  • Beautiful secluded lakeshore house surrounded by nature.

"While attending A July retreat in the Chicago area, I had the good fortune to find a rental house on Lake Michigan , that also served as a wonderful lodging for me during my retreat. This beautiful three bedroom, split level, charming lake house,is surrounded by beautiful nature vistas, visible, thanks to the full length ceiling to floor windows in most rooms. This enables the light to play beautifully on the warm, wooded paneled walls, as well as provide great illumination, even on a cloudy day. The house has the ambience of a secluded space, but the Michigan shore is a mere block away. A well stocked and organized kitchen adds to the pleasure of cooking, and makes dining in a real pleasure. At the rear of the house is a peaceful patio and barbeque area for good weather use. Artistic touches within the house invite the guest to enjoy the peace and calm within, or enjoy any of the electronics;phone, stereo, or TV, DVD,with thoughtfully provided instructions making it easy to use any of these devices. The ambience of this house in the forest setting makes one reluctant to depart. In the future, I look forward to sampling other seasons on this special property."

  • Fish Lake Memories

"We had such a nice time at the adorable lake house. The view was awesome and the lake so tranquil, I couldn't feel more at peace. The house was very clean with practically everything you possibly could need from dishes, towels, utensils, and so much more. We were very comfortable. I did have a wrist injury, but I managed to still have fun. I definitely recommend and would love to go back. Great for people into water sports."

  • Cozy, Quiet, and Close to the Beach

"Dreamwold House is incredibly cozy and comfortable. We used every bit of the property - coffee on the patio, games & meals on the porch, visiting in the kitchen, and relaxing in the living room. There is plenty of sleeping room for six adults, and Mariya and Ian keep the place sparkling and inviting with lovely decor throughout. The beach themes in the bedrooms provide an extra coziness with four poster beds and antique furnishings throughout the house. The short walk to the beach was a great opportunity to see the deer and the lovely wooded properties of Michiana Shores. The private beach was extremely peaceful and quiet both during the day and at sunset each evening. The owners live close by and have truly thought of everything - from beach chairs to toys, to bicycle of all sizes. I highly recommend this property for adults, families with kids, or for a romantic getaway. Dreamwold House has it all!"

  • Great cottage/location

"This is a very nice, clean, updated cottage/home and the owners were very easy to work with in setting up the arrangements. It has a pretty view of the lake with the water levels being low near the dock so even little ones could walk around in the water. This stay was just for my husband and I and it was in a great location, very close to Amish stores - Shipshewana. Mother Nature had other ideas changing the weather from 90 the week before to 50 and windy during our stay so we didn't get to take advantage of the water as much as we had liked or the swing/porch chairs that overlook the lake. We would definitely come back again as it was a quiet location on a cul de sac. We hope that the next time the weather cooperates. The stars in the sky were plentiful though and so are the many Amish buggies so watch as you are driving the area. Take a buggy ride in town from one of the several vendors offering rides."

Indiana Travel Tips

Getting to Indiana Vacation Rentals

There are two main travel hubs to Indiana. If you are traveling to the central or southern regions of the state, you will fly to Indianapolis International Airport. The airport hosts all major North American carriers and has regular commercial flight connections. If you are traveling to the far southern parts of Indiana, the most convenient access point would be Louisville International Airport in Kentucky. The airport is located just across the Ohio River which forms the state border with Indiana. For travelers who will be spending their vacations on Lake Michigan and in the northern parts of Indiana, the best airport to travel to would be either Chicago O'Hare International Airport or Chicago Midway International Airport. Technically, this area falls into the greater Chicago Metropolitan area even though it is part of Indiana. From all these airports, there are good public transport links into the cities and surrounding areas. There is an extensive rail network which provides easy access to the major cities. If you prefer, you can also hire a car and drive to your vacation destination.

Attractions and Activities at Indiana Lake Homes

One of the most popular vacation destinations in Indiana is Lake Michigan. The state borders only a small portion of the lakeshore but it is where many of the vacation homes are concentrated. Because Indiana is on the southeastern shoreline, visitors can benefit from magnificent sunsets over the lake. Favorite pastimes include fishing and boating. Many of the lakeside communities are quite seasonal and become hives of activity during the summer months. There are often fishing tournaments and other fun-filled events that take place in season.

If you want to explore some of the lakeshore, you can hire a canoe or kayak and go for a leisurely paddle. There are several State Parks where you can enjoy nature trails, go for hikes and spend the early morning birdwatching. The Dunes State Park is a section of land along the Lake Michigan shoreline which is ideal for wildlife viewing. There are many other state parks in Indiana where you can go hiking or mountain biking. In the south central part of Indiana, you can visit the Bluespring Caverns in Bedford where you take a boat ride through the caves. Indiana has a rich cultural heritage and this is evidenced by the many museums dotted throughout the state. Several are dedicated specifically to the artistic heritage of Indiana.

Visitors to Indiana Cottages

Indiana is a great family vacation destination. Whether you are fishing along the shore of Lake Michigan or hiking a nature trail, there are many different outdoor activities that you can enjoy as a family. There are also several fun amusement parks that offer rides and entertainment for kids of all ages. For those who have an interest in art and culture, there are many art galleries and museums in the major towns and cities in Indiana. If you are an outdoor-type person and want to explore nature, there are many state parks where you can go mountain biking or hiking along the nature trails.

Seasons to Visit Indiana

Indiana has attractions that can be enjoyed throughout the year. For those who want to enjoy the lakes and parks, the best time of year to visit would be during the summer months. The temperatures are generally hot with the occasional thunderstorms. The peak travel season is during the months of July and August which coincide with the summer vacation season. Many families choose this time of year to have an extended family vacation.
