  • A Great Find

"This was our fifth year renting the Stronghold and it was fabulous again this year. The location is perfect and there is nothing you would want that isn't provided at the house. We love that you can walk to downtown which includes a few shops and restaurants. We love watching the process of lobstering that takes place all around us, and the surprise appearance of a schooner or two in the back yard is really a treat. Hope to stay there again next year."

  • Peace and paradise

"Nous avons passé une semaine fantastique. Ce cottage est absolument parfait. Le lieu, la décoration, les activités et le design du bâtiment... Tout est très bien agencé. Le parc Acadia est juste à côté et la petite ville de Ellsworth est très sympathique avec de petits magasins. Cet endroit et ce cottage sont à recommandé. We had a fantastic week. This cottage is absolutely perfect. The location, decor, activities and the building design... Everything is very well arrange. Acadia park is right around the corner and the small town of Ellsworth is very nice with a lot of boutique / small stores. This place and this cottage must be recommended."

  • Awesome cabin, awesome surroundings! Great for a family!!

"Just completed my third stay at this same location, and words cannot describe how happy I am to have found this place! To start, the location is perfect. Being in Seal Cove, on the western coast of Mount Desert Island, it is far less congested and hectic than the Bar Harbor area. The area is extremely quiet and gives you a great sense of seclusion. The cabin is perched just uphill from Seal Cove, meaning you are just a short walk from the water. This is a tidal cove, so at high tide you can enjoy incredible kayaking (kayaks available from property owners) and at low tide you can walk completely across! My kids (14 and 11) really enjoyed walking through the cove at low tide, as there is a LOT of sea life to find (mussels, clams, crabs, etc). If you enjoy kayaking, or have ever wanted to try it, this location is perfect. The back end of the cove (by the cabin) is wide and shallow and ALWAYS calm. The narrow cove opens up into a bay at the sea, and the views are breathtaking!! As for the cabin itself, it is exactly as the owners describe. It has been kept in immaculate condition. It is not like other rental properties that feel "generic" or "sterile". When you walk into this cabin, it feels like stepping into your own place - like home! It is warm and inviting and incredibly cozy! The tap water in the cabin is better than ANY bottled water you can get. There are endless bookshelves filled with reading material and games for the whole family. Lots and lots of comforters and blankets for those chilly Maine nights. The owners of the cabin live nearby (on the same 6 acre property) and are the nicest people you will ever wish to meet. They are warm and hospitable and kind and welcoming. You could not ask for better hosts!!! In conclusion, I would say that this cabin is ideal for a family with kids. Being so close to Acadia, while staying out of the craziness of Bar Harbor, is great. Keep in mind there is no television and no internet service, which I find to be a huge blessing! If you want to spend some time really reconnecting with your family, you will not find a better place. I could not recommend this cabin more highly than by saying I will NEVER, EVER stay anywhere else on Mount Desert Island!!"

  • Great place close to downtown

"We stayed three days/ nights at DeeDee place this past July and I wish we could have stayed three weeks. First of all her place is plenty big for our family of five, two teenagers and an 11 yr old. The house has three large bd rooms with two large bathrooms. The property is also close enough to Bar Harbor downtown that we could be there in less than 10 min walking. DeeDee is great with advice on local attractions and restaurants. Again, this is a great place to stay when visiting Bar Harbor."

Acadia Travel Tips

Rocky Coastlines Abound by Acadia Vacation Rentals

Land and sea come together on the rocky coastline of Maine. Spend a week in summer enjoying the sights and sounds at Acadia vacation rentals. A spacious house with the ideal view of Bar Harbor, Bass Harbor or Somes Sound can be yours. You can find the perfect vacation rental with VRBO for your family reunion or family vacation. Acadia rentals offer you the chance to prepare your own fresh lobster dinners on your private deck or watch the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean while having your breakfast. There are plenty of amenities to make your stay more enjoyable, such as comfortable beds, large living areas and room to relax indoors or out.

Acadia National Park is Minutes Away From Acadia Lodging

You and your family can visit Acadia National Park to see the 54 square miles of Mount Desert Island. This fantastic island is the largest rock-based island in the Atlantic Ocean region. These rounded domes have been around for centuries with summits that are clustered with pine, spruce and fir trees as well as a profound profusion of wildflowers. Bird-lovers will find a large variety of birds within the park’s boundaries so do not forget to bring your binoculars. Guests of Acadia rentals can visit the park throughout the year with the exception of a two-mile section along the ocean during the winter.

With a fully equipped kitchen, you will be able to pack a picnic lunch so that you can hike some of the 125 miles of trails. If you are so inclined, there are horse-drawn carriage rides that are available from mid-June to early October. Otherwise, you can indulge your passion for fresh sea air by biking or taking a walking tour. Park rangers are on-hand from late spring to early fall to provide information on the area. After a delicious dinner, bring the family to a campfire program where you could learn about marine life, history or wildlife. You can even take a cruise around Frenchman Bay and the Cranberry Islands to get a great perspective from the water. A seven-day pass is the perfect accompaniment to your wonderful Acadia lodging reservation.

Acadia Travel Means Shopping and Restaurants

What could be better than a fresh lobster dinner while you are on vacation in Maine? You may decide you do not want to cook this feast yourself but dine out at one of the many restaurants in the area. There will be many that fit anyone’s budget and they do not all serve seafood. The restaurants in the Down East and Acadia region feature fresh ingredients with simple to extravagant cuisine. If you tire of seafood, you can find pasta, pizza, steak, and lighter fare such as salads and soup. One of the most popular and well-known restaurants in the area is the Atlantic Brewing Company in Bar Harbor. The estate is also located in Bar Harbor so you can see how the beer there is made.

Shopping is another leisure activity that can be enjoyed while staying in Acadia vacation rentals. Whether you are looking for a gift or want a memento of your time together in this amazing place, you can find it. If you have come away without the proper clothing or just want something new for your wardrobe, visit the Black Sheep Trading Company. This great store has hand-woven sweaters, moccasins, slippers or sheepskin items. If you want to indulge in a sweet confection to top your morning English muffin, visit Nervous Nellie’s Jams and Jellies. Maine crafts are abundant at Maine-ly Made Gifts where you can bring home items that remind you of the sea. Bookstores, artisans and artists all display their wares in the Acadia area.
