  • Delightful cottage

"My husband and I rented this cottage for two weeks, beginning Sept. 1 and during that time, were joined by another adult couple. We were all extremely pleased with this cottage and would not hesitate to rent it again. The location was perfect and even though on a slightly busy street, we were not bothered by any traffic noise and enjoyed the safe, easy walk into town - about 5 minutes. The cottage was tastefully decorated with two very comfortable beds - one King - one Double. The bathroom was small but adequate for our needs. A brand new rear deck gave us a wonderful water view and we enjoyed using the gas grill on several occasions. With an Eastern exposure, we also enjoyed the fabulous sunrises. We were within two minutes of the marina - five minutes from town center - 15 minutes max from the remainder of this delightful town. (walking time) We enjoyed the entire island, as we have in the past. Bar Harbor is an easy 20 minute drive, while other areas such as Northeast Harbor where we took a Ranger led tour to Cranberry Is., is an easy drive. We did not use the free national park shuttle since there is a limited schedule after Sept. 1 but it provides service for those who need it. Many wonderful restaurants can be found in Southwest Harbor in addition to a wonderful grocery store, that is more upscale than most. A larger store can be found in Bar Harbor should you choose. The owner was most congenial and attentive to renter's needs. The kitchen was extremely well stocked - linens galore - personal as well as laundry soap, etc. etc. Our only negative thought is that, living in TX, we can't jump in the car and enjoy this area on the spur of the moment !!!"

  • Beautiful home in a great location

"We had a great week on Mt. Desert Island at the House at Millbrook Falls. The home is warm and beautiful, very expansive and yet comfortable. It was spotless and well maintained. It felt personal and lived in. We had 2 families with 9 people, and didn't feel crowded. The kitchen is extremely well stocked, and there are wonderful games and toys for little kids. It was awesome being able to plug in the iPhone to the house speakers. The falls are amazing, though a bit too rough for swimming when we were there. The tree house is for real; something every kid should experience (rather than the prefab playsets that dot our neighborhood). The whole place is unique and charming. Unfortunately, it was a bit wet during our stay, otherwise the fire pit looked great (they even have marshmallow roasting sticks on the ready). The area is remote, and it requires driving to get anywhere. However, the most amazing carriage trails and hiking are just a 5 minute drive, and there are a few good restaurants and lobster shacks within 10 minutes. The house is centrally located, so it's easy to get to Bar Harbor or Southwest Harbor or the quiet side. Would definitely recommend the bike around Eagle Lake, dinner at Town Hill Bistro, the blueberry pie from Town Hill Market, Sand Beach and the hike just north of there, hiking near Bass Harbor at Ship Harbor Trail, taking a schooner trip at Bar Harbor."

  • Perfect Bar Harbor Location

"My family and I (6 adults) rented this wonderful home for a week. It had all the amenities we could have needed! Close to everything: shopping, dining, the water front, activities in and out of Acadia. The convenient in-town location allowed us to easily walk anywhere and enjoy our Bar Harbor stay without having to deal with peak season traffic & parking. We could venture out in the morning for a kayaking trip, walk home for lunch, then stroll around Bar Harbor in the evening for shopping and dining. Or drive 5 minutes and be in Acadia National Park... Watching for shooting stars atop Cadillac Mountain. The street was quiet, with little traffic which lends to spending time on the deck enjoying the umbrella table. The 2nd floor laundry & included linens/paper products allowed us to pack light. And the multi-floor home was the perfect amount of space for us all to spread out and get comfortable! A fantastic vacation home away from home!"

  • Couldn't ask for a better location!

"This is the second time my family has stayed at the Kennebec House and I would definitely recommend it to other travelers! It is right in the heart of downtown, but it is off a side street so even with the summer crowds it is a quiet, calming place to stay. If you like to be able to walk into downtown Bar Harbor for breakfast or a cup of coffee, easily hop the Island Explorer buses to Acadia, and then return for a great dinner and stroll for ice cream, then the Kennebec House is for you!"
