Return Visit to a Slice of Heaven!
"This house is truly a favorite of mine. This was an overdue return visit since I kept remembering the view and lovely town and have been wishing to return. And it didn't disappoint!
Every time I walk into the living room, every bit of tension just melts away when I see the wall of windows with that black blue water peeking through the trees. I can only imagine that someone must have planned the grounds perfectly to provide lovely yet natural looking flowers, shrubs, and flora and skillfully placed trees that allow for an incredible view without sacrificing privacy. Just a perfect location since it is only moments to Southwest Harbor yet you feel like you are a million miles from everything. Great star watching at night by the way.
In my previous review, I cited how well stocked the house is, and if anything, I think the house is even better stocked than last time; Tons of kitchen utensils, cookware, dishes, even books and games. It also has good, reliable internet. The owners are as helpful as can be. This place is very versatile and perfect for a family get away since it is kid friendly with lots of chairs for seating at the huge granite kitchen Island or the long harvest style dining table, or great for a romantic getaway or a girls weekend. I do like the fact it is so nice and quiet but yet Bar Harbor is only a short drive away."

"We were 2 60-somethings and 3 young adults. We knew Mount Desert Island from previous weekend trips to Maine, but we'd always stayed in a hotel in Bar Harbor. This was a much better plan. The house was perfect for us. We spent our trip hiking in Acadia. So happy to be away from the tourist crush in Bar Harbor, yet within an easy drive of the park and all of Mount Desert's restaurants. The layout of good kitchen plus dining and living areas meant we had plenty of space to hang out together."

"My extended family stayed a week at the Captain Nathan Clark house and we found it an ideal location for our family reunion. The house itself is historic and beautiful, and with it's innumerable additions and remodels over many decades it has a funky charm as well. We found it as comfortable as an old shoe! It actually has two kitchens (which we designated as "food" and "beverage") 2 family rooms, as well as a formal dining room with a view of the harbor. The layout allows for many people to cook and eat together, but also to find space to spread out and find peace and quiet. There are two different outside porch areas and extensive yards and gardens. My teenage kids enjoyed the fascinating old books and great collection of games and puzzles.
It is only a 1 minute walk to Beal's Lobster Pier, where we ate MANY times during the week (and also watched an amazing fireworks display on the Fourth), and an easy stroll into town. A great surprise and wonderful addition to town is the Common Good Cafe, where for a donation to the local soup kitchen you can eat your fill of the BEST popovers on the island (Sorry, Jordan Pond House!). Another nice surprise: just a very short walk up the side street to the lovely grounds of the Claremont Hotel and Xanthus restaurant and dockside cocktail bar. It was nice to be staying in the relative tranquility of Southwest Harbor with bustling Bar Harbor being still just a short drive away. Southwest Harbor is real "working water" with fishing boats, Coast Guard and more. It was a great reunion and we will be back!"

"There are so many wonderful things to say about Diamond Rock! The 2 master suites and 3 1/2 bathrooms were perfect for the 5 of us (2 couples & our single 25 year old daughter) and there were 2 bedrooms to spare! The natural light that fills this house was wonderful! This beautiful home is spacious - giving the early risers a place to sip their coffee & talk without waking the others. The air conditioning was a welcome amenity! Living room had plenty of seating for the 5 of us. We put the game table to good use in the evening and had plenty of room around the dining room table to eat and plan the days excursion. Loved the fact that the kitchen was open to the living room so no one was excluded from conversations. Quality built home (wood trim warm & inviting), tastefully decorated, very clean, extra pillows & blankets, kitchen had all the essentials, and property well maintained. The washer & dryer high quality & looked new, centrally located to all bedrooms. House surrounded by beautiful trees but you can still see the ocean. Upper deck wraps around & lower deck has a clothesline. Such a quiet location - totally relaxing! Appreciated the wireless, especially when our security alarm went off at home - we were able to logon right away to see which sensor went off. The bedrooms are spacious - so nice to be able to unpack & have room to move around. The whole house is layed out so well! This home is in a great location - secluded but close to downtown southwest harbor & a short drive to Bar Harbor. The owner gave timely replies to questions and made many great recommendations for grocery shopping, dining and activities - a huge & much appreciated help to us as first timers to MDI. Two bouqets of fresh flowers greeted us when we walked in & we enjoyed them all week. The weather was wonderful every day we were in town so we weren't 'home' much but had it rained we would have been quite comfortable lounging around the house and would have used the TV and DVD player. It is without reservation we recommend Diamond Rock to you!"
