  • What a Wonderful, Comfortable Place

"This cottage is in such a beautiful setting you almost hate to leave. And when you do you don't have to go very far. The causeway at the end of the semi-private lane lured us down there morning and evening every day to watch the tide flow in and out of Norwood Cove. The heart of Southwest Harbor with its restaurants and shops is an easy walk away. Beautiful Bass Harbor is just down the road. As mentioned earlier, the house has everything you need from cooking gear to spices to laundry detergent and paper goods. It has good Wi-Fi and cable TV. It has nice towels and sheets and very good beds. The owner's book was full of great suggestions, and we took advantage of their ideas almost every day. The Knollette is not a fancy place, but it is a very accommodating place. We loved it from the moment we first saw it. The four of us Acadia first-timers agree that Southwest Harbor and the Knollette is the place to be on Mount Desert. We will be back."

  • Great place, great location

"We spent a week here in early September. Beginning with the warm welcome , everything was perfect. the view from the deck changes all day long with the tides, gulls and loons serenaded our stay. the cottage is cozy and comfortable and just a short (20minute0 drive to Acadia national park and another ten minutes to Bar Harbor. the hosts are charming and discrete and made sure the wifi worked well as that was important for us. Lamoine is a quaint, quiet little town with a beautiful, wild stony beach and a goat farm that sells fresh cheese. The cottage is off the main road and quiet. all you hear are the waves. the kitchen is well appointed for those, like us, who like to do their own cooking and there is plenty of info for those who want to go out to eat. Having vacationed many times in Down East and Acadia, this was the best rental yet. We didn't get around to kayaking, but for those who like that, this is the perfect venue with easy access to the water."

  • September To Remember

"This was our family's first visit to Maine and Acadia. Renting this house was the best plan we made for the trip. The quiet serenity, the wildlife, and the scenery were all amazing. The house is rustic like a cabin and well equipped like a family home. We spent our mornings watching harbor seals and identifying birds including bald eagles, osprey, loons, cormorants, various woodpeckers (including a pileated pair), kingfishers, and forest songbirds. An eagle landed in a tree right off the deck when were were eating our first breakfast. We were visited by deer and red squirrels. We hated to leave and cannot wait to return. Tern II is an enchanting place to spend a week or more. Definitely bring binoculars, even if you are not an active birder. Also: The restaurants in the small towns around the island are outstanding. Red Sky and Sips in Southwest Harbour are excellent, just to name two."
