  • Excellent house in great location - very clean

"This house was absolutely wonderful. The owner has put quite alot of time and money into this home. It was in the perfect location for us to trek out on our daily hikes throughout Acadia. I am so glad we didn't have to drive through the town of Bar Harbor every day. It was such a nice treat to have a full sized washer and dryer. The kitchen had everything we needed for our meals. However, Bar Harbor is only 4 miles away, so very easy to get to for dinner and shopping. This is a great house if you have children because there is a big back yard and a nice deck. If we go back to Acadia we will definitely rent this house. I researched many various types of lodging and this was not any more expensive. We loved the hiking and scenery of the park. We hiked daily and logged 43 miles in 6 days. Enjoyed the intensity of the rocks and the beauty of the surroundings. The views from the top leave you breathless. (although be prepared for foggy/cloudy days). There were many good reviews in the notebook at the house from prior renters (many repeats). Pizza at Rosalie's is wonderful. Also, the TV in the photo has been replaced with a much larger TV. There are plenty of DVD's and books there also as well as many brochures about the park/island. One note of caution, as we are not used to hardwood floors, take house shoes as the threshholds in between the rooms is a bit raised. It took us a few days to learn to pick up our feet. Love the floors though."

  • Just as described and more!

"Loved how quiet, peaceful, serene and secluded this home was. Though I did not have cell phone service, there was a house phone and internet. There was a binder waiting with all the area attractions. But one of the best lobsters I ever had (that's saying a lot since my family lobstered in Connecticut for years) came from the co-op right in prospect harbor! Loved the drive to bar harbor, about an hour, and Acadia national park was amazing. I got to fish in schoodic, off frasiers point, and the Prospect Harbor dock too. We also ate at the pickled wrinkle, in Birch Harbor, and the food was amazing! We went the week before Memorial Day so there were a lot of things not open. We had to really drive to find things that were open as it is not tourist season. That was not a deal breaker for me, as there were far less people around. If you want off the beaten path, quiet and secluded, this place is for you!"

  • lovely cottage

"We came all the way from Germany to discover Maine and its beautiful landscape. The Loon Cottage was just a perfect place to stay, its very comfortable and provides everything you need. Carol and Horace are so friendly and helpful in giving you great tipps what to do around the area. We were so impressed by Acadia and all the nice spots around Orland...and when we came back to the cottage after a long day, we loved to sit down at the pond, reading or watching sunsets."

  • Awesome Place

"This is the perfect place to stay in Southwest Harbor--even all of Mount Desert Island, we think! Beautiful view of harbor from sunrise to sunset. We watched car after car stop to take pictures of scene we could watch from our deck. Close to excellent restaurants and all kinds of activities--boat tours, hiking, kayaking, whatever you want. The condo is clean, well appointed, and has anything you could need. Owner went out of his way to be helpful. We recommend this condo to anyone, and will, for sure, stay there again, on our next trip to Mount Desert Island."
