  • Simply Perfect!

"The Wayfaring Mermaid Suite is simply is one of the few places I have visited where the actual property is even better than the photos. My mom and I were able to enjoy this beautiful apartment in the most perfect location, along with my 2 year-old daughter. It is clean, well- stocked, comfortable, well appointed...I was able to set up a pack and play in the bedroom, and my mom used the sofa sleeper in the main room. She said it was very comfortable, and she loved the breeze from the open windows! The bedroom bed was just as wonderful as my own bed! Monique and Joe are both so kind, and the attention to detail when building this unit is very impressive! Joe is a highly skilled craftsman, and he handcrafted the entire apartment...gorgeous (I know I am using this word a great deal...but, it's the best word to describe this place). The courtyard, which we didn't get to spend nearly enough time enjoying, was adorable... We were able to walk to the Chart House Restaurant, which is just steps from the apartment; we also took advantage of the ice cream shop at the end of the street, as well! The rocky beach (also steps from the apartment), was the perfect spot for photos! It was a quick two minute drive to the Acadia National Park and just minutes to downtown Bar Harbor. You must visit Cadillac Mountain! I lived in Hawaii for two years (which has always been my favorite place on earth), and I really think Bar Harbor and the park might have moved past the islands:) We took a little drive to Bass Harbor, which was also gorgeous (beautiful sunset by the lighthouse). If you're looking for the perfect place to in the most perfect location...this is exactly where you need to stay! I hope to be able to return and enjoy this property with my husband!"

  • This house is BETTER than described.

"Every member of our family of 5 (mom, dad and kids ages 11, 11, and 14) adored this house. It is beautifully situated and decorated. The kitchen is well equipped. The owner is delightful. We loved the view and the walk to Thurstons. It is easy to get to the market in Southwest Harbor. It is a reasonable (but not short) drive to all of the activities in Acadia. It was spotless, roomy and comfortable."

  • Great summer vacation get away

"We were looking for a 4 week experience on the upper Maine coast. Winter Harbor turned out to be just the ticket. Great biking trail along the coast in the Schoodic Penisula portion of Acadia National Park. Could ride from our residence to the park. Several nice hiking trails there as well. Often times we biked to the hiking trails, then biked home. About a 45 minute drive to Bar Harbor, which we visited twice on week days to avoid the weekend crowds. Close to Bar Harbor is the largest section of the Acadia National Park. We hiked and biked there several times with world class scenery all around. We don't kayak but noticed lots of that as well. Winter Harbor is a quaint town with several good restaurants, and various other shops. Our residence was very nice and exceptionally clean. All the beds were very comfortable. Located on a dead end street with a small park with nice playground equipment across the street for the kids. The kitchen is very small, with only a microwave and a small toaster oven. We adjusted accordingly and this amounted to only a minor inconvenience. There are some mosquitoes in the area, particularly on certain hikes. Nothing major, just bring a little spray for occasional use. Really enjoyed the owners as we shared several “happy hours” together enjoying the beautiful weather. Would highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys the outdoors."

  • Best view in town!!! And direct waterfront access and kayaks!

"Such an amazing house - layout, location, amenities - all of it contributed to our relaxing and fun-filled family vacation. We visited with our 2 kids (3 and 5 years old) and their grandparents. Kids loved running around the back deck/porch that wraps around half the house. Sunset dinners on the deck. Lobster feast with fresh lobsters from the lobster co-op - 2 lobster pots and as many shell crackers and pick you could need. Kayaking among the sleeping lobster boats at sunset with the gorgeous "Stonington light." Just sitting in the living room, facing the harbor, and watching the graceful action on the harbor - meditative. Master suite is spacious and set apart from the other bedrooms which are located on the 2nd floor. Plenty of places in the house for sharing a family meal - in the dining room, the breakfast area, table on the back deck, picnic table on the dock. And, plenty of places to kick back and relax around the house - reclining chairs on the back deck, daybed in the front of the house, comfy living room sofa, additional living room chairs. All times of day are beautiful times of day at this house - don't miss the amazing stars in the night sky! Walk to everything on Main Street including the excellent restaurant Aragosta. Two doors down from the Factory Tavern restaurant which makes it convenient to try to secure a last minute reservation. A few steps up the hill from the Isle Au Haut mailboat ferry to secure your 'first come, first served" ferry tickets in the morning. A short drive to Sand Beach (so much more than your typical beach - be sure to check it out), Barred Island (magical hike through moss carpeted woods to the island - go around low tide (+/- 3 hours), and take the kids to Nervous Nellie's - in addition to making and selling jam, there's entertaining and eccentric art on a life-sized scale. Also, a short drive to sailboat rentals (and other vessels) at Old Quarry Adventures. A short drive to Burnt Cove Market for groceries. We spent 2 weeks in Stonington, the 2nd week in this house - could not have been better. Make sure to take advantage of the kayaks - sunset is the best time of day - no traffic in the harbor, beautiful setting, seal spotting. Plenty of lifejackets provided for adults and kids. We've stayed in many vacation rental houses over the years in different areas of the country for family vacations and this was definitely one of the best!"

Six miles from the mainland, the island is home to a population of 350 year round inhabitants. During tourist season, the population swells to 1,000 or more, as visitors arrive to spend the summer enjoying the joys the island has to offer.

Visitors Choose Swans Island Lodging for Vacation Fun

Although the island has no tourist attractions, bars, or tour buses, visitors can still find plenty of natural amusements. If you enjoy a quiet walk on the beach at sunset or a perfectly cooked lobster dinner, an evening curled up in front of the fireplace with a book, or a bicycle ride around the island, Swans Island lodging may be perfect for you. The delightful Acadia cottages on the island feature homelike amenities, making them a welcome retreat from the every day hustle and bustle of your everyday life.
