  • Clean & comfortable

"Our family stayed here during our 1st trip to Maine. The house was very clean and nicely decorated. The beds were all comfortable and the kitchen had pretty much everything you needed if you decided to cook while there. It was nice to have a comfortable, quiet place to go to at the end of the day after being busy exploring all of MDI during the day. There were some great restaurants in town and all the major attractions are within 1/2 hour away."

  • Great time at rooster cottage

"Rooster cottage was a beautiful little home for us. Not too rustic, not too posh-- just right. The kids loved feeding seagulls from the dock and we even went swimming in the chilly water off the dock. Scrambling down to the rocky shore beneath the dock is rather tricky with small children, but we had fun looking for crabs and finding shells nonetheless. Southwest Harbour is a beautiful little town to explore. The harbour view from the cottage is outstanding whether viewed in morning mist, bright sunshine, evening twilight, or moonlight. Boats are on their way in and out at all times. There is just too much to do on the island in one week! We'll have to go back."

  • Great location!

"We flew in from Texas and Florida to Boston and drove up to Maine to celebrate our mother's 73rd birthday. The drive up was very easy and worth the savings in the flight price. We rented from Budget Car Rental, which is not our usual place, but the coupon was too good to pass up. The line was 1 1/2 hours - not fun. But we were very happy with the SUV we got. It was very comfortable and got good gas mileage. We stopped in Newburyport for lunch, as a family member recommended we stop there. We were so glad they did, we loved this small town. Lunch was great. This was our first visit to Maine and we had an amazing time. The house was as listed/described. The owner was wonderful to work with. The house was spotless when we arrived and perfect for our group of 8 people. While we were there our kids fished off the dock across the street most every night, we hiked many times in Acadia National Park (a national treasure), visited Bar Harbor, and enjoyed the amazing restaurants. We were happy to be in Southwest Harbor instead of Bar Harbor for a little more quiet stay. The view off of the deck is beautiful and relaxing. We spent a lot of time on the deck catching up. We also had fun playing the family games they had, indoor and outdoor. The kitchen was well stocked to cook with and the grocery stores are great. This is the second house we have rented through VRBO. The first one was in Carmel, CA, and it was perfect. We were there in March 2013. The weather in March was lovely as was the weather in Maine. Sunny every day. Thank you for sharing this house! Mom's birthday was a special one."

  • Great Family Experience

"Our family of 9 adults and one 2 year old spent a week at Aleria. It was fabulous. The house was roomy and comfortable, the kitchen was well-equipped and the location was excellent. It was the perfect base for outside activities in Acadia National Park, and evenings were spent enjoying the warmth of the fireplace and movies on the TV. Every one of us enjoyed this experience thoroughly and we are already talking about when we can do it again. The owner was a pleasure to deal with. He responded to e-mail and phone messages and gave good advice about restaurants, hiking, boating and biking. We found our way around easily and felt completely comfortable in the area. One note: try to arrive in daylight--it is a bit harder to find the house at night and took us two passes. After that it was simple."
