"My wife and I had a very enjoyable stay at this cottage. It is perfect for two people looking for a home base to virtually anywhere on Mt. Desert Island. The kitchen was very well equipped with anything a traveler may need (the coffee filters were particularly appreciated). We found the patio to be quite lovely in the morning and a nice way to rest weary legs at the end of the day. A few items that are important to note for future visitors. First, the cottage is on Rt. 102, which means there is some car noise from 6:00 am until early evening. Rt. 102 has a limited shoulder and is not suitable for safe running/walking, in my opinion. Second, the bedroom faces east, making it rather bright in the morning even with a shade and blinds. The final point is not related to the cottage though worth noting. Bass Harbor is remotely located relative to the rest of the island. Southwest Harbor is less than 5 minutes away, but Bar Harbor can be as much as 45 minutes with traffic. Overall, a great place for a couple looking to get away from it all and take in the pleasures of the quiet side (be sure to go over to Seawall with a bottle of wine and some cheese, it's totally legal!)."

"We arrived on Sunday evening and could not have been more excited about our drive to Bass Harbor. Our vacation rental was located in a large historic home owned by Barb and Bill Evans. The house was constructed in the mid 1800's. The home is been sectioned off converting the back half into its own private living quarters. This charming rental has a very large kitchen, two bedrooms, two baths, living and laundry room. The rental is complete with wifi and cable tv. The best asset of the home are the owners Barb and Bill Evans. Barb and Bill have been living at their summer home for the past 27 years. They have a wealth of knowledge about the local establishments and historic parts of Mt. Desert Island and Acadia. Fresh lobsters can be purchased across the street, and if you need help, Bill graciously volunteers his time to show you how to prepare them. Bass Harbor is a beautiful, picturesque harbor town. As you look out across the bay you see what you have always imagined....lobster boats, lobster buoys, sailboats, and boat docks. The village homes are complimented by landscaping arrangements full of a vast variety of delightful wild flowers. Across the harbor you can see the town of Bernard nestled on a hill displaying it's own small town charm. The best thing about Bass Harbor is that it is removed from all of the hustle and bustle found in the other harbor town communities on Mt. Desert Island. It is so much more relaxing than having to deal with the traffic and commercialism found in the nearby towns. After you have had a day out touring Acadia National Park, Bass Harbor, Southwest Harbor and Northeast Harbor you can come back to Barb and Bill Evan's rental for a relaxing evening, take a walk around the bay, or eat at the Seafood Katch. I would not stay anywhere else....hoping to return for another great vacation!"

Wonderful House , great location and fantastic owners!
"My husband and I had a rental in Bar Harbor double book us , letting us know about it last minute. We had to scramble to find a place to stay and thankfully this fantastic place happened to have an opening for the four days we needed. I can't say enough about the owners here. Jan was so accommodating and such a pleasure to talk to. There is also a restaurant they owned literally down the drive of the home that was delicious and perfect to have so close by. The home was spotless and decorated giving it a very homey feel. Usually we ALWAYS bring our own bed linens on our vacations but this is the first time we didn't use them because we completely trusted that everything was clean and comfy. Jan gave us great suggestions for our time there and we were pinching ourselves to be staying in such a nice place with such a beautiful view of the ocean from the upper deck. We have never stayed in the same place twice but if we go back to Maine I will be booking this place again well in advance, we adored it so. Thank you Jan and Karen for making our anniversary vacation so perfect !

"My husband, son and I had a wonderful time at the Elvin's Chalet. You really do not need to bring anything with you except beach towels and that is TRUE! We spent many of our hours out on the back deck basking in the beautiful view of the harbor. We spent our week crawling all over Mt. Desert island. This was our first time staying on the quiet side, and I have found that Southwest Harbor is one of my new favorites. The chalet is an easy drive to anywhere on the island, and just a 5 minute drive (if that) to the Bass Harbor lighthouse. One early evening, we were able to see 2 little fawns coming up the property! What a nice added touch! The bedrooms are very accommodating, and the bed in the master bedroom was SOOO comfy. My husband and I are still missing the comfy bed, and wonderful breezes that come through the house from the harbor. This rental is a must. The owners are wonderful, and little touches in the house were so thoughtful all over. My 19 year old son was happy there was Wi-Fi, and I was in love with the kitchen and huge dinner table. You will not be disappointed by this chalet. We cannot wait to come back again. Missing Maine already."
