  • Best kept secret on Mt. Desert

"This cabin was amazing and perfect for our family of 3. The view, the shoreline, the babbling brook, the seclusion, the creek, the "rustic cabin..where do I begin? We absolutely loved it! We felt like we were back at summer camp only in a nice log cabin with running water, hot water, electricity, comfortable beds. The bedrooms are on the creekside of the house attached to the log cabin side by a breezeway. That made it nice for those that want to sleep in to not be disturbed by the early riser. I hope we can come back again."

  • Great place!

"We (6 adults) came from Arizona, Virginia and Minnesota for a week of family fun. We found this house to have fabulous beds and a fantastic view. It's an attractive, comfortable home with a great kitchen too. We loved everything about it."

  • A wonderful retreat

"My husband and I spent a lovely week in the Chalet and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners provided everything we needed, including lobster pots and lots of dishes, cups and serving ware. Towels and blankets were plentiful. We especially enjoyed our early morning coffee on the deck watching the tide come in and the neighborhood clam diggers. The house was spacious, clean and well organized. I highly recommend this if you want a quiet, somewhat secluded place where relaxing is your top priority."

  • comfy and spacious

"We are enjoying our stay in this comfortable cottage. The view is great. Bass Harbor is quiet and low key and still allows you easy access to Acadia National Park, good restaurants and shopping. We appreciated the opportunity to stay in this well maintained cottage with our well traveled little dog. Enjoyed all the conveniences provided, the private parking and the wonderful deck."

Great Duck Island Travel Tips

Great Duck Island Vacation Rentals: See the Birds

Great Duck Island is owned by the Nature Conservancy and is run as a bird sanctuary. If your family enjoys watching and feeding birds, then Great Duck Island vacation rentals are a great place to stay on your family vacation. The Nature Conservancy and Audubon Society offer bird watching tours which are a great way to learn about different bird species. Plan your next vacation to Great Duck Island to see the birds.

Acadia Cottages Are Close to the Fun

If you want to visit Great Duck Island on your vacation, you will need to find a vacation rental near the island. There are Acadia cottages that put your family near enough to the island for a day excursion to the unique bird sanctuary. These Acadia cottages give your family access to a wide range of activities. Many of the cottages can be found close to Acadia National Park where you can go hiking and explore nature, as well as close to a lot of water activities like waterskiing, fishing, and sailing. There is very limited Great Duck Island lodging because the island is so small. You will need to book your vacation property well in advance to enjoy on location lodging.

Great Duck Island Lodging Offers Complete Privacy

Great Duck Island vacation rentals are a great place to take your family because there is so much land and shore to explore, yet the Island offers a relaxed retreat, free from worries. When visiting Great Duck Island, you will be able to see the famous lighthouse that was built in 1890. Although the lighthouse is not open to the public, it is still a historical site that is worth a visit. The island is so beautiful, with ocean views, green landscapes, and uncountable bird sightings, that it is a dream destination for photography lovers. Grab your camera and head to Great Duck Island.
