  • Quiet respite

"This cottage is exactly as pictured, or better. I was seeking a quiet haven to unplug (no wifi) and relax from city stress - and, pulling in, I knew I'd found the place. One can kayak right off the front yard (we used our klepper). Gail let us use a canoe (hers). There is not a soul around save the occaisonal lobsterboat in the distance. No noise. A few eagles and seals. We didn't venture out for dinner (living in Europe, we get good food) - but who needs to with a view like that! The sunsets were beautiful. We did cook on the grill and unwind with a glass of wine on the enclosed porch overlooking the bay. The galley kitchen has a granite countertop and the photo doesn't do it justice. The local wine & cheese shop is actually well appointed, a nice surprise. The cottage is very clean, also a relief as I am picky. Gail is a very caring owner. She loves her home and having people enjoy it, it shows in her attention to detail. Several wildflower bouquets awaited us! And a chest of blankets for cool days on the porch. The drive to Mount Desert Island is about 40 min if one so desires to venture out. Seeing sunrise on Mt Cadillac on a clear day (get there 30' prior for best colours), hiking Gorham trail or seeing Schoodic Point were nice. But Quiet Cove has nothing to envy from Acadia. In sum, with its isolation and enclosed private porch, it's better (no people, no bugs). (This stay prompted my husband to dig about close properties for sale). I strongly recommend this place for those seeking a nice, quiet, authentic piece of Maine nature and not the ticky tack of tourist traps. You will not regret it."

  • First trip to Maine!

"My husband and I wanted a peaceful escape away from noise, a lot of traffic and people. BUT, we wanted to be a reasonable driving distance to get to the places we wanted to be. The oceanfront cottage was perfect for this. It's small, but just the right size for 2 people, quaint and in a very quiet area. Right on the water with plenty of activity to watch. Or, just sit quietly, watch a seal swim by, the birds fish, lobster boats work there floats, kayakers enjoying their time, etc. I personally enjoyed walking the beach and looking for interesting objects or critters stuck in the rocky pools after the tide went out. We could get to Bar Harbor within 40 minutes and then on to Acadia which is a stunning area. Our favorite day was going to Schoodic Point and visiting the mainland portion of Acadia. Very few people there, much quieter and stunning views and sunset from Schoodic Point. Then don't miss the Seafood Stew at the Winkled Pickle. We found the Lobster rolls in Maine over priced in the heavily traveled areas but once out of Bar Harbor, Camden and other well traveled sites prices were more reasonable for most everything. From our cottage we were able to enjoy good food, plenty of shopping, Beautiful sites everywhere and lots and lots to do OR...do nothing. We enjoyed that to and the cottage, lawn and beach offered that. Dick and Ivy were rarely seen and very quiet. We did not even know they were around most of the time. We found them to be excellent hosts, making sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The neighbor right next door was also nice and stopped by to say hi. We would recommend the cottage for couples who don't have a large budget as it was extremely reasonable for the accommodations we got. Maine is a beautiful place both inland and on the coast and we loved our time there."

  • Great location and friendly farm!

"We found Fox Hollow Farm an excellent place to locate for easy access to any part of the Acadia area. Quiet and beautiful setting; near a goat farm where they make brick oven pizza on Saturdays. Wonderful seating, sleeping, and dining. Don' t miss this place!"

  • A peaceful paradise

"The cottage and the surrounding property were just wonderful. The interior of the cottage was rustic and unfinished. This added to the overall character of the place. The furniture was in good shape and the sofa was very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped for just about anything you can dream up for a meal. The cabinets hold a lot of goodies. Some of which we didn't discover until later in the stay. But that was probably because we didn't look thoroughly enough. We had a few meals on the table out on the deck to enjoy the view and to take advantage of the phenomenal weather. Words cannot fully describe the beauty of a Maine sunrise. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return someday soon. Ed with SeaScape Kayaks was a great tour guide. I highly recommend them for a great tour of the neighboring islands. We bought lobster from the Winter Harbor Coop and cooked them at the cottage. They were delicious. This place is so quiet. The only sounds are the gentle lapping of the waves, the occasional lobster boat, loons, eagles, etc. Thanks for a great week."
