"I stayed here for a week with my son (I'm mid-70s, he's 50ish) last year, and enjoyed it so much that I booked it for a month, with two friends, this year. Our plan was to get away from the Iowa winter for a bit, returning on the first day of spring.
We each claimed a "room": the person who needed to sleep in the daytime got the bedroom, the one who likes to stay up and watch TV had the sofabed in the living room, and the third set up a cot in the kitchen, using the additional cot mattresses to make a thicker cushion. Everyone was comfortable, although the cot wouldn't be suitable for a taller or much heavier person. The apartment was spotlessly clean and had all needed appliances, linens, etc. There was an extra TV in the bedroom. Both the heating and air conditioning worked well. Abundant hot water.
On this lengthy stay, we took full advantage of the kitchen and laundry facilities, and enjoyed sitting on the patio (which certainly wasn't an option at home in the snow!). We traveled by train, and never felt that we needed a car. The neighborhood is great, with a convenience store, restaurants, and pubs within a short walk. If you are interested in architecture, it's fun just to wander about and look at the homes; if you're a jogger, the paved walk along the levee is perfect. The parks and levee have plenty of benches for more sedentary types to perch upon. Also close by is a glass blower's manufactory and shop; they offer an interesting instructional video, and you can see the crafters at work through glass windows at the rear of the store. I only had room for one item in my luggage, but they packed it so carefully that it arrived home unscathed. Should you be seeking a church, there are several nearby, both Catholic and Protestant. The tiny Mount Olivet Episcopal church building was constructed around 1850, entirely of cypress, and the small congregation is very friendly and welcoming. The larger churches looked beautiful.
Whenever we wanted, we took the ferry across the river, with access to all the tourist attractions one could desire. We used the streetcars, city bus, and taxis to get around, finding the transportation costs quite reasonable. (I suspect that it would have been more expensive to park a car than to use public transit.)
Dina is very responsive, and can be reached by email, text, or phone. I'd recommend the property to anyone, assuming they are fit enough to climb a few steepish steps. I'll be back!"
