  • Historic Property Enthralls

"This is a wonderfully updated Historic Maine "Camp" with huge windows running the entire oceanfront side along a full length deck. The floors are highly varnished hardwood which reminds one of the bright-wood on a sailing vessel. The interior is also varnished wood and the master is as large as a small cottage with a vaulted ceiling, and has a king bed and a wonderful northwest pacific area rug. It has all the electronic amenities including dish TV, wiFi etc. etc. The kitchen is fine as is the bath (a good pounding shower). Very easy to launch kayaks/canoe and one can also do the canoe trail that the ancient Micmoks used to for an inland passage. The tides are not strong so there really is no problem paddling against them (although better to be with them!). Small gravel beach from mid-tides, lots of rocks to perch on. 5 minutes to Stonington wherein lives the Stonington Opera which produces a plethora of inexpensive musical and non-musical, classical, pop, movies etc and great popcorn. Devote a couple of days to Acadia National Park and make sure you stop at the Jordon Pond House for popovers and tea before you return. The owner's response is accurate in every detail. My only point would be about launching a small boat. Make sure it is a light small boat (ie glass, inflatable). I have a wooden Beetle Cat sailboat and it would have been very difficult to launch, as it is wooden and heavy (although it is only 12'. ) The place would be great for kids, but it really takes a bit of life to realize just how special this place is!"

  • Family seeking a spacious location for 5 people in the vicinity of Acadia National Park.

"We were very appreciative of the helpful information provided by the owners to us prior to our arrival that helped us become familiar with the amenities in the area. When we arrived we discovered a bag of food items on the kitchen table as well as a container of fresh blueberries and a package of smoked salmon in the refrigerator that was a totally unexpected and much appreciated surprise. We also found a well organized packet of information with literature on different attractions in the area and a map of Deer Isle all of which was very helpful to enable us to get familiar with the area quickly. We found the kitchen to be the best equipped kitchen of any rental home that we had ever visited. We love to cook our own food, and it was like being at home with all of the appliances that were available at this home. The house was very spacious and the bedding was comfortable and well suited for our needs. The internet service was reliable and sufficiently broadband to meet our needs. The bath and shower facilities were convenient to the four bedrooms. This location was extremely quiet in the evening hours, which was great. We highly recommend this home for families that want to visit Maine. The hiking and kayaking are great. The owners are very helpful and go the extra mile to assure that your stay will be a memorable one."

  • Terrific to be "home" again in Stonington, ME

"What a terrific job Wilda and Richard have done in making Jack/Harriet Hemenway's workshops and showroom (which I remember so well) into an inviting, comfortable, welcoming vacation spot. They have thought of everything to make this a real "home away from home" vacation destination. Loved every minute of the time there."

  • A Perfect Slice of Heaven

"The Stonington Guest Cottage exceeded our expectaions. The space is delightful as were our hosts, Doug and Leslie. We found the cottage immaculate, spacious with fine amenities including fresh flowers picked from the lovely garden waiting for us as we arrived. Our week was a perfect mixture of relaxation, exploring the town and Deer Isle. We we took part in the local culture attending a dance at the Stonington Opera House and enjoying a string quartet and a quaint church. We hope that other guests will find the harbor view from the screened in porch and deck as romantic and peaceful as we did. Leslie gave us great restaurant tips and we found the restaurants very reasonable in price with delicious food. A perfect slice of heaven without the large numbers of tourists. Thank you Doug and Lesle for sharing your special cottage with us."
