  • Comfortable, full-stocked cottage with wonderful views

"My husband, 11-year-old daughter and I spent a week at the end of August at this cottage. We had compared a lot of houses on Mount Desert Island before selecting this one. We were not disappointed. The cottage is spotlessly clean, well-stocked and comfortable. The master is a large size. The second bedroom is cozy and has a terrific view. The deck was our favorite place to relax after a busy day of hiking/sailing/rock-climbing. It is about a 15-20 minute drive into Bar Harbor. Very peaceful. The washer/dryer was convenient. The kitchen is fully stocked. It even had a coffee grinder! We have rented houses before and never had such a nicely stocked kitchen. Wi-Fi is good. The upstairs great room was a great place to relax and watch TV in the evening. It was removed enough that it did not disturb anyone who wanted to turn in early. The listing description and photos are accurate. Our hosts were gracious, friendly and helpful. Their recommendations and suggestions made our stay better. They recommended the Seafood Ketch in Bass Harbor. We enjoyed it so much we went back on our last day in Bar Harbor. I highly recommend this rental."

  • Breathtaking, Beautiful

"Breathtaking even with 7 feet of snow... incredible skiing in acadia national park... This owner had the home spotless, and is the best we have ever seen on the coast in maine.. activities everywhere if you are an outdoor person... Restaurants down the way you can walk to. This is better than the photos and the description, it is really underpriced - we have stayed at alot worse and paid more...Linens were great, soaps provided even down to the laundry soap... ( no one else does that on this island- we know we come every year).. We are making this home our new found stop. The owners went above and beyond."

  • Beautiful house and ideal location in Southwest Harbor

"We have spent three weeks at Wesley House for each of the past four summers (2011-14), and returned for a brief visit this past winter (2015). On several previous visits to MDI, we'd kept driving into Southwest Harbor for one reason and another. Once we’d identified Southwest Harbor as our favorite place on the island, we decided to stay there. Wesley House is in an excellent location – especially for a family; a grocery store, a bakery / pizzeria, an ice cream parlor (great destination for kids who want a safe, independent adventure), and some fine little restaurants are all within easy walking distance. Each of two town docks is within five minutes’ drive, a short bike ride, or a pleasant walk. A pond about a quarter-mile from the house teems with frogs in summer, and becomes the town skating rink in winter. There is an excellent bike shop – offering rentals, sales, and service – about a half-block from the house. Wesley House itself is by far the most pleasant, comfortable home we have ever rented for a vacation stay. The house is immaculately clean, and simply but beautifully furnished – maximal comfort, minimal clutter. We especially love the window seats in the kitchen and front foyer; great places to curl up and read! The kitchen is amply stocked and supremely functional; one of the owners is a chef, and it shows. You can really cook here, and we do: great, memorable feasts, built around the mackerel and squid that my husband and kids catch at the dock, locally caught scallops and lobster, vegetables from the farmers’ market and nearby organic farm, and blueberries – some already baked into the excellent pies sold at Sawyer’s Market, some loose, with sour cream and brown sugar . . .. There is a porch deck with a good, working grill, which we also use to cook; a lovely little backyard, ringed with trees; and a small front yard with a rope swing, which our kids love. We do a lot of biking in Acadia when we’re on MDI, and are able to store our bikes in the basement (entered through a door adjacent to the driveway). The bedrooms are comfortably cool at night, and for the occasional August evening with a hint of autumn in the air, there’s a working fireplace and a good stock of firewood. As for the owners: we cannot imagine better, more attentive hosts. They have been extraordinarily helpful – eager to share the wonders of a place they clearly love, and generous with their time and suggestions."

  • What a great retreat!!

"We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Bass Terre! This house is in a beautiful spot - a private cove with amazing ocean vistas! The grounds are well kept with lots of flowers - a comfortable deck and only one distant neighbor. The house is over 100 years old but in great condition - bathrooms, appliances and cable TV all work just fine. The bedrooms and mattresses are good and with the silence and cool night breezes, we all slept like babies! The living/dining area is spacious and all 5 adults (of varying ages) were very comfortable there. If we get back to Maine and Bass Terre some day, we will definitely take our dogs - there's a huge garage attached to the house that works if they're wet or need to be confined while you're out and about. The owners provided an excellent list of restaurants and activities that we used daily to plan our outings. Acadia National Park is the highlight and we spent several days exploring different parts of the park - including the top of Cadillac Mountain, Loop Drive along the rocky shore, the popovers at Jordan Pond and several hikes around lakes. We found Bar Harbor to be a crowded tourist trap so we wandered through some of the smaller fishing village shops and restaurants. Southwest Harbor, Somesville and Northeast Harbor are all charming villages. We highly recommend seeing Asticou Gardens! But most of all, we enjoyed returning to Bass Terre in the evening and watching the sun set."
