  • What a gem!

"We couldn't have asked for a better place. Diana was a lovely hostess. The cabin was modern, clean, and perfectly situated at the lake shore. We swam every day and made use of the kayak and canoe. Our son loved jumping off our very own floating dock. What a trip and what memories!"

  • Just amazing in every way!

"This was our first time renting this amazing property, and our first visit to Stonington. It was the most wonderful vacation we have had in a long, long time. We have described it as living in a postcard for a week! We were a group of 7, ranging in age from 15 to 83. It is not easy to find a spot where such a broad age range is happy - but this is it. Every member of our party had a wonderful time - hiking, fishing, collecting shells, reading, watching lobster boats, sailboats and windjammers cruise by the house - just wonderful. The house was well equipped with books and games. The kitchen was big and homey, with lots of pots and pans, dishes - everything we needed to feel comfortable and at home. The views from inside and outside were amazing. I did not step out of the house 1 time the whole week without saying "This is just so gorgeous!". The other area I would be remiss in not mentioning is the privacy at this home. You are on a point, with no other houses in site. It is peaceful, beautiful and private as can be. Definitely gem tucked away by the sea. Wonderful!"

  • Perfect in every way for our visit to Acadia National Park

"Virginia, My wife and I never formally thanked you for our stay back in October. We had a great time, and loved staying on the quieter side of the island. Yes we were there just as the Fed closed down, but that did not impede our travel plans in the least. As a matter of fact if may have made them better. My wife and I had planned on biking the carriage trails and hiking in the park, so those flimsy barricades were no match for our trusty 2 wheels and legs. We actually felt like we had the park to ourselves (more or less). The only negative was there were no restrooms open….but that’s what the woods are for anyway…right! And we didn’t get to have popovers at the Jordan Pond house. But we did eat our lunch one day right on the pond, and the next day we ate on the lawn of the restaurant. We did do some hiking, but did not get to climb Cadillac Mountain, as it was not easy to get to from the perimeter of the park without a car. But everything else we came to do we were able to do. Lots of good restaurants in the area. We did eat at a lobster pound and had a lobster roll another day. My wife and I are not big lobster eaters, so that was more of a mission than a passion, but now we can say we did it. We did stumble upon a unique place called the Common Grounds Café. Not sure if you are familiar with it, but it is out by the seawall. It is more of a soup kitchen for the poor where visitors make donations for a modest breakfast (which did include popovers) and the proceeds feed locals during the winter months. There were some characters there and that experience will give us stories to tell for years to come. Your place is amazing! I want to affirm you for the outstanding job you did in remodeling the barn into such a lovely cozy hideaway. The use of space was superb. The finish out was first class. And the location and relaxation factor were out of this world! We could have easily stayed for two weeks and not gotten tired of Acadia, and the enjoyment of hanging around your cottage. We stay at a lot of VRBO properties and yours is definitely one of the nicest and coolest places we have stayed. I’m sorry we did not get to meet you, but by the way your place looks I can tell you are an outstanding individual. Peace and Blessings as we move into the holidays. And of course Merry Christmas!"

  • Dream Vacation

"We stayed at Reath's rock from 14 June to 21 June. We had never been to Maine before or Thurston's for lobster. We were with my son and his wife and two grandsons. This was definitely the best vacation we have had in years. Your place was not a rental, but a home. Thank you so much for such a beautiful place to rest relax and teach my two grandsons how to play cribbage, as they wore me out on all the trails we hiked. What a blessing to have such a place, your grandparents in heaven must be proud"

Acadia Travel Tips

Rocky Coastlines Abound by Acadia Vacation Rentals

Land and sea come together on the rocky coastline of Maine. Spend a week in summer enjoying the sights and sounds at Acadia vacation rentals. A spacious house with the ideal view of Bar Harbor, Bass Harbor or Somes Sound can be yours. You can find the perfect vacation rental with VRBO for your family reunion or family vacation. Acadia rentals offer you the chance to prepare your own fresh lobster dinners on your private deck or watch the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean while having your breakfast. There are plenty of amenities to make your stay more enjoyable, such as comfortable beds, large living areas and room to relax indoors or out.

Acadia National Park is Minutes Away From Acadia Lodging

You and your family can visit Acadia National Park to see the 54 square miles of Mount Desert Island. This fantastic island is the largest rock-based island in the Atlantic Ocean region. These rounded domes have been around for centuries with summits that are clustered with pine, spruce and fir trees as well as a profound profusion of wildflowers. Bird-lovers will find a large variety of birds within the park’s boundaries so do not forget to bring your binoculars. Guests of Acadia rentals can visit the park throughout the year with the exception of a two-mile section along the ocean during the winter.

With a fully equipped kitchen, you will be able to pack a picnic lunch so that you can hike some of the 125 miles of trails. If you are so inclined, there are horse-drawn carriage rides that are available from mid-June to early October. Otherwise, you can indulge your passion for fresh sea air by biking or taking a walking tour. Park rangers are on-hand from late spring to early fall to provide information on the area. After a delicious dinner, bring the family to a campfire program where you could learn about marine life, history or wildlife. You can even take a cruise around Frenchman Bay and the Cranberry Islands to get a great perspective from the water. A seven-day pass is the perfect accompaniment to your wonderful Acadia lodging reservation.

Acadia Travel Means Shopping and Restaurants

What could be better than a fresh lobster dinner while you are on vacation in Maine? You may decide you do not want to cook this feast yourself but dine out at one of the many restaurants in the area. There will be many that fit anyone’s budget and they do not all serve seafood. The restaurants in the Down East and Acadia region feature fresh ingredients with simple to extravagant cuisine. If you tire of seafood, you can find pasta, pizza, steak, and lighter fare such as salads and soup. One of the most popular and well-known restaurants in the area is the Atlantic Brewing Company in Bar Harbor. The estate is also located in Bar Harbor so you can see how the beer there is made.

Shopping is another leisure activity that can be enjoyed while staying in Acadia vacation rentals. Whether you are looking for a gift or want a memento of your time together in this amazing place, you can find it. If you have come away without the proper clothing or just want something new for your wardrobe, visit the Black Sheep Trading Company. This great store has hand-woven sweaters, moccasins, slippers or sheepskin items. If you want to indulge in a sweet confection to top your morning English muffin, visit Nervous Nellie’s Jams and Jellies. Maine crafts are abundant at Maine-ly Made Gifts where you can bring home items that remind you of the sea. Bookstores, artisans and artists all display their wares in the Acadia area.
