A lot to like here
"This cottage is thoughtfully furnished and equipped for the traveler's comfort. Good beds, charming rooms, Wi-Fi, well stocked kitchen, a week's supply of everything one might need from sunscreen to coffee filters to laundry detergent make it an exceptional value. The thoughtful hostess is nearby to help with any problems. There are a few negatives--house is close to a road so we had to keep our dogs leashed when the front door opened, and there is no water view. However, the level of comfort of this accommodation, in a place with so many wonderful activities, makes this a great vacation place."

"My husband and 14 year old spent a week here, our first visit to Acadia. The pictures just do not do this jewel of a home justice. What an enchanting place. Beautifully remodeling of this 1903 family home, complete with evidence of family love and nurturing, where you can look in every nook and cranny and find the owners' personal touches providing everything anyone could ever need or want. Waking up in the huge master bedroom with the view of the harbor made me feel like I never wanted to leave the room. A incredibly well appointed kitchen also with every item you could ever want or need. The great room leading out to the spacious deck was heavenly. And let's not forget the grounds. Front back and sides all lsndscaped beautifully. The care taken in this property totally exceeded my expectations. Oh- and the bookshelves! I wanted to read every book in the house! I not only loved the house, but felt a closeness with the family that owns it. Just the way they have everything as I would in my own home and the added details that they took care in providing to make it a comfortable and relaxing vacation made this one of the best rental experiences ever.
A word of caution - this is a home that you do not want to treat thoughtlessly - if you do not take care, it would be a terrible shame to see this home "trashed". It is a pristine jewel and we tried to care for it as if it were our own.
As for the location, we loved being on the quiet side of the island, driving around was part of the fun. I would only say the only complaint I have about our vacation was that if we came back i would have to buy my own lobsters and cook them myself. I could not find a hard shelled lobster (so late in the season I suppose- we learned a great deal about the lobster trade, having done two tours) and I felt the restaurants were overpriced. To boot, I often do buy my own lobsters, and I really questioned the how they pass off chicken lobsters as pound and 1/2s. Other than that, everything we did, from relaxing at the house to all the adventures around the island, made this a great vacation! Thank you Reine and Bill and the rest of your family for sharing your home with us!!! Laura and Kevin"

Unforgettable Stay in this Gem of a Rental in Enchanting Southwest Harbor
"We had the pleasure of staying in Starboard II on our first visit to Mount Desert Island. Having rented with VRBO over 10 times, we count on these reviews in our decision-making. This is a candid and unbiased review. My family (two adults and three children ages 10 - 16) and our friends with children the same age (10 in total) rented in July on our first trip to Maine. We chose the Southwest Harbor to have a more authentic "Maine" experience, away from the crowds in Bar Harbor. It was a great decision. This lovely home is right on the water. In addition to being bright, spotless and surprising roomy (I feared from the photos that it would be too tight for our clans), the outdoor space (patio, deck, yard and dock) were delightful. Everything exceed our expectations. We had coffee on the deck every morning before a stunning view, including the boats in the quiet harbor. When the teens woke, we would use the owners kayaks around the harbor and then walk to one of several excellent breakfast spots. Starboard II is a short 20 min drive to Acadia, Bar Harbor and Northeast harbor. The house is FULLY stocked with everything we needed. It was so convenient to have a large washer/dryer and two kitchenettes. Within walking distance of this lovely home are fantastic restaurants (including one of the best lobster spots on the island), bakeries, an ice cream parlor, bike rental shops, fantastic bars and boat/ferry docks and rental shops. Instead of renting bikes in busy Bar Harbor, we rented them in town and drove all around Southwest Harbor, including a scenic trip along the water to a charming lighthouse. Perhaps the highlight of our trip was a private, sunset lobster boat charter from a dock that we WALKED TO from Starboard II. We found the brochure amount a large basket in the sunny Starboard living room. Our kids delighted in the captain's stories and we even pulled up his lobster traps to find several good catches inside. The owners (who live in an attached, but separate part of the residence) were in no way intrusive, but only helpful -- especially when helping us locate a packages of belongings left behind on our trip that were shipped to their residence. When you rent a home, there is almost always something you discover that disappoints. That was not the case at Starboard II. Everything from the water pressure in the showers to the comfort of the mattresses/sheets, surplus of towels, etc. exceeded expectations. We will always remember our stay here."

"My husband and I spent a week at the Knollette and it was absolutely perfect. The house itself is very well-appointed - comfortable, attractive, cozy, with everything we needed. It was a great place to come home to after canoeing, hiking, and eating lobster (LOTS of lobster). The size and space were perfect for the two of us and all our gear (including bike and canoe). And the location is spot on. The house itself, located in a wooded section of a dead-end road near the causeway, feels very private, but it is within easy walking distance of Beal's Lobster Pier (did I mention lobster?) as well as the great restaurants in Southwest Harbor. It was close to all the places we wanted to hike and paddle, and the ability to walk to town for dinner and ice cream made every evening so relaxing. Really, the perfect vacation rental."
