"A smile of delight spread across my face as I walked up to the front door - you immediately see through the house to the view of the water. The Down East Cottage definitely exceeded mine and my husband's expectations. As others have stated, the pictures do not do it justice! We loved the wooded setting. Everything we needed to make our stay comfortable was provided. The home was so relaxing it was hard to leave each day. The location is secluded yet wonderfully situated for easy access to the Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park area. It was such fun to explore all the parts of the island - quaint harbor towns like Southwest and Northeast Harbor. We loved hiking a few of the trails in the park - the weather was gorgeous! I think we had a lobster roll just about every day. Kayaking right outside the backdoor was a lot of fun - these were part of the house also. One morning when we were sitting by the water, it was low tide and a couple of veteran clammers came across digging and putting their clams in the buckets. The people were so friendly in the area - we
stopped to buy fresh lobster on the way to the house and upon hearing we were going back into town to buy corn and potatoes, they invited us to help ourselves to their garden! Watching the sunset by the fire pit was a neat way to end our days - the last night we made s'mores. Shirley and George couldn't have been more helpful as we made our arrangements for the trip. Lots of tips and pointers about fun and interesting things to do while we were there. All in all, our trip to the Down East cottage was everything we had hoped it would be and then some!"

"Our first stay at this cottage -- we (a retired couple) were delighted. It fit our strategy of being close to civilization (20 minutes to Acadia, 25 to Bar Harbor) without the busy-ness or congestion. Laura is promptly responsive; this artistically decorated cottage is well-stocked. Photographers please note this cottage faces east so you get "golden hour" sunrise light over a classic tidal cove. Same concept for sleeper Lemoine State Park and nearby Blunt's Pond. First timers - I recommend not arriving after sunset as the surrounding thick cluster of trees in the final 100 yards to the cottage presents a worthy challenge to any visually impaired navigator. Second time is a breeze."

"This cabin really feels like a home-- with the kitchen ready for cooking. The setting is superb-- a quiet bay. Maybe out favorite place to stay. Close to everything, yet set away from the world. we had a great time.
Be sure to ask for the directions again if she doesn't send them."

"The location of the cottage was perfect. It was in the center of all the sight seeing we wanted to visit. The view of the water and the mountains were so beautiful. The water so clean. We met the locals and they were so friendly. We enjoyed talking to Ivy and Dick. They were great hosts. This is a vacation my husband and I will never forget."
