  • Unbelievably Beautiful!

"I don't know where to start. This home, from its setting in the Maine woods, surrounded on three sides by water, to its beautiful furnishings - most imported Italian antiques from Andrea's homeland in Italy - is absolutely amazing. The owners have thought of everything to see to their guests' comfort. The home is beautifully furnished and incredibly clean. Yet the owners have also managed to make it homey and comfortable, as well. You can tell it is their dream home because everything has been so carefully planned and thought-out. The location is great. Ten minutes from Ellsworth and 30 mins to Bar Harbor and Acadia, yet you feel like you are miles away from the hustle and bustle. We were busy sightseeing every day, but honestly I wish we had had more time just to spend a day or two relaxing at this beautiful property. We loved having our coffee in the morning in the dining/living area and watching the rainbows dance around the room from the morning sun shining through the crystal chandelier. We loved finishing our day watching the sunset from the comfortable bench the owners have placed at the edge of the woods looking out over the cove. Perfect place to share a bottle of wine while watching the sun set over the cove. The rooms are all large, open, and light-filled. Huge windows throughout the house let in the sunlight and the woods, with trees swaying and leaves fluttering in the easy sea breeze, and surrounding water, become a part of the living area. My husband and I loved laying in bed at night and looking out at the silhouettes of the woods and the stars sparkling in the night sky. It seems every detail has been taken care of. The owners are wonderful, personable, and accommodating to worth with. I almost feel like I know them now. This is truly one of the most beautiful places I have ever had the pleasure to visit. If you want to experience the best of all worlds, the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor and surrounding towns, exploring Acadia, the inspiring Maine woods, all on the edge of the water, with all the comforts - and more - of home, this is the place you do not want to miss. My only mistake was not booking it for a longer period of time. I cannot wait to return. With many thanks to Andrea and Erika for sharing their dream home with us, I look forward to returning again in the future for a longer stay. Kindest regards to them, and assurances to other vacation seekers that you will absolutely fall in love with everything about this home."

  • We want to go back to Squid Cove!

"We have been coming to Mount Desert Island and renting houses for more than 20 years. In this time, we have stayed in at least 8 different homes. The family voted and decided that the camp on Squid Cover is our favorite spot on the island. It is one of the most beautiful and scenic spots you will ever find. The cabins are located in a very serene spot down a very long drive with no neighbors in site. We like to check out the seals in the cove everyday while they are sleeping or playing on the rocks. You are likely to see Loons and lots of other water fowl. There are great activities for the kids if they like to kayak or swim (although the water can be really cold!). The location is also excellent for getting around the island - - for hikes or getting into Bah Harbah. The cottages are clean and well maintained."

  • First trip to Maine!

"My husband and I wanted a peaceful escape away from noise, a lot of traffic and people. BUT, we wanted to be a reasonable driving distance to get to the places we wanted to be. The oceanfront cottage was perfect for this. It's small, but just the right size for 2 people, quaint and in a very quiet area. Right on the water with plenty of activity to watch. Or, just sit quietly, watch a seal swim by, the birds fish, lobster boats work there floats, kayakers enjoying their time, etc. I personally enjoyed walking the beach and looking for interesting objects or critters stuck in the rocky pools after the tide went out. We could get to Bar Harbor within 40 minutes and then on to Acadia which is a stunning area. Our favorite day was going to Schoodic Point and visiting the mainland portion of Acadia. Very few people there, much quieter and stunning views and sunset from Schoodic Point. Then don't miss the Seafood Stew at the Winkled Pickle. We found the Lobster rolls in Maine over priced in the heavily traveled areas but once out of Bar Harbor, Camden and other well traveled sites prices were more reasonable for most everything. From our cottage we were able to enjoy good food, plenty of shopping, Beautiful sites everywhere and lots and lots to do OR...do nothing. We enjoyed that to and the cottage, lawn and beach offered that. Dick and Ivy were rarely seen and very quiet. We did not even know they were around most of the time. We found them to be excellent hosts, making sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The neighbor right next door was also nice and stopped by to say hi. We would recommend the cottage for couples who don't have a large budget as it was extremely reasonable for the accommodations we got. Maine is a beautiful place both inland and on the coast and we loved our time there."

