"We were very appreciative of the helpful information provided by the owners to us prior to our arrival that helped us become familiar with the amenities in the area. When we arrived we discovered a bag of food items on the kitchen table as well as a container of fresh blueberries and a package of smoked salmon in the refrigerator that was a totally unexpected and much appreciated surprise. We also found a well organized packet of information with literature on different attractions in the area and a map of Deer Isle all of which was very helpful to enable us to get familiar with the area quickly. We found the kitchen to be the best equipped kitchen of any rental home that we had ever visited. We love to cook our own food, and it was like being at home with all of the appliances that were available at this home. The house was very spacious and the bedding was comfortable and well suited for our needs. The internet service was reliable and sufficiently broadband to meet our needs. The bath and shower facilities were convenient to the four bedrooms. This location was extremely quiet in the evening hours, which was great. We highly recommend this home for families that want to visit Maine. The hiking and kayaking are great. The owners are very helpful and go the extra mile to assure that your stay will be a memorable one."Guest: TN Ridgerunners Date of Stay: August 2012 Review Submitted: October 22, 2012View listing
"This was our first time renting this amazing property, and our first visit to Stonington. It was the most wonderful vacation we have had in a long, long time. We have described it as living in a postcard for a week! We were a group of 7, ranging in age from 15 to 83. It is not easy to find a spot where such a broad age range is happy - but this is it. Every member of our party had a wonderful time - hiking, fishing, collecting shells, reading, watching lobster boats, sailboats and windjammers cruise by the house - just wonderful. The house was well equipped with books and games. The kitchen was big and homey, with lots of pots and pans, dishes - everything we needed to feel comfortable and at home. The views from inside and outside were amazing. I did not step out of the house 1 time the whole week without saying "This is just so gorgeous!". The other area I would be remiss in not mentioning is the privacy at this home. You are on a point, with no other houses in site. It is peaceful, beautiful and private as can be. Definitely gem tucked away by the sea. Wonderful!"Guest: Kate A. Date of Stay: July 2014 Review Submitted: July 29, 2014View listing
"What a treat to stay in a rented property and have no unpleasant surprises. If only all VRBO would follow the McMillan example, renting wouldn't be the nightmare it so often is. We enjoyed a week in this beautiful location and could not have wished for more."Guest: anne r. Date of Stay: September 2013 Review Submitted: October 31, 2013View listing
"The location is ideal for a quiet, relaxing getaway on a beautiful and not-too-developed island. Almost any outdoor activity is available. Kayaking from the tidal cove is excellent, although you must be cognizant of the tide cycle unless you want to explore clam flats on your return. There are both close-by and distant paddling destinations, and Bald Eagles,Osprey and seals are frequently seen. It's also a good spot for bicycling, although the unpaved access road is not ideal for narrow-tire bikes, once the paved road is reached, the island offers many good cycling loops, as long as you avoid the most heavily used main road. Hiking trails on the island are available, but the most impressive hiking or mountain biking is on Isle au Haut, a 45 minute boat trip away. The description of other activities is accurate and this a great place for families, especially those with older kids. The cottage itself is very comfortable, beautifully designed and its a real pleasure just to relax there. The kitchen is efficient, well equipped and it's convenient to have a dishwasher and a clothes washer/dryer. There are a handful of restaurants on the island, but our favorites are on the mainland, a bit of a drive, but the wonderfully quirky El El Frijoles in Sargentville (not far from the suspension bridge) is fairly close and worth checking out. There is a good grocery store in Stonington, and wonderful farmer's markets on Weds and Friday mornings. The property is beautifully maintained, and the owners are helpful and responsive. This is about as good as the Maine coast gets."Guest: joe Date of Stay: June 2012 Review Submitted: August 1, 2012View listing
