  • Very clean charming waterfront home that fit our family well. Pet Friendly too!

"We loved all the room to spread out and the large yard for our dog to be able to run and get some exercise too! The house is very clean and well stocked. We found everything we needed. There are two bedrooms upstairs and one bath. Downstairs is another bath, mud room, laundry room, living room/dining and a den. The furniture is comfortable and everything makes you feel right at home in "Maine". The only reason this didn't get a perfect 5 star rating from us was because of the closeness to the slightly busy street and the noise you hear very early in the AM from the lobster boats/fisherman. This is of no fault of the house or owner - and may not bother many. But, for us as light sleepers we had a few rough spots in our sleep. The views from the dining room and deck are amazing - we had a couple gorgeous sunsets similar the picture posted above. We brought high end kayaks and felt ok about leaving them beside the garage. It was great to load the kayak right into the harbor at the edge of the lawn- very convenient. We kayaked once at Echo lake but, mostly just paddled throughout the harbor and explored a little island. There a few restaurants down the street in 'town' and if you cross the harbor you find Thurstons- this place proved to be WAY too busy for us as many were lined up outside - not a good choice if you have a child... Southwest harbor a quick 10 min drive away has many more restaurants. We brought our dog along and he loved laying on the deck - there was a handy hose near the deck which was useful to wash the dog after a swim or a walk along the shore. Do be prepared for bugs - we used bug spray almost every night and I brought a citronella candle which we used as well. The shore is tidal and you can walk out quite a distance - we walked the shore daily and found many "treasures". My son became addicted to finding "sea glass" - I had to explain that the broken fresh glass is just trash and to look for only the frosted kind... let's just say we had a lot of "extra" LOL - but, my one of favorite things to do since being a child and visiting my grandparents in Searsport... If you want to explore Acadia and the Down East - but don't want the hussle bussle of Bar Harbor then this would be a good option for you. We prefer quite nights and peaceful surroundings. Paul, the owner is very accommodating and very quick with any questions/concerns you may have. Thank you for sharing your vacation home with us!"

  • Perfect Location

"I have been vacationing in Seal Harbor for many years and this home has been my favorite so far for location and beauty. It was quiet and serene with the most spectacular view of the ocean. It was a treat to wake up to every morning. The house had everything we could need and was a perfect home base for getting around MDI. Would definitely stay here again."

  • Extreme Comfort and Beauty for an Extreme Winter Escape

"When life starts to feel the weight of complex challenges and extreme changes, sometimes an equally extreme getaway is in order. MDI in its desolate, cold and unforgiving Winter season was just the thing…Just you, the howl and splendor of inconceivably beautiful Nature, and 2 weeks of inspiration, quiet reflection and days filled with as much adventure, hiking and sightseeing as the weather and your stamina will allow. What made this possible, and perfect, was the opportunity to stay in Seal Cove at Windy Hill Farm. I woke each morning there to the sun rising over the pristine landscape, and spent early hours reading and writing stretched out like a house cat on the window seat in the upstairs sitting area. Then we were off to a few hours exploring along the cliffs and shores of Acadia, which we essentially had to ourselves. Our frozen faces always melted into wide smiles as we returned to this well-appointed, radiant heated, newly built farmhouse. And if on any day the Maine cold was a bit too extreme, one step into the master suite’s steam shower guaranteed complete renewal. If we got back early enough we could watch the sun set and full moon rise through the grand windows looking out at Seal Cove Pond glistening with a Winter halo of ice and snow. There are no summer tourist attractions this time of year, and only one or two restaurants open on the island, so dinner "in" is your best option. There are easily accessible grocery stores, and the house’s gourmet kitchen and Wolfe stove will make a chef out of anyone! My partner and I are both very particular about where we stay, and this house is exceptionally well conceived and crafted, clean, and comfortable beyond even the most refined expectations, including furnishings, beds and linens. A stunning two story reclaimed stone fireplace, 12 inch exposed beams, one of my favorite Restoration Hardware chandeliers hanging from the vaulted living room ceiling, soothing wall colors, and multiple TVs and WIFI for those who must stay connected all add to the level of enjoyment this space offers. It is so completely planned as a vacation rental that you will never have to think about anything. All your needs will be satisfied and you may feel more integrated, healthy, and whole than you have in years. Thank you Owners for sharing your home and giving us the chance to know the island in a state of perfect stillness, and ourselves as well. I sometimes dream about being there still. It was unforgettable!"