  • Lake and National Park vacation combined

"We (2 parents & 2 daughters in their early 20's) had a fantastic time staying at this home for a week to combine a lake vacation of kayaking/canoeing/blueberry picking with daily trips to Acadia National Park/Bar Harbor (about 55 minute drive). Green Lake is wonderfully VERY quiet. House is right on the lake with a dock and 12 private wooded acres. You don't hear or see anyone else. Kitchen and bathrooms were very well equipped and supplied and house has TV/DVD. Borderline cellphone/internet access (worked in certain areas in & around house) due to isolated vacation area. Boat rental company on the lake a few miles away delivered rented kayaks & canoe for the week. Nearest town, Ellsworth, about 20 minutes drive, is on the way to Bar Harbor, so we passed through it each day and could stop for supplies and once or twice stopped there for pleasant restaurants. (Of course, Bar Harbor has MANY restaurants/shops, and we would often have dinner on the way home from a day at Acadia). For larger groups, owner might want to consider a larger water heater. The house works well and the owner was very personable and accommodating. -A very enjoyable vacation, with most days busy at Acadia/Bar Harbor and restful time on/at the lake in mornings or evenings and one or two days."

Acadia Travel Tips

Rocky Coastlines Abound by Acadia Vacation Rentals

Land and sea come together on the rocky coastline of Maine. Spend a week in summer enjoying the sights and sounds at Acadia vacation rentals. A spacious house with the ideal view of Bar Harbor, Bass Harbor or Somes Sound can be yours. You can find the perfect vacation rental with VRBO for your family reunion or family vacation. Acadia rentals offer you the chance to prepare your own fresh lobster dinners on your private deck or watch the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean while having your breakfast. There are plenty of amenities to make your stay more enjoyable, such as comfortable beds, large living areas and room to relax indoors or out.

Acadia National Park is Minutes Away From Acadia Lodging

You and your family can visit Acadia National Park to see the 54 square miles of Mount Desert Island. This fantastic island is the largest rock-based island in the Atlantic Ocean region. These rounded domes have been around for centuries with summits that are clustered with pine, spruce and fir trees as well as a profound profusion of wildflowers. Bird-lovers will find a large variety of birds within the park’s boundaries so do not forget to bring your binoculars. Guests of Acadia rentals can visit the park throughout the year with the exception of a two-mile section along the ocean during the winter.

With a fully equipped kitchen, you will be able to pack a picnic lunch so that you can hike some of the 125 miles of trails. If you are so inclined, there are horse-drawn carriage rides that are available from mid-June to early October. Otherwise, you can indulge your passion for fresh sea air by biking or taking a walking tour. Park rangers are on-hand from late spring to early fall to provide information on the area. After a delicious dinner, bring the family to a campfire program where you could learn about marine life, history or wildlife. You can even take a cruise around Frenchman Bay and the Cranberry Islands to get a great perspective from the water. A seven-day pass is the perfect accompaniment to your wonderful Acadia lodging reservation.

Acadia Travel Means Shopping and Restaurants

What could be better than a fresh lobster dinner while you are on vacation in Maine? You may decide you do not want to cook this feast yourself but dine out at one of the many restaurants in the area. There will be many that fit anyone’s budget and they do not all serve seafood. The restaurants in the Down East and Acadia region feature fresh ingredients with simple to extravagant cuisine. If you tire of seafood, you can find pasta, pizza, steak, and lighter fare such as salads and soup. One of the most popular and well-known restaurants in the area is the Atlantic Brewing Company in Bar Harbor. The estate is also located in Bar Harbor so you can see how the beer there is made.

Shopping is another leisure activity that can be enjoyed while staying in Acadia vacation rentals. Whether you are looking for a gift or want a memento of your time together in this amazing place, you can find it. If you have come away without the proper clothing or just want something new for your wardrobe, visit the Black Sheep Trading Company. This great store has hand-woven sweaters, moccasins, slippers or sheepskin items. If you want to indulge in a sweet confection to top your morning English muffin, visit Nervous Nellie’s Jams and Jellies. Maine crafts are abundant at Maine-ly Made Gifts where you can bring home items that remind you of the sea. Bookstores, artisans and artists all display their wares in the Acadia area.
