"We spent a week in early July at Danforth Cottage and had an absolutely wonderful time. The cottage is just so simple and so very comfortable. The location is fantastic. Could not have asked for a more wonderful location. We spent much of our time on the wonderful deck overlooking the beautiful Blue Hill Harbor. You can be in the sun if you wish but there are also some beautiful trees in the front of the house that help keep the deck cool and comfortable. And then there is the breeze off the water! We swam and kayaked right off the rocks and low tide beach in front of the cottage. We had ate at the cottage a few nights having lobster and grilled chicken. The Blue Hill Co-Op and Tradewinds grocery are great stores that are close by. We also had wonderful dinners out at both the Brooklin Inn and Arborvine. Our dinners at both restaurants were absolutely terrific. We are so looking forward to returning next year!"

  • What a great retreat!!

"We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Bass Terre! This house is in a beautiful spot - a private cove with amazing ocean vistas! The grounds are well kept with lots of flowers - a comfortable deck and only one distant neighbor. The house is over 100 years old but in great condition - bathrooms, appliances and cable TV all work just fine. The bedrooms and mattresses are good and with the silence and cool night breezes, we all slept like babies! The living/dining area is spacious and all 5 adults (of varying ages) were very comfortable there. If we get back to Maine and Bass Terre some day, we will definitely take our dogs - there's a huge garage attached to the house that works if they're wet or need to be confined while you're out and about. The owners provided an excellent list of restaurants and activities that we used daily to plan our outings. Acadia National Park is the highlight and we spent several days exploring different parts of the park - including the top of Cadillac Mountain, Loop Drive along the rocky shore, the popovers at Jordan Pond and several hikes around lakes. We found Bar Harbor to be a crowded tourist trap so we wandered through some of the smaller fishing village shops and restaurants. Southwest Harbor, Somesville and Northeast Harbor are all charming villages. We highly recommend seeing Asticou Gardens! But most of all, we enjoyed returning to Bass Terre in the evening and watching the sun set."

  • A real Maine experience

"We rented Edgehill for a week and hosted our wedding here. It is a beautiful home in a beautiful area on the Maine coast. We truly were able to give our guests a real Maine experience with a pig roast, live band and party in the barn, and campfires. The house comfortably slept almost 20 friends and family, including two infants. The house has a gorgeous porch, a sleeping porch, a nature path leading to a scenic pond, a huge barn fitting for a party or wedding reception, and a beautiful backyard complete with a campfire pit that's perfect for yard games. Our only complaints from our guests were that the beds were quite uncomfortable and while the house does sleep lots of people, there are only two toilets. The owner was professional, prompt with communication and questions, flexible, and friendly. I would highly recommend this site for a truly rustic Maine farmhouse/barm wedding or vacation."

  • Time to Breathe

"I have been coming to Keyhole Cottage for many years; the last time three years ago with my wife, who died less than a year later. This was the first year I've been back since then. Keyhole Cottage is a place to take time to breathe; to sit and listen and watch without the interruption of television; though there is wifi and so you can always check the news if you really want to. Since you are in the midst of Acadia National Park you are close to all the attractions that that wonderful place has to offer: hiking, bicycling etc. You can see the sunrise from Cadillac Mt, or you can walk a hundred yards to your own beach and to do the same. The accomodations are more than adequate and the cottage has a nice deck with the keyhole view of the water.A great place to be."
