  • It was ‘Maine-ly’ about being together…and celebrating. We are grateful for the time and experience!

"It didn’t take us long to decide on a destination, Acadia National Park rose to the top of the list almost immediately. From all of our reading and research, it seemed to offer so many hiking and exploring opportunities and (even though it would take a while) some of us could drive. Finally, we would have a long-awaited vacation with our grown children—and we had a lot to celebrate. For this momentous occasion, we wanted a truly special place to stay…Devilstone Carriage/Guesthouse offered that! The VRBO description items that caught our attention instantly were “3 king-size beds, 4 baths, and short walk to town”—we would all have a commodious space and we could walk when we wanted to dine out. Although it sounded quite inviting, since we had never been to Bar Harbor we did not fully appreciate the “Shorepath seating”…we do now! Although one of us bicycled at times, we did need a car to travel the short distance to Acadia each day. (The free Island Explorer bus had not started running yet for the season.) However, we did not need all the stuff we packed (we hadn’t been on a ‘road trip’ in a while) because our home for the week was as “beautifully furnished and fully equipped” as described. We did not have the pleasure of meeting John, the owner, in person—but at every turn we felt his kind and gracious care. Before our visit he was patient and helpful as we pinned down many details. From the moment we stepped into his home—heard the melodious music and found the delicious food items he provided to get us started—we felt greeted and welcome. Through many strategically placed notes, John seemed to anticipate our questions. The written information and suggestions added to our ease and comfort. We also appreciated and took advantage of his restaurant recommendations—and agree they are great! In closing, we will offer this—in case the words “very private” didn’t pop out when you read the description. All around us there were things to do and see. We packed a lot of exhausting, exhilarating activity into each day as we visited Acadia National Park and in the evening the town of Bar Harbor is bustling with its many restaurants and shops. Still…in the morning when we would wake to the song sparrow or walk a few steps to sip our coffee and see the sunrise from the Shorepath…or in the evening when the noises of town would fall away with each step of our short walk towards ‘home’ we truly experienced the private, secluded peace of the place. Our trip was indeed a JOY!"

  • Great Location, Very clean, Welcoming

"We had a perfect vacation in this lovely home. Bar Harbor is such a beautiful place to visit. The house is clean, spacious, and just about everything you need in a house is there, from linens to paper towels. The third floor is especially nice - the one bedroom is very sunny with a sitting area and a wonderful new bathroom. The grocery store is just around the corner. You do not need to drive once you get there - the Village Green buses take you most anywhere on the island. This was our third visit to Acadia National Park. We enjoy the hiking, biking, beautiful views - Shore Trail is my favorite place to walk early morning or early evening. There are so many wonderful restaurants to choose from. Shopping, kayaking, boating. Something for everyone. This is our favorite home so far on the island. We would definitely stay here again."

  • This is what the coast of Maine should look like!

"First, the property owner maintained excellent communications. All questions were answered promptly. Second, located on the secluded land, the house was extremely beautiful and private. The property was well maintained. As cooks, we found the kitchen was fully equipped and ready for cooking. It was conveniently located for shopping as it was half way between Burnt Cove Market and downtown Stonington. It was also within a walking distance form the beautiful sand beach and was on a private rocky beach. The photographs were true the their nature. Third, Stonington itself had variety of restaurants and it was not overrun with tourists, and the Stonington Opera House had a variety of programs. All and all, the two months we spent in the house were everything we expected. As a perspective renter who is touring the property said "This is what the coast of Maine should look like"."

  • Perfect in every way

"My husband, 6 year old daughter and I had the opportunity to spend a relaxing week here in late July. It was a beautiful week in a gorgeous spot. I was concerned that the cabin is on a pond, however after doing a little searching online, I realized that this is a 740 acre pond! We saw a few people out enjoying the water, but overall it was very peaceful. The cabin is exactly as you see it, there were no surprises, it was clean, well organized, and Cindy is an absolute pleasure to work with. All questions prior to arrival were answered, and she greeted us on the day we arrived to give us a tour of the property and make sure we had everything we needed. We spent time in Acadia biking, hiking, and relaxing at Sand Beach. We did venture into Bar Harbor but quickly realized that was to crowded for us, we were anxious to get back to our peaceful home and listen to the loons on the lake, and visit the fish my daughter named "Roxy". There are a lot of antique stores along the way, and Ellsworth/Bucksport are both a short drive away with nice family restaurant. We recommend Finns Irish Public House, Union River Lobster House, and Mainly Meat all in Ellsworth. We are looking forward to coming back again, and exploring more of the area!"
