes

One of the most popular vacation destinations in Indiana is Lake Michigan. The state borders only a small portion of the lakeshore but it is where many of the vacation homes are concentrated. Because Indiana is on the southeastern shoreline, visitors can benefit from magnificent sunsets over the lake. Favorite pastimes include fishing and boating. Many of the lakeside communities are quite seasonal and become hives of activity during the summer months. There are often fishing tournaments and other fun-filled events that take place in season.

If you want to explore some of the lakeshore, you can hire a canoe or kayak and go for a leisurely paddle. There are several State Parks where you can enjoy nature trails, go for hikes and spend the early morning birdwatching. The Dunes State Park is a section of land along the Lake Michigan shoreline which is ideal for wildlife viewing. There are many other state parks in Indiana where you can go hiking or mountain biking. In the south central part of Indiana, you can visit the Bluespring Caverns in Bedford where you take a boat ride through the caves. Indiana has a rich cultural heritage and this is evidenced by the many museums dotted throughout the state. Several are dedicated specifically to the artistic heritage of Indiana.

Visitors to Indiana Cottages

Indiana is a great family vacation destination. Whether you are fishing along the shore of Lake Michigan or hiking a nature trail, there are many different outdoor activities that you can enjoy as a family. There are also several fun amusement parks that offer rides and entertainment for kids of all ages. For those who have an interest in art and culture, there are many art galleries and museums in the major towns and cities in Indiana. If you are an outdoor-type person and want to explore nature, there are many state parks where you can go mountain biking or hiking along the nature trails.

Seasons to Visit Indiana

Indiana has attractions that can be enjoyed throughout the year. For those who want to enjoy the lakes and parks, the best time of year to visit would be during the summer months. The temperatures are generally hot with the occasional thunderstorms. The peak travel season is during the months of July and August which coincide with the summer vacation season. Many families choose this time of year to have an extended family vacation.
