  • What a great retreat!!

"We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Bass Terre! This house is in a beautiful spot - a private cove with amazing ocean vistas! The grounds are well kept with lots of flowers - a comfortable deck and only one distant neighbor. The house is over 100 years old but in great condition - bathrooms, appliances and cable TV all work just fine. The bedrooms and mattresses are good and with the silence and cool night breezes, we all slept like babies! The living/dining area is spacious and all 5 adults (of varying ages) were very comfortable there. If we get back to Maine and Bass Terre some day, we will definitely take our dogs - there's a huge garage attached to the house that works if they're wet or need to be confined while you're out and about. The owners provided an excellent list of restaurants and activities that we used daily to plan our outings. Acadia National Park is the highlight and we spent several days exploring different parts of the park - including the top of Cadillac Mountain, Loop Drive along the rocky shore, the popovers at Jordan Pond and several hikes around lakes. We found Bar Harbor to be a crowded tourist trap so we wandered through some of the smaller fishing village shops and restaurants. Southwest Harbor, Somesville and Northeast Harbor are all charming villages. We highly recommend seeing Asticou Gardens! But most of all, we enjoyed returning to Bass Terre in the evening and watching the sun set."

  • Everything we hoped for and more!

"My family had never visited Maine before but it was definitely on our bucket list. This year we decided to finally go. We are glad we did. Our first order of business was to find a place to stay and we chose this property. It was everything we had hoped for and everything the owners had adverstised. The home was spacious enough for our family of 7 adults and we actually could have comfortably had more people there due to the open floor plan. The home was super clean, well stocked with all the amenities needed. We loved the fact that it was far enough from downtown to enjoy the peace and quiet of the wooded lot, yet close enough to be in downtown Bar Harbor within 10 minutes. The owners were very responsive and extremely helpful in making our vacation a memorable one. I would highly recommend this property and would definitely return."

  • Memorable Home, Memorable Vacation!

"This home was the best! It really was everything we could want in a vacation home. The teens were having a fit about not going to the beach as usual, so they were a hard sell - but even they said this was one of the best vacations ever. Jennifer was extremely receptive to our questions (even the dumb ones). The house was located in a great spot close to Southwest Harbor. A main grocery store was at the bottom of the hill, and the town was minutes away by car. We were so glad we didn't stay in Bar Harbor - it is a lovely place, and we went there twice, but the crowds - forget it.... Southwest Harbor was quaint and had everything we needed. Good restaurants, ice cream, bike rentals and fairly close to all the places we wanted to visit on the Island. We were two families - we stuck the teens up in the bunk bedroom (top of A-frame). It wasn't until the 3rd day we realized there was a pool table in the basement! The porch which runs the length of the house was just gorgeous, looking out over the woods. There were a few homes up on our road, but you couldn't see them through the forest. The stars were amazing, especially from the hot tub. We were there the 2nd week of July and the weather was great - never had to use the AC, always a breeze... We called the house "our green cabin", but it was far from a cabin! I have done many vacation rentals over the years, and it was so refreshing to stay in a home that was really someone's vacation home - not an investment property with zero personal touches. Fun stuff we did on MDI: rented bikes and road around the ponds, having lunch at Jordan House (we timed the ride with help from bike store in SW Harbor and made reservations outside) - beautiful! We enjoyed sunset atop Cadillac Mt., after enjoying a lobster meal at one of the roadside lobster pounds (near north entrance to park). We spent an afternoon at Echo Lake for a "refreshing" swim. A special highlight was going to Sand Beach on the loop road, views were breathtaking. We took a lunch, left our stuff on the beach and hiked up and around Great Head Trail - a little challenging for some of us, but well worth it. I would highly recommend Eat a Pita restaurant for any meal in SW Harbor. My thanks to our hosts, and should we go Northeast - Downeast again, we will be sure to rent this special home."

  • Great place with amazing location!

"We stayed here with our two young children for a week while exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor for the first time. The cottage is beautifully decorated, clean, and very comfortable -- perfect for either a family or a couple looking for a get-away. The small garden and balcony are also very charming, and the neighbors are friendly (as are the owners). But most importantly, the location cannot be beat. Even with young children, we walked into town several times a day. Wonderful restaurants are close by (as are the farmer's market, playgrounds, etc.). The location is also a great base for exploring Acadia. We definitely plan to stay here again!"
