  • Fall Vacation at the Boat House

"The pictures of the interior of the Boat House were very accurate. The remodel of the home was tastefully done and up to date. The views of the harbor from the living room were spectacular. We stayed at the end of the season and it was a bit chilly. The heating system was a bit of an issue as the pipes banged at night which interrupted our sleep. We also new it was a working harbor but if you were a light sleeper the fishermen and boats would wake you up early in the morning. We are early risers so that was not an issue. The owners should also let guests know that there is a room attached to the house that harbor/marina folks use. That did startle us when we first heard people in the room. Some other improvements would be to update the linens and towels, connect tv to cable in the bed room , a vacuum cleaner, and to leave instructions on how to use the VCR. Aside from the few things we mentioned it was a nice place to stay."

  • Autumn Beauty in Bass Harbor

"We stayed at Ebb Tide this fall for a month and it wasn't long enough! The house is close to Acadia National Park with its natural beauty and activities.. It overlooks Bass Harbor with its 10 foot tides, yet it is secluded with tall pines, flowers, and rose bushes. The views form the privacy of our living room or outside Adirondack chairs was spectacular, especially at sunset. Our miniature poodle was well accepted by Rudy, the host dog. Shelley and Larry could not have been more thoughtful. Fresh flowers were in the house when we arrived and weekly thereafter. The kitchen is well equipped, the furniture is very comfortable and stylish. The house is open and airy with natural light. The second floor master bedroom has beautiful views of the harbor. The walkway from the parking area has a few stone steps downhill. Overall, we couldn't have picked a better spot, better weather, or better hosts than we experienced at Ebb Tide. We look forward to returning someday."

  • It was ‘Maine-ly’ about being together…and celebrating. We are grateful for the time and experience!

"It didn’t take us long to decide on a destination, Acadia National Park rose to the top of the list almost immediately. From all of our reading and research, it seemed to offer so many hiking and exploring opportunities and (even though it would take a while) some of us could drive. Finally, we would have a long-awaited vacation with our grown children—and we had a lot to celebrate. For this momentous occasion, we wanted a truly special place to stay…Devilstone Carriage/Guesthouse offered that! The VRBO description items that caught our attention instantly were “3 king-size beds, 4 baths, and short walk to town”—we would all have a commodious space and we could walk when we wanted to dine out. Although it sounded quite inviting, since we had never been to Bar Harbor we did not fully appreciate the “Shorepath seating”…we do now! Although one of us bicycled at times, we did need a car to travel the short distance to Acadia each day. (The free Island Explorer bus had not started running yet for the season.) However, we did not need all the stuff we packed (we hadn’t been on a ‘road trip’ in a while) because our home for the week was as “beautifully furnished and fully equipped” as described. We did not have the pleasure of meeting John, the owner, in person—but at every turn we felt his kind and gracious care. Before our visit he was patient and helpful as we pinned down many details. From the moment we stepped into his home—heard the melodious music and found the delicious food items he provided to get us started—we felt greeted and welcome. Through many strategically placed notes, John seemed to anticipate our questions. The written information and suggestions added to our ease and comfort. We also appreciated and took advantage of his restaurant recommendations—and agree they are great! In closing, we will offer this—in case the words “very private” didn’t pop out when you read the description. All around us there were things to do and see. We packed a lot of exhausting, exhilarating activity into each day as we visited Acadia National Park and in the evening the town of Bar Harbor is bustling with its many restaurants and shops. Still…in the morning when we would wake to the song sparrow or walk a few steps to sip our coffee and see the sunrise from the Shorepath…or in the evening when the noises of town would fall away with each step of our short walk towards ‘home’ we truly experienced the private, secluded peace of the place. Our trip was indeed a JOY!"

  • Bass Harbor Magic

"We were 7 friends all 70 and then some. Some of us had been to Bass Harbor before and for others this was a first. The house is charming and very well equipped, beds, kitchen, washer and dryer and best of all a great porch. The owners were most helpful in suggesting not to be missed sites and restaurants. Our favorite morning spot was Common Grounds, they serve the best popovers on the island, and coffee and old fashion oatmeal...not to be missed. The house allowed each of us together spaces and private space, which was needed for a 2 week vacation with car travel. I will recommend this house to any and all who plan to visit Mt Desert Island and Arcadia National Park. During the summer there is free bus service on the island and over to Ellsworth so its possible to enjoy Seamist cottage without a car."
