  • Lovely cabin, great location, lots of wildlife

"We had a fantastic week long stay in Lower Meadow cabin. What a peaceful and beautiful setting! We had deer visiting every morning and most evenings, right outside the front door by the big oak tree. It was lovely to watch them while having our breakfast. It was also fun watching the squirrels and the great variety of birdlime, including bluebirds, quails and woodpecker. The cabin is very comfortable and spacious with plenty of cupboards and storage space. The weather was very hot when we were there and the cooling system worked perfectly and soon cooled the cabin down when we returned after being out all day. We were prepared most of our meals in the kitchen, which was ideal after spending the day out sightseeing. The washing machine and dryer were also very useful, although the addition of an iron and ironing board would have been useful. The location is perfect for visiting Yosemite and is about the same distance from the west or south entrance. It is good to try both routes if you have time as the scenery is completely different! It is a 10-15 minute drive to Mariposa, a charming little town with shops, cafes and restaurants. If you have time visit the Old Courthouse and the Museum and History Center. The courthouse is the oldest operating one in California and is very interesting. Both places are well worth the visit. The Pioneer Market in Mariposa is great for buying all your provisions. You can also buy food etc. at the Triangle Road store, which is only a mile away but not so much choice and a bit pricier, although gas is very cheap there. We also ate at the cafe there one night and the food was very good. Call in at the Mariposa Coffee Company on your way back from Mariposa on the 49 just a few miles from the cabin. If you go when the coffee is being roasted the smell is amazing. We bought some of the 49er blend and it was very good! For any railway enthusiasts, my husband found out about an old Shay logging locomotive, caboose and turntable just off the 140 at El Portal on the way to Yosemite. It is where the old railway used to run. It really was worth the few extra minutes on our journey to see it and it's free! All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin and if we ever have the opportunity to visit the Yosemite area again, we would definitely choose to stay there again!"

  • Wishing we could stay forever!

"Cannot possibly do this home justice in a few words! Clean, comfortable, quiet, roomy, reasonable. If I could buy this house, and move here closer to my grand kids (oh yeah, kids too), I certainly would! Have visited Crescent City many times, this trip was awesome, in part because of this rental, and working with Mary. Would not hesitate to do business with Mary again! Did I mention: clean AND reasonable? Two of my favorite adjectives. Wow! Great experience.!"

Lake Huron Area Travel Tips

Over 3,800 Miles of Stunning Scenery at Lake Huron Vacation Rentals

One of the five Great Lakes and the second largest, Lake Huron is partially in the state of Michigan in the United States and partially in the province of Ontario, Canada. It is also the world’s fifth largest freshwater lake. Its name comes from early French explorers who based it on the name of the original inhabitant of the area. With its 30,000 islands, Lake Huron has the longest shoreline of any of the Great Lakes at over 3,800 miles. With excellent airport links and roads, including major interstate and state highways, the area surrounding the lake is easily accessible. The weather here makes for perfect warm summer vacations or all the fun of a snowy winter wonderland.

Fabulous Fishing and Much More at Lake Huron Cottages

One of the most popular activities around here is, of course, fishing. Wherever visitors to Lake Huron cabins choose as a vacation base, they will find they are close to the lake, with marinas, launching areas, docking facilities and boat charters available. With its many bays and quiet cove areas, it is an ideal place for sailing as well as fishing. The lake is kept well stocked with a wide variety of native species. Those looking to spend some time fishing from the shore or by boat will be rewarded with a species such as a variety of trout, including brown and rainbow, Coho Salmon, herring, pike, bass, and perch. Die-hard fishermen may even want to try ice fishing in winter here. Of course, it is not just about the fishing, with many opportunities to enjoy kayaking, boating, sailing, swimming and diving.

All around the lake are hiking trails for summer that become cross country skiing and snowshoeing areas during the winter months. Visitors will find trails to suit beginners or advanced hikers and skiers. Many areas also provide great spelunking (caving) opportunities for the more adventurous. There are also many biking trails here, as well as wonderful opportunities to get out into the forest areas around the lake on horseback. For a real bird’s eye view of the lake in its entire splendor, try a helicopter tour. For the romantics, perhaps a winter sleigh ride would be the perfect day out.

Choose Michigan or Canada

As great as the great outdoors is, it is nice to have something to look forward to in the evenings, and visitors to Lake Huron vacation rentals will find they are well taken care of in this regard. With a choice of so many towns dotted around the lake, either in Michigan or over the border in Canada, there are plenty of options for those who like an active nightlife. These towns know how to take care of their guests, and visitors will find a wide variety of taverns, pubs and nightclubs offering good food, great company and dancing to a wide variety of music.

Lake Huron Cabins With Docks and a Welcome for the Dog

Pick from Lake Huron cottages in areas such as Cedarville or Drummond Island on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula; Alpena and Caseville in Lower Michigan or Canadian resorts such as Grand Bend, Southampton or Wasaga Beach are among the huge variety of towns to base your vacation. Most come with views of the lakes and many will be just steps from the shoreline. Whichever town is most suited to your vacation, one thing is certain--the home you choose as your base will be a great one. Homes come in a variety of sizes, from small and cozy to large and spacious, and each will be equipped with everything needed and more. Find homes with log furnishings, indoor Jacuzzis or outdoor hot tubs, pool tables, big screen TVs, docks, or even boats! The owners think of everything, and many even welcome the dog!
