  • Red Speck Camp

"Our family just spent 3 wonderful weeks at the Red Speck camp in Cocodrie, LA. The camp was very comfortable and clean with more than you would expect with at home amenities. Marc was great to work with and very accommodating. The downstairs kitchen and bath was a major plus. The ice maker was great---didn't have to buy ice for three weeks. This camp comes highly recommended."

  • Lush plants surrounding this hidden gem!

"This place was amazing! First, we had a slight miscommunication with the number of people. We had 8 in our party, which the description states it sleeps 8. There was certainly enough "room", but if you are planning on 8 beds, plan on bringing an air mattress. There was a roll away cot, which sleeps one, and the king is expected to sleep 3. However, the couch is so comfortable, the two in our party actually chose to sleep on the couch as opposed to air mattress/cot that was provided to us. The pictures of the interior are spot on, but the outside pictures of the pool/patio do not do justice. It was 100 times better!!! It was so relaxing to swim in the evening while listening to the sounds of nature, and Caption John, who is one of the best guys you could meet, shared his home and stories with us, and taught us about his birds. It's certainly not minutes from the French Quarter and we did not have a car, but we took the bus, which is just down the street and very easy and cabs home. Though it may seem like the area is "sketchy" or "ghetto", it's how all of New Orleans looks, not just this area. After all, they did survive probably the most horrific hurricane and have had to rebuild. We never felt unsafe or uncomfortable during our stay. This was such a great place and we look forward to our return!"

  • Fun, short weekend

"10 family members celebrating a 50th anniversary. This was our 2nd stay at the house rental but this time also rented the cottage. It was a hot weekend and the fishing wasn't that great but we enjoyed sitting on the deck at the water, under the shade of the trees, enjoying beverages and family time. We also enjoyed watching the horse races on TV at the outdoor bar/kitchen and with the fans provided at the bar area it made for a cooler place to sit during the hottest part of the day. We once again utilized the barbque pit nearest the house for meals and I can't say enough how nice it is to have the ice maker provided! So easy for keeping drinks (or fish) in an ice chest outside. Thanks again to the groundskeeper for helping us out when we accidentally locked ourselves out of the cottage. We enjoyed another visit and hope to do it again in the future!"

  • Loved it

"Ann and ginger were lovely to deal with and we had no problems with booking or arrival. Ginger is so nice and it was great to chat with her. The house is so beautiful and quirky - we loved the shotgun style and it is so big, so much more than the pictures convey. The kitchen is very well equipped and it is easy to make a meal. Loved the shady back yard and Simon the dog!"
