"We were only here for two nights but wished almost immediately that our stay was longer. The house is spacious, comfortable and very well kitted out. The back decking is huge and overlooks a large garden where we played croquet on the lawn. We were very lucky to be able to take up the opportunity to have dinner with a local Amish family in the village, arranged by Lucy. This was one of the highlights of our trip. The doughnuts sold on Saturday morning just around the corner were the best we have ever had! There are lots of nature walks and beautiful farming landscapes in the local area. Lucy has very good local knowledge and went out of her way to ensure that we had a wonderful stay. We even went for a bird walk with Lucy and a friend. They helped find and identify the birds we saw and heard. Thank you so much Lucy for such an enjoyable stay and for making us feel so welcome. We highly recommend a stay at the Dancing Bear Lodge - you won't be disappointed!"Guest: Andy H. Date of Stay: August 2014 Review Submitted: August 26, 2014View listing
"The Gnome House is such an incredibly unique and amazing place. What Meg and Bob have created on their property is so wonderful. We went with our young (10 and 9 years old) niece and nephew. The Gnome House itself is fantastic. Just the attention to detail with the building construction is incredible. It's not a fancy place (think more cabin-like than fancy resort), but it has everything you need and is quite comfortable. But the real charm of this place is the property. The kids spent every day down at the pond on the property catching frogs and even swimming. There's a playset with the most amazing view of Deer Harbor. There are acres and acres of trails to explore, pick blackberries. And even a permaculture garden! In the evenings it was roasting smores in the fire pit or sitting in the hot tub under the stars. And Bob was so kind, teaching the kids how to catch frogs and making sure they were having a fantastic time. Really, it was a vacation to remember and we'll definitely be back."Guest: Jenna L. "I am perplexed by the last review...???? This home was beautiful and immaculate! We are a family with young children and we understand roughing it as we are avid fishermen and nature seekers. However, my girlfriend and husband (also with small children) have only vacationed in upscale hotels and luxury vacations. She decided to come along as long as we stayed in comfortable quarters and large enough to let our kids run free. I worried all the way up to Bandon hoping this home met her usual comforts and boy I wish you could've seen her face! Her jaw dropped as soon as we walked in! It was so open, CLEAN, beautifully decorated, and the VIEWS!!!! My gawd! You couldn't ask for more! It was so wonderful eating breakfast overlooking the lighthouse and jetty as the waves crashed on top of the rocks. Love that this home is wood flooring vs carpet just made it feel that much cleaner and sanitary. The bathrooms were large and well stocked. The kitchen was HUGE! We used the Weber gas grill almost every day. We also loved the built in griddle on the Wolfe stove. The rooms were comfortable and bedding clean and new. Each room has it's own thermostat which was greatly appreciated cuz we all had different comfort levels when it came to heating. There was even a gas fireplace for ambiance. The children loved the garage with bikes, foozeball table, air hockey table...oh and they even liked the aquarium with the fake iguana...lol...Owners thought of every detail including fishing poles and crab nets. One suggestion...a large cooking pot that can fit multiple crabs and 100's of butter clams we caught on our outdoor adventures. Jonathon the homeowner is wonderful! Very attentive and wants to make sure his guests are comfortable and happy with the accommodations. He brought us a tower of new towels and a bike pump when his cleaning crew reported to him that it was needed. Our car broke down on the way to Bandon and he called us a few times to check on us. When I called after our visit and told him I had lost my keys, he personally searched and upturned every sofa cushion to look for them. That's how nice and caring he is. Did I mention he owns the local breakfast place in town! It's delicious!!!! Get the omelet! :) I feel sorry for the last reviewer that they didn't enjoy it as much as we did here. I do believe that it's in our power to make it what we want to make it. I did find an expired jam jar but my world didn't come crashing down...I just threw it out. Thanks again!!!"Guest: Tutusandrobots Date of Stay: July 2014 Review Submitted: July 17, 2014View listing
