  • Great Country Getaway

"My husband and I wanted to get away from the city for a couple of days over Memorial Day weekend with our dog, and we were thrilled with this cabin. The country lodge was very spacious, beautifully decorated, and had everything you could need for cooking and entertainment. Mary and Laurel were wonderful hosts and their hospitality was outstanding, as Mary treated us with homemade cinnamon rolls for our stay (they were delicious!), and Laurel even went out of his way to find us a fishing pole if we decided we wanted to throw a line the pond behind the cabin. We didn't even have to bring breakfast groceries because Mary said she would have fresh farm eggs, bacon, OJ, butter and bread in the refrigerator for us! I think it would be fair to say that our dog had a wonderful time as well, as he met the host family's friendly yellow lab; they had fun romping around in the front yard and taking a nap in the cool, air conditioned cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed taking morning walks and sitting on the porch swing at sunset. I was even so lucky to see a wild turkey Saturday morning roaming around as I drank my morning coffee -- you can't get that in the city! I would highly recommend staying at this property -- the listing description was accurate, the property is very clean and well maintained, it was easy to find, and the owner's are very accomodating and friendly. We had a wonderful stay!"

  • Excellent choice

"There were 4 of us: myself (70s), son (50), friends (60s), so we used the main-floor bedroom, the lower-level bedroom, and had a single bed set up in the small room off the kitchen. All our accommodations were comfortable, and having a bathroom on each floor meant that there wasn't any early-morning congestion. The common areas (living room, kitchen, eating area) were large enough that we did not feel crowded. The good: Owner very responsive, and house was well equipped (even mosquito repellent!). View awesome. The pictures on the website were accurate, property as described. Very clean. Location extremely convenient for accessing downtown, baseball stadium, etc. Owner provided excellent information about the house, the neighborhood, and sightseeing. The neighborhood was calm, safe, and friendly. Traffic noise from highways audible outside, but inside the house it was quiet. Parking on the street but we always had plenty of room for our two cars. We would certainly recommend the house to others, and would consider staying here again if we return to the area. The house does not have handicapped access. As a previous reviewer mentioned, the steps up to the house from the sidewalk are old and require care in navigating, especially in heavy rain. However, there is a railing and we had no real problems."

  • Cozy near campus house

"My family and I rented the house in June for KU orientation and loved it! The house is in a perfect location, we walked to orientation because it was so close, yet there were no disturbing noises at night that would usually come from being so close to campus. It's a quick drive to Mass street with wonderful food and shops. After a long day I would crawl into bed and feel so relaxed. We all know that some beds just are not comfortable, but the beds in this house are probably better than mine at home! Talk about a great nights sleep. I would recommend this house to anyone!"

  • Extremely Satisfied Visitors

"This was our first visit to Kansas, but the Keene Road Country Estate must be one of the best kept secrets in the entire state. The owners were super, and the property is even better than advertised; absolutely everything exceeded our expectations. The purpose of our travel to Kansas was to attend a wedding in Wamego, which is about 30 minutes away. With children and grandchildren joining us from both coasts, we wanted better accommodations than just renting several small hotel rooms. That type of arrangement makes it way to difficult to enjoy any family time; so we aimed higher, and couldn't have found a better place. The entire family fell in love with it. Although it was not advertised, there was a swing set and climbing apparatus, various yard toys, and cartoon DVDs that all entertained the grandchildren. They also couldn't get enough of the rides on a covered tandem quad-cycle that was provided. The gorgeous and wide wrap around porch gave them a place to play during the few rainstorms that occurred during our stay. Wi-Fi, Foosball, and air hockey were also available for the adults. Our bed was comfy, and we assume all the others were, as there were no complaints about that, or anything else. And coming from the big city, the serenity, peacefulness, and lack of traffic congestion in Kansas was so welcome. And, the stars at night. WOW! Our needs from the property were small; however it provides more than enough acreage and structures to accommodate almost any type of event imaginable. Weddings, anniversary parties, and family reunions would just be the tip of the iceberg. While we awaited the arrival of the rest of the family, the owners took the time to tour us throughout the property and relate its history (there is even a photo album in the living room of stuff from "ago" that our granddaughter couldn't put down). While we did not require use of the annex, we did get to see the inside; and even that is better than advertised. If a place such as this was even available in the suburbs of Washington, DC, it would be booked years in advance! If we have any regret, it would be that we did not rent the Keene Road Country Estate for an entire week, rather than the three days that we did stay there. And, we mean that sincerely. We hope to be back again sometime soon."
