  • A Great Time At The Great Harbor Compound

"If you are considering a trip to Maine and Acadia National Park put this property on your list of places to stay! Located on the "quiet side" of the Island, this property is a short distance away from downtown Southwest Harbor. You can walk into town for shopping, pie, or ice cream, or take a stroll to the end of the street to go deep sea fishing or sit down to a Lobster feast. You can ride your bike around town, play tennis nearby, walk to hiking trails, or kayak from the dock. It's all here! Additionally, if you want to check out Acadia National Park you are only a short drive (or bus ride) away from fantastic hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, and swimming options. The property itself is an interesting collection of buildings that are well furnished and contain everything you will need for a great vacation. Our family rented out the entire Compound for the week and found it to be the perfect place from which to stage our adventures or to just hang out at the house(s) and enjoy the beautiful view of Southwest Harbor. The owners, Jon and Nancy, were exceptionally helpful in suggesting fun activities for our entire family to enjoy. We were particularly grateful to have access to multiple kayaks and a canoe to enable everyone in our group to enjoy time exploring on the water. Additionally, Jon and Nancy were very helpful in answering questions about the property and in attending to an issue that came up with one of the TVs in the house. If you are looking for a great place to stay near Acadia National Park we would highly recommend this property."

  • Cozy Cottage on Western Bay

"We had such a great time staying in this cozy cottage. The sunroom overlooking the water was my favorite place to sit. We saw seals playing and the fog rolling in at night. At high tide, you can hear the water from the master bedroom which just lulled us to sleep. The kitchen has everything you need to cook meals if you want. Although there is not a washer and dryer, the kitchen sink is plenty big to rinse out a few items of clothes. Also, there is no wifi or TV which we thought was a bonus and we didn't miss either one at all! There is a radio so we listened to music. Cell service (Verizon) worked great! You can rent kayaks from a local company that will deliver right to the cabin (or bring your own) so we enjoyed the Western Bay waterfront access from the cabin. The cabin is located on a very quiet road and only 7 miles from the main entrance to Acadia National Park, 9 miles to Bar Harbor, and 10 miles to Ellsworth. We did not have any traffic to deal with. Lots of restaurants nearby and an IGA grocery that has everything else you might need. They even sell spirits and Maine's famous blueberry wine. Thank you Pat and Bob for sharing your cabin and we hope we can get to Maine again soon. There are many more hiking trails that we need to do."

  • Perfect Maine Vacation Setting

"Hummingbird is a unique house with a wonderful ocean view and beautifully landscaped, spacious and private grounds. The master bedroom is spectacular, with a million dollar view, its own deck, and an adjacent full bath that can be used by the rest of the house without disturbing those in the master. The main floor bedroom has a comfortable king bed but no view. The terrace level bedrooms are fit for tolerant children only, with dampness the principle issue. Great laundry machines, more than adequate kitchen, and terrific fireplace in the living room with plenty of available wood. The Seal Harbor location is quiet and lovely and not far from the park. We also rented the boat, which is small but powerful and requires an experienced skipper given the ocean location and small size of the boat, which would be crowded with six people and does best in calmer water. But under those conditions, it is a wonderful asset and we thoroughly enjoyed getting a close-up view of the seals in the bay and seeing MDI from the water. Hummingbird has a great caretaker who was very responsive with the couple of minor issues we had. We would definitely return."

  • The Essence of Maine

""Treetops" is a great house, spacious and comfortable with the best equipped kitchen we've ever seen in a vacation rental. Tree top views of the bay and islands are spectacular from the living room, dining room, deck and bedrooms. A private trail to a secluded cove is a true Acadia experience. From the house deck we watched Eagles, Osprey and Deer to the accompaniment of Loons. Located on the less traveled side of Mount Desert Island, the house is still close to the Park, Southwest Harbor and the best home made pies at Town Hill Market. We hope to visit Treetops again."
