  • A Charming and Relaxing Couple's Retreat

"My husband and I wanted to experience authentic Maine "harbor life" and this was the perfect place. As former boat owners from the Puget Sound area, we greatly appreciated the sights, sounds, smells and rhythms of a working harbor full of lobster boats. We watched them from the expansive deck or the windows of the bright and cheery living room. The home exceeded our expectations. We stayed on the first floor which had been newly renovated. Everything was clean and shiny. The linens were top notch. The bed was fantastic. We slept like babies. The kitchen was well stocked so that we could cook at home when we felt like eating in although we enjoyed all three restaurants in town...all within a short walk. There was even a lobster pot for our use, although lobster prices were so reasonable that it didn't make much sense to go through the effort to cook them at home. Also, we appreciated having DirecTV and a DVR at our disposal. As far as the location of Stonington, it was perfect for us. Besides plenty of restaurants within walking distance, there was a market we walked to for a few staples. There is a much larger "supermarket" just a 10-15 minute drive out of town. The Opera House in town should not be missed. They play first run movies along with a few live performances. We were able to enjoy beautiful drives through the countryside as we visited Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, Bangor, and all the charming little towns in between. We golfed at the Island Country Club which is about a 20-minute drive away. Don't miss a drive, just about 15 minutes away from town, to eat at the Cockatoo Portuguese Restaurant. We found it accidentally following a tiny little sign on the way "home" one afternoon. Another "find" was the Poor Boy Gourmet restaurant in Bar Harbor. In summary, our week at this Stonington property was everything we had hoped for. We weren't disappointed with a thing. Again, it exceeded our expectations. Thank you for a great week."

  • Charming and intimate .....just as expected

"My husband and I stayed in the Dock House the week of Labor Day and really enjoyed it. Perfect for walks into town, rising with the sun and very intimate with this lobstering town. Just perfect for two people and we loved sleeping at night with the sliding glass door open to the sounds of the sea. Only one improvement needed..... the tv needs to be mounted on the wall of the sliding glass door, so it can be watched from the bed at night. And maybe some adirondack chairs on the deck. A great choice and the best small cottage in Stonington!"

  • Historic Property Enthralls

"This is a wonderfully updated Historic Maine "Camp" with huge windows running the entire oceanfront side along a full length deck. The floors are highly varnished hardwood which reminds one of the bright-wood on a sailing vessel. The interior is also varnished wood and the master is as large as a small cottage with a vaulted ceiling, and has a king bed and a wonderful northwest pacific area rug. It has all the electronic amenities including dish TV, wiFi etc. etc. The kitchen is fine as is the bath (a good pounding shower). Very easy to launch kayaks/canoe and one can also do the canoe trail that the ancient Micmoks used to for an inland passage. The tides are not strong so there really is no problem paddling against them (although better to be with them!). Small gravel beach from mid-tides, lots of rocks to perch on. 5 minutes to Stonington wherein lives the Stonington Opera which produces a plethora of inexpensive musical and non-musical, classical, pop, movies etc and great popcorn. Devote a couple of days to Acadia National Park and make sure you stop at the Jordon Pond House for popovers and tea before you return. The owner's response is accurate in every detail. My only point would be about launching a small boat. Make sure it is a light small boat (ie glass, inflatable). I have a wooden Beetle Cat sailboat and it would have been very difficult to launch, as it is wooden and heavy (although it is only 12'. ) The place would be great for kids, but it really takes a bit of life to realize just how special this place is!"

  • Just amazing in every way!

"This was our first time renting this amazing property, and our first visit to Stonington. It was the most wonderful vacation we have had in a long, long time. We have described it as living in a postcard for a week! We were a group of 7, ranging in age from 15 to 83. It is not easy to find a spot where such a broad age range is happy - but this is it. Every member of our party had a wonderful time - hiking, fishing, collecting shells, reading, watching lobster boats, sailboats and windjammers cruise by the house - just wonderful. The house was well equipped with books and games. The kitchen was big and homey, with lots of pots and pans, dishes - everything we needed to feel comfortable and at home. The views from inside and outside were amazing. I did not step out of the house 1 time the whole week without saying "This is just so gorgeous!". The other area I would be remiss in not mentioning is the privacy at this home. You are on a point, with no other houses in site. It is peaceful, beautiful and private as can be. Definitely gem tucked away by the sea. Wonderful!"
