Very clean charming waterfront home that fit our family well. Pet Friendly too!
"We loved all the room to spread out and the large yard for our dog to be able to run and get some exercise too!
The house is very clean and well stocked. We found everything we needed. There are two bedrooms upstairs and one bath. Downstairs is another bath, mud room, laundry room, living room/dining and a den. The furniture is comfortable and everything makes you feel right at home in "Maine".
The only reason this didn't get a perfect 5 star rating from us was because of the closeness to the slightly busy street and the noise you hear very early in the AM from the lobster boats/fisherman. This is of no fault of the house or owner - and may not bother many. But, for us as light sleepers we had a few rough spots in our sleep.
The views from the dining room and deck are amazing - we had a couple gorgeous sunsets similar the picture posted above. We brought high end kayaks and felt ok about leaving them beside the garage. It was great to load the kayak right into the harbor at the edge of the lawn- very convenient. We kayaked once at Echo lake but, mostly just paddled throughout the harbor and explored a little island.
There a few restaurants down the street in 'town' and if you cross the harbor you find Thurstons- this place proved to be WAY too busy for us as many were lined up outside - not a good choice if you have a child... Southwest harbor a quick 10 min drive away has many more restaurants.
We brought our dog along and he loved laying on the deck - there was a handy hose near the deck which was useful to wash the dog after a swim or a walk along the shore.
Do be prepared for bugs - we used bug spray almost every night and I brought a citronella candle which we used as well.
The shore is tidal and you can walk out quite a distance - we walked the shore daily and found many "treasures". My son became addicted to finding "sea glass" - I had to explain that the broken fresh glass is just trash and to look for only the frosted kind... let's just say we had a lot of "extra" LOL - but, my one of favorite things to do since being a child and visiting my grandparents in Searsport...
If you want to explore Acadia and the Down East - but don't want the hussle bussle of Bar Harbor then this would be a good option for you. We prefer quite nights and peaceful surroundings.
Paul, the owner is very accommodating and very quick with any questions/concerns you may have.
Thank you for sharing your vacation home with us!"

"We stayed here with our two young children for a week while exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor for the first time. The cottage is beautifully decorated, clean, and very comfortable -- perfect for either a family or a couple looking for a get-away. The small garden and balcony are also very charming, and the neighbors are friendly (as are the owners). But most importantly, the location cannot be beat. Even with young children, we walked into town several times a day. Wonderful restaurants are close by (as are the farmer's market, playgrounds, etc.). The location is also a great base for exploring Acadia. We definitely plan to stay here again!"

"This home was the best! It really was everything we could want in a vacation home. The teens were having a fit about not going to the beach as usual, so they were a hard sell - but even they said this was one of the best vacations ever. Jennifer was extremely receptive to our questions (even the dumb ones). The house was located in a great spot close to Southwest Harbor. A main grocery store was at the bottom of the hill, and the town was minutes away by car. We were so glad we didn't stay in Bar Harbor - it is a lovely place, and we went there twice, but the crowds - forget it.... Southwest Harbor was quaint and had everything we needed. Good restaurants, ice cream, bike rentals and fairly close to all the places we wanted to visit on the Island. We were two families - we stuck the teens up in the bunk bedroom (top of A-frame). It wasn't until the 3rd day we realized there was a pool table in the basement! The porch which runs the length of the house was just gorgeous, looking out over the woods. There were a few homes up on our road, but you couldn't see them through the forest. The stars were amazing, especially from the hot tub. We were there the 2nd week of July and the weather was great - never had to use the AC, always a breeze... We called the house "our green cabin", but it was far from a cabin! I have done many vacation rentals over the years, and it was so refreshing to stay in a home that was really someone's vacation home - not an investment property with zero personal touches. Fun stuff we did on MDI: rented bikes and road around the ponds, having lunch at Jordan House (we timed the ride with help from bike store in SW Harbor and made reservations outside) - beautiful! We enjoyed sunset atop Cadillac Mt., after enjoying a lobster meal at one of the roadside lobster pounds (near north entrance to park). We spent an afternoon at Echo Lake for a "refreshing" swim. A special highlight was going to Sand Beach on the loop road, views were breathtaking. We took a lunch, left our stuff on the beach and hiked up and around Great Head Trail - a little challenging for some of us, but well worth it. I would highly recommend Eat a Pita restaurant for any meal in SW Harbor. My thanks to our hosts, and should we go Northeast - Downeast again, we will be sure to rent this special home."

"We (6 adults) came from Arizona, Virginia and Minnesota for a week of family fun. We found this house to have fabulous beds and a fantastic view. It's an attractive, comfortable home with a great kitchen too. We loved everything about it."
