"My wife and I vacation in Blue Hill, ME every year, so I can attend a chamber music workshop at Kneisel Hall. A few years ago, we agreed that the dormitory life at Kneisel Hall was not for us. We've tried a few places to stay with limited success. Our priorities are quiet, comfortable accommodations and distance to Kneisel Hall. This year we discovered Garaj Mahal and it was a great experience. It met the criteria above and then some. My wife is a nature lover and artist and the Salt Pond was a source of great pleasure for her, including swimming in it.
Maureen and Steve are a pleasure to deal with, in addition to the physical attributes of their place. We recommend it highly."

"We just returned from an awesome Maine vac and staying at the NortherNest was perfect in every way. As everyone else has commented, the owners have thought of everything possible to give their renters the over and beyond treatment.
*Clean and inviting home that has everything well thought out.. A breakfast nook, deck seating, fenced in grassy area and gated deck for the dogs. Lovely decor. Every tool and kitchen and bathroom supplies.
* Acadia Park pass plus surrounding area info
* Beautiful view of bay from the home. Plus plentiful gardens with fresh veggies and herbs! We made fresh salads...lettuce, beets, carrots, cukes, tomatoes, squash...to name a few! Wonderful!
* Private beach- our dogs loved to roam and have fun every day. Found some sea glass and a star fish. Saw a sea. Gorgeous views, peaceful and serene. Kayaks were available to use also.
* Location was great. 10-15 min to Bar Harbor. Acadia Park, Ellsworth, SW Harbor and other small towns within close proximity.
* Restaurants and shopping galore...too many to choose from. Paddy's, Side Street Cafe in Bar Harbor were great. Also 2 Cats Inn & Cafe for breakfast.
* Must do- Be the first to witness the sun rise in the USA on Cadillac Mnt. It was really windy and cold but worth it...dress accordingly in Oct, worth seeing! Acadia National Park...Sand Beach, small but beautiful, saw an eagle there. The trail there is awesome, you will pass Thunder Hole also.
I'm sure I am forgetting many other suggestions but I just wanted to let any future renters know, this place is a gem of a place. Thanks Julee and Pete for making our vac a perfect one!"

"Our family use to camp on Mt. Desert Island years ago. We decided it was time to return but with real beds instead of tents and sleeping bags. Sunnymead is so charming and has such character. With adult children, we needed a house for everyone to have their own space. Our family of eight fit nicely here. The house is older and more like a real Maine cottage. It is well maintained and very clean. There are plenty of towels and bathrooms for everyone! The bedrooms are good size and the beds comfortable. We loved all the windows to open for the magnificent Maine breezes. The house is well supplied with dishes, glassware, pots and pans. The grounds are very nice with a good sized yard for children, surrounded by tall, lush trees. Our grandson LOVED the swing! We enjoyed dinner in the gazebo as well has taking our lobster dinner to the private shore area that is a brief walk from the house. Just remember flashlights if you stay til dark to stargaze. There are several picnic tables at the shore. Our grandson loved the history of the house as it relates to the book Fudgmania, and had fun looking for all the items mentioned. The house has one TV but you are in Maine and on vacation so I encourage you to not think about that! There is Internet available. The owner is so helpful. We had a minor issue in the first day and she was easy to contact and it was handled immediately. The house is not far from Southwest Harbor and is just off the road so it is very quiet and peaceful. Check out Cookies and More just up the street, or Little Notch Bakery for breakfast pastry in town. I hope it doesn't take me another 15 years to return!!"

"Great location, access to all the major attractions. Lovely, clean home, lot's of yard space and represented accurately in photos. Well equipped kitchen and bathrooms plus plenty of linens, cozy living room, a lot of room for large dinner etc. There were 10 of us, all slept comfortably but please note that you must walk through a bunk bedroom to access the large bedroom. We had to change our sleeping arrangements to accommodate but it all worked out. The master bedroom and bathroom on the first floor was perfect for one of our couples who has difficulty with stairs. Had a great time!"
