"The Down East Cottage is an absolutely lovely home and exceeded our expectations in every way for our family vacation in Maine...the setting is more breathtaking than the photos capture! The cottage is pristine and is the perfect location to access MDI/Acadia and we also had a fantastic experience right around the corner at Lamoine beach finding starfish, quahog and razor clams, eels, and more...our kids had a blast! We enjoyed making s'mores and sitting by the fire pit, playing family games, listening to records, and watching movies after long, action-packed excursions in Acadia, Bar Harbor and beyond. Other favorites included discovering the Bar Harbor Farmer's Market on Sunday morning, popovers and hiking at Jordan Pond, Bass Harbor Lighthouse/Trail, Thurston's Lobster Pound (wow!), shopping in Southwest Harbor, and Echo Lake/Cadillac Mountain adventures. We created countless memories at this lovely home in Maine. Shirley and George are extremely responsive owners, easy to communicate with, and extremely thoughtful as they even had a welcome gift to greet us when we arrived. I would highly recommend this property for anyone wanting to experience everything Bar Harbor/Acadia has to offer, while simultaneously enjoying the privacy and solace of a secluded, beautiful waterfront property."Guest: Melissa S. "My husband, 11-year-old daughter and I spent a week at the end of August at this cottage. We had compared a lot of houses on Mount Desert Island before selecting this one. We were not disappointed. The cottage is spotlessly clean, well-stocked and comfortable. The master is a large size. The second bedroom is cozy and has a terrific view. The deck was our favorite place to relax after a busy day of hiking/sailing/rock-climbing. It is about a 15-20 minute drive into Bar Harbor. Very peaceful. The washer/dryer was convenient. The kitchen is fully stocked. It even had a coffee grinder! We have rented houses before and never had such a nicely stocked kitchen. Wi-Fi is good. The upstairs great room was a great place to relax and watch TV in the evening. It was removed enough that it did not disturb anyone who wanted to turn in early. The listing description and photos are accurate. Our hosts were gracious, friendly and helpful. Their recommendations and suggestions made our stay better. They recommended the Seafood Ketch in Bass Harbor. We enjoyed it so much we went back on our last day in Bar Harbor. I highly recommend this rental."Guest: martins Date of Stay: August 2014 Review Submitted: September 1, 2014View listing
"When we were looking for a place to stay in Bar Harbor and found this home we were slightly concerned about the lack of recent reviews but decided to give it a try anyway. I am so glad we did! This home is in a great location close to Acadia, downtown, and hiking trails. We walked into town everyday and also hiked and biked right from the property. Since we were there at a busy time for tourist, when we did drive into town it was a challenge to find a parking space but we were always able to do so. It was so nice to come back to a quiet home after spending time in town! We had 4 adults in our party, and there was plenty of space in the home. We only cooked dinner in one evening, but we could have easily done so every night since the kitchen was so well stocked. The Barkers have many staples in the home that we have had to buy at the store when renting other places such as paper towels, toilet paper, coffee filters, spices and so on. They even left 2 cold locally brewed blueberry beers with frosted mugs in the refrigerator ready for our arrival! We had one extremely minor problem with the dryer and Mr. Barker came right over when we called. We highly recommend a trip to Bar Harbor and that you stay at the Northridge Townhouse when you are there. You will not be disappointed."Guest: Karen B. "We stayed here with our two young children for a week while exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor for the first time. The cottage is beautifully decorated, clean, and very comfortable -- perfect for either a family or a couple looking for a get-away. The small garden and balcony are also very charming, and the neighbors are friendly (as are the owners). But most importantly, the location cannot be beat. Even with young children, we walked into town several times a day. Wonderful restaurants are close by (as are the farmer's market, playgrounds, etc.). The location is also a great base for exploring Acadia. We definitely plan to stay here again!"Guest: Yaron R. Date of Stay: August 2014 Review Submitted: September 14, 2014View listing
Bar Harbor Travel Tips
Get Away to One of the Gems of New England: Bar Harbor Vacation Rentals
In travel guides and books about vacation spots in North America, Bar Harbor is regularly touted as one of the best places to visit and vacation. For this reason, there are many Bar Harbor vacation rentals for people who are interested in Bar Harbor travel.
Bar Harbor travel includes experiences along a rocky coast line and view of magnificent granite cliffs. Bar Harbor is located on the east side of Mount Desert Island. One of the best things about Mount Desert Island lodging and Bar Harbor vacation rentals is that they give vacationers access to Acadia National Park.
Bar Harbor Travel: Live Like Royalty Without Spending Like Royalty
One of the best things about Bar Harbor vacation rentals is how affordable many of them are. In fact. It is quite common for vacationers to get a better deal on Bar Harbor vacation rentals than on other sorts of Mount Desert Island lodging such as hotels.
Here are a few things to consider. When staying in a hotel, you are not able to cook your own meals. In order to have access to even a kitchenette, you'll have to pay extra. And even kitchenettes are not usually sufficient to cook full meals. In Mount Desert Island lodging options such as vacation rentals, fully equipped kitchens are standard. This means that renters don't have to spend an arm and a leg paying for every meal in restaurants.
Also, laundry service in hotels is usually incredibly expensive. For those who plan to hike, bike, boat, and swim, laundry might be necessary. Doing a load of laundry in a vacation rental is as easy as 1-2-3 and won't cost you a thing as the laundry facilities are a standard part of most vacation rentals.
