  • Guys Weekend

"Booked this destination for a winter guys weekend with some old college buddies. Secluded, peaceful, easily sleeping 6, we really enjoyed hanging out and catching up. The fireplace was a big hit with us. You could tell the location was a bit more ideal for summer months (to take advantage of the beach), but it was nice in the winter too to get away from it all. We appreciated that the kitchen had everything we needed to make our own meals."

  • The BEST in Iowa!

"My husband and I have been coming to Horn’s Ferry Hideaway for several years now. The first couple years we would come just once a year in November, and this past year we have come to our “home away from home” five times throughout the year. It is our favorite place to go to relax and get away from our everyday busy lives. The cabin is always very clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated which makes it feel like home. It has all the amenities anyone could dream of. We love to cook and grill out and they always have everything we need. Hugh and his wife are extremely accommodating and are excellent to work with when booking and making our stay as care-free as possible. There are so many trails and outdoor activities to do around Lake Red Rock, which are all within walking distance from the cabin. We have explored numerous walking trails, canoed and kayaked in some beautiful places, and have caught some great fish in the lake and river. There are also great bike paths for all levels of riders. We also love to go uptown Pella and visit all the unique stores, and of course the bakery! We have research and visited many cabins in Iowa and there is just nowhere around that is as great as Horn’s Ferry Hideaway!"

  • Wonderful New Year

"My boyfriend and I generally find a little getaway between Christmas and New years. This year we stayed at this wonderful Cabin. We had a great time and felt well relaxed. I was a bit anxious to try VRBO but my first try turned out beautifully. The host provided clear guidance and a wonderful place for memories. Unfortunately for us the temperatures were far colder than we expected but despite that, we still used the hottub and outdoor fire. Kitchen has everything you need. The bed is as amazing as the view. I would encourage folks to bring groceries that they want to use becuase the town is very small so the nearest real grocery store is about 10 miles away. There are a few local convenient marts that sell basic food too. We are hoping to come back again when we can do some fishing and outdoor activities."

  • Very fun and comfortable

"We had a group of 9 people and dogs. The place was very large, so everyone was able to do whatever they wanted without being on top of one another if they didn't want. Dogs were welcome, which is hard to find. It seemed very secluded and private. Plenty of entertainment was provided (multiple tv's, movies, cd's, pool/ping pong table, board games, reading material, toys for kids, xbox 360, etc.). The hot tub was great and very spacious, and the fire pit was very cozy. It was also nice to have a washer and drier. The only reasons for not having 5 stars was that you have to bring your own extra toilet paper and washer pods, which is weird; I'm a big fan of music, but the surround sound stereo was not hooked up and was scattered around the house, so tv speakers had to suffice; the fireplaces aren't adjustable, so it overheats the house in a matter of minutes; and lastly, the water pressure is low, so we couldn't take advantage of the beautiful, huge, double headed master shower (or have people using separate showers simultaneously)."
